Anthony, I would certainly get Tony Grimmett's video "Size is Everything"

Follow the rain patterns on radar and noaa. Scout for where the cows are. A bull may be 5-20 miles from where you see him in summer to where his cows are come rut. Get some diaphragm calls and a good calling video to practice with. I have Elknuts old video "Bugling Bulls and Beyond". An estrus call like Norm Pint's (rip) is good. A hoochie mama is good for scaring the elk away, imo.

April Fools Day turned out to be a good day. 1) Arizona Game & Fish charged my card for an elk tag. 2) ATF charged me $200 in the start of the suppressor process. 3) I got my rifle back form the local gunsmith. I have a Winchester Model 70 Super Grade that I had rebarrelled rot a 6.5WSM several years ago, but is was not shooting up to standards with 5-shot groups in the range of 1-1.5" So I had Evan put on a Shilen Select Match SS #3 contour in 1-8 twist, 26", still chambered in 6.5 WSM. Threaded and capped for a suppressor. Graphite black Cerakote. I treated it with Ultra Bore Cote before any test firing. This is a 0.427" 3-shot group within the first 10 shots to cure the UBC. The load was a handload of 130gr Scirocco II and 66.5gr Ramshot Magnum. Looking forward to shooting the 6.5WSM and 6.5CM this weekend. I have some of the new 143 Hornady ELDX bullets to try in the CM. I think the Sciroccos in the WSM will be just fine on elk.

I have been told that a non-bake clear cerakote over the film dip will help with its longevity.

Was excited for my wife's first archery elk hunt in 7E...
Red Rabbit replied to Aimsmall's topic in Elk Hunting
if it is dry and warm like the first few years of the late archery, sitting water in the low country midday may work. -
Friend and I drew unit 9 late rifle Bull. I already have a new 30-06 in the works.

Quail season ended in February, so come March, it was time to shoot the Nikon instead of the Weatherby. Rica and I made photo trips to the Kofa Mountains in southwest Arizona, the Grand Canyon, and the Valley of the Gods in southeast Utah. Kofa Mountains, Arizona Valley of the Gods, Utah Grand Canyon Marble Canyon, Lees Ferry Arizona Joel at CameraLand had a special for a day, so i jumped on a new Nikon 200-500mm and have used it at the Grand Canyon and local wetlands. OK, it's onto April 1 and some Tom Foolery with the turkeys. Make it a good one.

Thanks all. Weather is looking good for next weekend's photography with clouds and storms. Hopefully the following week the elk draw results will be posted.

Coach, glad to help nurture your .264 addiction. ;-) Evan at Ruffs Guns in Flag has the reamer

Have a great fun-filled scouting season and hunt!

Looks like the 6.5 WSM will be going to Unit 9 for either Nov bull or Oct cow. Rica does not know yet that she gets to go elk hunting again.

HBD Keven, I hope your day was good and filled with flames above the frosting ;-)

JanUARY and FebrUARY did not supply the usual amount of landscape photography. Most weekends were spent finishing out quail season and some family events. I did manage a few day trips to the Grand Canyon, Sunset Crater and the local duck pond. While waiting for sunset at Hopi Point, I found enjoyment with the 70-200mm concentrating on the last light hitting the points down in the canyon A Sunday evening shooting easy mallards at the local "duck pond" These stark aspens against the dark lava field at Sunset Crater caught the attention.

Were these 83 lions taken in residential areas, or in the forests away from suburbia? I suspect one might be more likely to find sushi in a being's stomach if they are know to frequent sushi bars.

My neighbor went through the multiple charges fiasco yesterday. My apps went smoothly last week.

I would consider a 4 or 5 section tripod over a 3 section as it will pack smaller. If you are getting one to stand behind, get one with the necessary height without having to use the center column, as the extended center column is a good source of vibration. I would go to a good photo website like B&H or Adorama and do a search for tripod legs with your different specs. Pair it with a good 2-way fluid video head.

I did not start hunting until I moved onto a ranch in South Texas after college in 1980. First rifle was a Remington 700 BDL chambered in 7mm Express Remington. I chose that cartridge because John Wooters' had written so nicely about it, and I wanted to be different from the vanilla 270 and 30-06 flavorings.
