Hanging Lake looks pretty neat

Your stepson started with a nice trout. Hopefully there are more holdovers in his future.

Going from 15x58 to 12x50. Will I regret it?
Red Rabbit replied to kennyazman's topic in Optics and tripods
Have you thought of the Leica Duovids 10+15 ? They would save weight and space over having two pairs of binos and cover both magnification powers. This is the direction I went several years ago to consolidate my Minox 15x58 and a pair of 10x. You should be able to find a used pair for around 1800. -
I have 4 points for WY. Some say to hold out another year as an important mature age class is missing. My only other WY hunt was in 2010 in a top unit where I found a nice 80 incher. Still contemplating whether to pony up for the special tag this year.

Camera Advice Please
Red Rabbit replied to trphyhntr's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
You might also consider a superzoom camera. Nikon is soon to be shipping the P900. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1127274-REG/nikon_26499_coolpix_p900_digital_camera.html http://www.dpreview.com/products/nikon/compacts/nikon_cpp900 http://nikonrumors.com/2015/03/26/this-is-how-the-nikon-coolpix-p900-cameras-83x-zoom-at-2000mm-looks-like.aspx/ There are also the Panasonic FZ superzooms. My thought is that you would find a lens under 300mm too limiting for deer/wildlife. The new Tamron 150-600 is pretty nice for the $1000 and is getting popular for a less expensive telephoto. Canon just released a new 100-400mm lens, so you might find the old version on the used market for about $900 as some upgrade. -
Since a December Coues hunt, the Winchester has been put away and I have been shooting the Nikon in northern Arizona. Here is an image summary of the first quarter of 2015. Upgrades to the gear the past year have been nice, so GAS is in remission. Right now the camera bags is packed with the Nikon D810 & D600, Nikon 16-35, Tamron 24-70, Nikon 70-200 f/4, Nikon 300 f/4 with Canon 500d close-up lens for Macro, Tamrom 150-600. Thanks Amanda and Mulepackhunter. No cc hits for elk (yet), so looks like it'll be camera season.

There is gold in them hills!

Thanks for all the well wishes. That glow you may see on the horizon may be from too many candles.

It has been nice seeing your smile behind the deer for all these years. Keep it up Courtney!

The kit mentioned on craigslist has the Reloader Special-5 press, not the Rockchucker. http://www.cabelas.com/product/Shooting/Reloading/Reloading-Presses-Press-Kits|/pc/104792580/c/104761080/sc/104516280/RCBSreg-Explorer-Reloading-Kit/1581576.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Freloading-presses-press-kits%2Frcbs%2F_%2FN-1100195%2B1000004440%2B4294389112%2FNe-4294389112%2FNs-CATEGORY_SEQ_104516280%3FWTz_l%3DSBC%253BMMcat104792580%253Bcat104761080%26WTz_st%3DGuidedNav%26WTz_stype%3DGNU&WTz_l=SBC%3BMMcat104792580%3Bcat104761080%3Bcat104516280 Get the Rockchucker Supreme kit. You should also pick up a case trimmer and a set of calipers.

I believe from a friend's similar experience that the person who lost the tag needs to sign the affidavit. You could not get it for your wife.

I was out shooting rocks again, this time at Coyote Buttes along the Utah border. One can pick up a permit for popular Coyote Buttes in northern Arizona by entering a lottery 4 months in advance for one of 10 permits, or going to the BLM visitor center in Kanab, UT the day before for a drawing of 10 walk-in permits. Only a total of 20 permits are allowed per day for either the North or South sections. I had a permit for South CB a week ago Sunday. 4WD is required to drive across sand to get there. The sandstone offers nice colors, lines and shapes. I was blessed with a nice sunrise Sunday morning.
