I was reading about some photographers using a swimmers ear drier to help remove condensation off camera lenses, and thought that it might work to defog bino and spotting scope eyepieces when we glass in the late season. It is supposed to blow warm air. http://www.dryear.ne..._Works_s/26.htm I found a price of $40 on Amazon (list is $55 ?)

Thunder and BLACK clouds over Pinals and Hogs! Bring on the rain!!
Red Rabbit replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in The Campfire
Lots of blue and a few cumulus north of the peaks. NOAA says a high should set up and bring some moisture into eastern AZ next weekend, which sounds good to me. -
This link doesn't work for me. Works for me.

without a hunter saftey course, can my son put in for deer if he turns 14 after the draw, but before the hunt?? Yes, but be sure all the hunts on the app occur after his 14th BD. If i put in for a 3rd choice that has a 80% draw odds for 1st and 2nd applicants, does that make it impossible for me to draw that hunt. Pretty much no chance to draw, assuming the hunt is still an 80% this year again, as all the permits would have been issued in the 1-2 pass. Or when my app gets pulled, do they give me my 3rd,4th or 5th choice if my 1st or 2nd is not available?? Some stuff i have read makes it sound like if I dont get my 1st or 2nd, the draw will pass on my 3rd 4th or 5th, and give to applicants that have those hunts and 1st and 2nd choice. Thanks for the help After the 20% bonus pass, the first and second choices for everyone left are looked at in a separate pass in the draw. In the 1-2 pass, everyone's first and second choices are looked at and available permits issued. After the 1-2 pass, the remaining applicants are reissued random numbers and the #3-5 choices are given if permits remain. http://prdp2fs.ess.usda.gov/detail/coconino/news-events/?cid=STELPRDB5372020 The following restrictions are already effective on the Kaibab NF. Notice the prohibition of target shooting within these restrictions. Flagstaff, AZ – Due to extremely dry vegetation and high fire danger,Coconino National Forest officials will implement additional fire restrictions (Stage 2) beginning Wednesday at 9 a.m. Under these restrictions, fires, campfires, charcoal, coal or wood stoves continue to be prohibited on the forest, including in developed campgrounds. The restrictions also limit smoking to within enclosed vehicles or buildings. Fireworks are always prohibited on National Forest System lands. Additional restrictions prohibit: chainsaw use from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., discharging a firearm unless engaged in a lawful hunt, welding or operating acetylene or other torch with open flame, use of explosives, using any internal or external combustion engine without a spark arresting device properly installed, maintained, and in effective working order. Pressurized liquid or gas stoves and lanterns that can be turned off are allowed.

On Saturday June 9 for Get Outdoors Day, the NPS will waive admission fees. This would be a good day to see the Grand Canyon at a cooler 7000' http://www.nps.gov/findapark/feefreeparks.htm

It's incidents like these that will get the forest closed rather than have fire restrictions. It's incidents like these that have groups wanting to ban campfires altogether. After the Shultz and Wallow fires, I don't blame them. "Campers reported fellow campers this weekend for violating prohibitions on campfires in the Coconino and Kaibab national forests and on private properties. Altogether, Coconino County and Forest Service law enforcement responded to more than 70 campfires outside of developed campgrounds... Four wildfires began over the weekend in Flagstaff and the Coconino National Forest, with the largest at about 3.5 acres near Mormon Lake. Firefighters worked that fire all night on Monday, Walther said. All were human-caused, and all are under investigation." http://azdailysun.com/news/local/crime-and-courts/campfires-lit-despite-bans/article_c125093e-2e55-5ac2-95b5-3fab64859efd.html

A group of photographers from a landscape photography forum were having a gathering in Moab, Utah last weekend, so the preceeding week was spent taking the long way there via different locations in southern Utah. Some were national Parks, some were lesser known spots. First spot was Bryce Canyon. I had been there one cold winter a few years ago, so the warmer temperatures and lack of snow were appreciated. All of the hoodoos can become an indistinct jumble in a wide angle view, so I tried zooming in on individual formations. After the Sunday morning shoot, I ventured a little eastward to Willis Creek. It forms some narrow canyons. Although not a slender as a slot canyon or with the red sandtone of Antelop Canyon, it did have some nice curves and light reflection. It was nice in that Rica could hike also, unlike in most national parks. Off of the Hole in the Rock Road is Goblin Valley. Just a small area with interesting sandstone structures. Between Escalante and Boulder is a nice tree-lined sandstone canyon formed by perennial Calf Creek. At the end of the 2 3/4 mile trail may be one of the most beautiful falls in the southwest. I spent a few hours photographing various sections of Lower Calf Creek Falls. The Burr Trail passes through Long Valley southeast of Boulder. The road along the old cattle drive route is now like a slot canyon for cars. Pine trees growing beneath the varnished sandstone walls made for nice viewing. At the upper end of Long Canyon are the Circle Cliffs, whose colorful rock sit upon equally colorful red and blue clays. The Burr Trail road leads down to Waterpocket Fold. The last four days of the trip were spent around Moab. Had a morning at photogenic and popular Deadhorse State Park. An evening was spent in Arches when a dust and wind covered Canyonlands. One sunrise was spent intertwining tripod legs with other photographers at Mesa Arch in Canyonlands NP. The last evening around Moab was spent above Castle Valley with the other photographers from the NPN forum. This is a sampling of ten days of photography. Other images from the trip can be seen in the Bryce, Escalante, and Moab galleries in my photo album. http://www.plateauli...92638&k=hVn2wjx http://www.plateauli...51038&k=NXdjHQJ http://www.plateauli...09410&k=LdLCKxr Thanks for looking. Red Rabbit replied to Lance's topic in CouesWhitetail.com Get-togethers!
TJ, the Flagstaff AZGFD office has the CNF maps, so I picked one up. The 128B road that leads to fischer point (the one we were on 2 years ago) is open with 100' camping. -

6TH ANNUAL CWT.com MARSHALL LAKE GET-TOGETHER
Red Rabbit replied to Lance's topic in CouesWhitetail.com Get-togethers!
Forest closures maybe something to contend with this year. I was to Marshall about a month ago and the water level was very low. Best close-by trout fishing may be at Ashurst. -
Thanks all. TJ, I have not had any images published yet, but I have not made any submissions either. So far, I do this mostly for fun and sharing.

Gila Wilderness Fire, smoke plume seen from the house
Red Rabbit replied to ScottAdams's topic in Non-hunting trip reports
Sounds like a big fire, but seems the Gila always has been a nasty burn area in recent years. -
Joined a couple of other landscape photographers at a prime location to get the eclipse with an arch. We did not have any solar filters, so the images were with fuzzy suns. It was fun, but no earth shattering results.

In addition to outside cams, inside cams hidden well should be used also to prove entrance. I suspect video mode would be a good choice.

Nothing like a good bluegrass tune and a cup of coffee to jump start the Saturday morning. What's playing over your stereo?
