Arizona Blue Grouse 2017
Red Rabbit replied to Couzer's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Those grouse can scare your bejeebers when they take off close. -
I have a 6.5 WSM. I use 270WSM brass and turn the necks after resizing. Dies are Redding 6.5mm/300WSM. I would think that one would likely not see much difference between the WSM and SAUM variants. Has you friend looked into a 6.5 PRC ?

With the onset of summer rains, lightning, and clouds, it was time to get out shooting. This past weekend I met up with a couple of friends and we traversed northern Arizona to shoot across various canyons. Had the Nikon in hand, but suspect the Winchester will get some trigger time soon with elk and whitetail tags for this fall. Aim small ;-)

Most of my landscape shots are at ISO 64 for the most dynamic range, aperture priority, usually f/8 for best sharpness and good depth of field, use of tripod. If there are close grasses or flowers that may be moving in the wind, I can increase the ISO in order to get a faster shutter speed. For the canyon shots in this series, focusing about 1/3 of the way into the scene works. With close flowers and distant mountains together, I usually focus on the flowers and then take another shot focused far, and then blend/stack the two (or often more) so it is sharp front to back. Sometimes just a single shot at f/16 will work when using a wide angle lens to give enough depth of field.

What rifle caliber is most common for coues deer hunting in AZ?
Red Rabbit replied to THREEDFLYER's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
My current rifle for Coues is a Model 70 Supergrade in 6.5 WSM. In the years past, I have used 700 BDL in 280 Rem, M70 Featherweight in 270 Win, Browning Stainless stalker in 7mm Rem Mag, HS Precision in 300 WSM, Kimber Classic in 6.5 Creedmoor, Rem Mountain LSS in 260 Rem. A light rifle is nice for humping up the mountains, but a steady rest system is essential imo. -

I have one of the original Double Bull Matrix blinds (before Primos took over) that I bought from Bull basin Archery. Predator Deception camo in cotton/poly fabric. I set it up once in my driveway, but never took it afield to hunt. It has been sitting unused in my spare bedroom. I am asking $300. Pick up in Flagstaff. Thanks. SOLD

The 2018 leftover list is now up on G&F website.

Stan, I wonder if some application services applied their NR hunters to 36C and hence filled the NR cap. have fun in December with the "kids". -

Still have the danger of fire. https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/coconino/news-events/?cid=FSEPRD586555 Firefighters busy across the Coconino NF FLAGSTAFF, Ariz., July 9, 2018, For Immediate Release — Firefighters across all three districts of the Coconino National Forest have chased more than 40 lightning strikes since Friday. The multiple lightning strikes from monsoon rains since Friday have resulted in 35 named fire across the forest. The largest was a fully suppressed fire Saturday near the Painted Desert, the 100-acre Black Fire on state land adjacent to the forest. Currently two fires are burning, the first is the 30-acre Reese Fire north of the San Francisco Peaks which has multiple resources and aircraft conducting suppression operations. The second, the 38-acre Wood Fire on the south rim of Woods Canyon which has little activity and smoke because of rain over the fire. The thunderstorm activity on the Wood Fire has caused firefighters to keep the fire in monitor status ensuring firefighter safety. Motorists in the area of Interstate 17, U.S. Highway 180 and U.S. Highway 89 should be cautious and aware of smoke, low flying aircraft, as well as first responder traffic.

About 1/2" over the last 3 days at the Flag airport. Maybe1/10 just a few miles south here in Kachina Village. Depends on what cloud you're under. This may be the closest to Parks. https://www.wrh.noaa.gov/mesowest/timeseries.php?sid=QGBA3&table=1&banner=off

Congrats on a nice tag. Duwayne Adams has a book and video about hunting the Kaibab that you might consider. http://www.azbiggamehunting.com/

The SWFA 3-9HD is on sale for Independence Day. Reticle would be good on low power too as it is a little thicker than the 3-15, good tracking, enough magnification for your distances. https://swfa.com/swfa-ss-hd-3-9x42-tactical-30mm-riflescope.html

If you could only go down 0.5mil, I bet it is the zero stop like Casey mentioned. Did you push in the button on the elevation dial when trying to go lower?

Two turkeys, or two javelina

$45 dollar hit too. Either 12AW late or 34A December. I had 5 BP.
