Enjoy your day. HBD to ya!

Did you see that he tried to order a 10x, but shipping cost was in error? Hopefully he does get one and gives an honest review. Larry probably has a wealth of info, but his online presentation on a scale of 1 to 10 is a negative number.

Tract Optics is a new optics company that I read about on another hunting forum - 24hourCampfire. There have been a few threads in their optics forum about the binos and riflescopes. If you frequent 24hr, you are familiar with the personalities of the various posters. Anyway, Tract is offering a $100 discount on their topline Toric optics through Sept 27. https://www.tractoptics.com/ For a new rifle, I bit on a new 3-15x scope, so I will see firsthand next week. I have not seen any of their products before. The Toric line is supposed to be built in Japan and is only offered direct- no stores. disclaimer- I am not associated with Tract in any way and am just passing along a potential deal to you on CWT.

have you checked gunbroker.com for a magazine?

Congrats. It is always a surprise to see the antelope in the pines as one expects them in the wide open.

another option might be to mail it USPS to yourself at your relative's address. I did this when I went to AK. Check with the USPS/PO if the regs have changed. "If you plan on hunting outside of your state, you may mail your certified firearm to yourself. The package must be: Addressed to the owner. Include the “in the care of” endorsement immediately preceding the name of whoever will hold your weapon until you arrive. For added security, you can add delivery confirmation. Be opened by the rifle or shotgun owner only."

About 80 today, but cooling next week into the upper 60s. Full moon on the 16th. The elk are still in the woods though. http://www.solunarforecast.com/solunarcalendar.aspx

Barrel cleaning how often and accuracy
Red Rabbit replied to Paladin529's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I would say one might clean when they notice groups opening. Most probably do not shoot a hunting rifle enough rounds (unfortunately), or have a rifle accurate enough to notice, so a clean and oil at the end of the season would suffice. I usually shoot at least 3 foulers after cleaning. http://www.accurateshooter.com/technical-articles/barrel-cleaning-debate/ -
Anthony, congrats on having a memorable hunt with your son and friends.

https://www.tractoptics.com/products/riflescopes/toric-3-15x42-bdc In addition to a BDC reticle, this scope has turrets and zero stop, but is second focal plane. A new company and I have not seen any in-depth tracking tests yet, but it has piqued my curiosity. Not available in stores, but direct from Tract or on Amazon.

Congrats on a nice buck with great length and mass up top

You might talk with Amanda about the Becoming an Outdoors Woman program which she helps with. Don't put pressure on yourself to need to be successful in wrapping your tag every hunt. Smell the roses. Grab a camera and "hunt" during the off season- a great way to learn terrain, habits, and stalking close. Maybe take the glassing class with Duwayne Adams. http://www.azbiggamehunting.com/

Have a fun hunt. Maybe look at this and the rest of Grimmett's site if you have the chance. http://www.pronghornguideservice.com/field-judging.html

What coues caliber to build off a Remington 700 Long Action
Red Rabbit replied to CouesPursuit's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Being a long action and wanting less recoil, I would suggest the 25-06. The 280AI would be right on the heels of your 7RM. The 6.5 CM would be better served in a short action. If you wanted to go 6.5CM, I would trade or sell the 30-06 to get a short action to build on. This might be the preferred route to get a rifle the whole family would enjoy. If you don't mind plastic, just getting an accurate Tikka T3x could be a no build plan. To better fit the wife and kids, maybe the T3x Compact with the shorter 12.5" LOP -
You might measure the bullet run-out on loaded cartridges, sort, and choose those with 0.002" or less

Powder choices for variety of weather
Red Rabbit replied to border hunter's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
You might also try Ramshot Hunter and Magnum depending upon bullet weight. -
They are all over to Elden Hills, Dry Lake, Walnut Canyon. I would suggest though for bowhunting in cooler temps to be on top closer to the edge of the Mogollon Rim or in a feeder draw if in 8, 6b, 6a

Glassing Tips- What works best for you? Unit 8 Hunt
Red Rabbit replied to mrodri30's topic in Elk Hunting
What hunt does your son have? -
I would run with the 26 Nosler. Nosler brass and ammo is readily available from what I have seen at Sportsmans Whorehouse. With you only wanting to shoot a limited number of rounds each year, trying the factory ammo first may be a good option if it shoots well. With the suggested LR practice, the reloading route would be better, imo. Nosler has reload data on their website. I did see a post on another forum where a person knew of 3 different 26 Noslers that were harder to group as max load/pressure was approached. I had Kirby Allen build my 6.5WSM. I am using Redding dies to neck down 270WSM brass and then turning the neck. Lee has 6.5/300WSM dies available too. I am at 3200fps with 130 grain bullets in a 26" barrel.

Elk note #34 in the elk regs "34. The elk hunting season in Unit 11M is closed within ¼ mile of an occupied residence or building within the Flagstaff corporate limits."
