I'd like to hear the Paul Harvey rest of the story. Can't fathom that only a bounced check resulted in a felony. RR

105, Really nice! Good mass in both antlers and body. Were you able to age him via looking at his teeth? RR

260 vs 7mm-08
Red Rabbit replied to firstcoueswas80's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
How about the Remington 700 Mountain LSS in 7mm-08? Gun weighs only 4 oz more than the model 7, doesn't have a Tupperware stock, and has 2" more barrel length (50 fps faster and less muzzle blast). Better looking and handles nice. 7-08 has a greater selection of factory ammo and more bullet choices to handload. Better would be in 270 to chase coues and dream of Jack OC. Handload him reduced loads for practice or shoot Remington's Managed Recoil ammo. The 7-08 w/ 140's would give about 15 ft-lbs of recoil and the 270 w/ 130's would give 18 ft-lbs in the 700 Mtn LSS. Tommy, Sounds like you and your sons have good time hunting together. Congrats to Tito on his buck. Is his right eye a little swollen? Hope you and Gabe also had good fortune. RR

Scott, Congrats on a successful hunt under some windy conditions. Great pics as usual. Good luck hunting monsters in December. Doug~RR

Turkey-unit 6B second hunt Javelina-unit 23 rifle Aside from the muzz hunt, we noticed that there are no javelina hunts in unit 8 for archery or rifle. Wonder why. RR

Chris, Really glad you got that buck after scouting him up. A definite reward. Was nice to meet you and Larry, and thanks for the dinner of antelope steaks and dutch oven cherry cobbler. How did the last morning's hunt go? Doug~RR

Good luck on your hunt. I use the no-gut method of field dressing. You can get all of the meat without having to pull guts and lungs, unless you want the heart and liver. Here's a link that shoes that method. I usually skin off the entire top side so there is no hide on th equarters. Do one side first and then roll it over. The tenderloins are located in front of the pelvic girdle and up under the last few floating ribs. You can reach in, push the guts away, and pull/carefully cut them out. http://huntingnut.com/index.php?name=News&...=article&sid=27 There is no gland that needs removing first. The tarsal gland on the inside of the rear hocks will be removed when you skin the knee joints to break/saw the legs there. Doug~RR

I will be in 23 the 4-8th. Don't exactly know where I'll be hunting, as I will look over a couple of new spots Friday. I'll be driving a Chevy regular cab with shell, both pewter/gold in color. Blue rear license plate and camo BOWHNTR plate up front. Just me and Rica, my GWP birddog. Good luck to you guys. Doug~RR

If the 11" includes the four circumference measurements on each antler, you did get a short spike. RR

Riley, Good job an a nice muley! RR

Scott, I enjoyed the hunt with you, Kevin and Rich. Sorry about the shattering death of a good beer . Are you on light duty now? I was somewhat surprized that the 223 WSSM did the job at 400 yards and especially that the TSX exited. Will you be ready for the Nov hunt? I recall its only a short? 3 miles to pack out. I do not know how long the other hunters in the group wil stay. I think Russ will only be able to hunt the weekend, and Steve? I plan on the whole week, if you have a few day off. Doug~RR

Congrats Audra. Your smile tells it all. RR

Chris, Great story about your fun hunt. Congrats to you and Andy. Doug~RR

Darren, Congratulations on your coues with mass. Do you think the blood spoiled the "sheets" and they won't use that bed for a while? RR

To those of you who made the dinner, guess you noticed that Scott, Rich, Kevin and I were absent. Kevin shot a nice 3 point at sunset, and after a 3 hour hike out, we were back at camp at 10 pm. Hope the get together was good and you feasted well. Doug~RR -

Stan, How did the junior cow hunt with your son go? RR -
This is a nice comparison of 150 grain bullets in 30 caliber. I will be carrying the 150 TSX on two coues hunts this fall; so if hunter's luck smiles, I can give a report. I already know the Nosler Accubond and Swift Scirocco are great choices. http://www.gunsandhunting.com/bulletshootout.html RR

Carp that might make you crap....
Red Rabbit replied to Becker's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Looks like an older, block-faced, pot-bellied carp. Hope you see him in daylight during archery season. RR -
Don't forget to purchase the deer license and habitat stamp to accompany your carcass tag. You can do it online by clicking the black bear icon in the upper left corner of the NM G&F web site. www.wildlife.state.nm.us RR

I'm gonna aim for the top of the heart.............of that 125 incher with stickers and corkscrew droppers. Wouldn't that be nice to see in the crosshairs? But realistically, anything over 100" will be seriously considered as wall and BBQ enhancement. RR

Here are the pics of his buck and preseason cam photo. I'll let him tell the story.

This is info Dick King posted on Bowsite: Norm Pint was killed in a roll over accident October 22 around 6AM between Heber and Forest Lakes on his way to help on a hunt for his grandson. He was on his way to meet his son and grandson for a hunt. Norm has served on the ABA board from its inception 26 years ago, has been a Game and Fish instructor for many years teaching bowhunting to the Show Low/ Pinetop community. He will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him, he was a fine man with dedication that very few people have. Ironically, Norm drew a Sheep tag this year after 33 years of applying. He was so excited about that! I hope that was on his mind while he was on his way to his hunt today. God Bless his soul! If you are the type to pray, remember Norm and his family in your prayers. The days ahead will not be easy for them or any of us that were touched by Norms quite manner and dedication to bow hunting in Arizona. Services will be at Saint Rita?s Catholic Church Show Low, AZ. Saturday at 1:00 PM. October 29th, 2005

I met Norm through the ABA. Nice guy and enthusiastic about archery. He did a lot for the ABA and remember his arial shoots and his outhouse shot at the smoker when the Bowhunter Happening was at Mormon Lake. He sent me a Hyperhot cal when they first came out. Sad to hear of his death and he will be missed by many. RR
