    Delorme Atlas Gazatteer sale

Delorme is running a special on it's Atlas and Gazetteers until February 10th. They're 50% off with Priority Code 9908. I just ordered one each of Colorado and Wyoming. Heads up for those needing something between a topo and a raod map. http://shop.delorme.com/OA_HTML/DELibeCCtpSctDspRte.jsp?section=10096

    My new Popup Camper

Comfort off the ground will be nice. Are the axles already flipped?

My VERY COOL buck from Mexico

Ernesto, Congrats on a super buck! Mexico has rewarded you well. Those sticker points make for a lot of character. The ranch you were on looks to have nice huntable terrain and vegetation. Doug~RR
  4. This is the last weekend for quail, as the season ends Feb 5. Who's going? I figure I may try around Sedona and see if Rica and I can down a few Gambels from those spooky coveys. If anything, it'll be a nice weekend.

    Draw Question

If you are only using one hunt number, it makes no sense nor adds any advantage to put it down again for choices 2-5. It sometimes does make sense to put the same hunt number as first and second choice if you wish to not have a lesser hunt selected in the 20% pass as second choice, and then have some 100% odds hunts listed as 3rd, 4th +/or 5th choices. But if you are holding out/building bonus points for a primo early hunt, you likely would not put a 100% hunt as #3-5 anyway

    Another great hunt in Mexico!

Great looking buck. Antlerwise, I like the darkness, the extra inline and the webbing it created.

    Booner Bulls

While the application deadline nears and we contemplate and flip coins about which unit and hunt to apply for, here is a compilation of the top B&C elk to keep our minds whirling. Anyone have a three-sided coin? http://www.outdoorlife.com/photos/gallery/hunting/2011/08/world-record-elk-nontypical-world-record-elk-typical-record-elk-spide

    Wall is getting filled

I like the huge trout. The only problem I see is that "wall" is singular
  13. Whiskey or not, Roger may buy the hunt just to see his brother Javier again Congrats on the long-beamer and sharing a nice write-up.

Nice character to the antlers and a scruffy hide. Congrats. Don't forget the coues contest http://www.coueswhitetail.com/Coues_Buck_Contest_2011/coues_buck_contest_2011-12.htm
  15. It's been posted elsewhere that Winchester is doing a special edition of a Jack O'Connor style Model 70 in 270 Winchester. Looks nice (aside from the signature on the trigger guard) http://www.winchesterguns.com/products/catalog/detail.asp?mid=535145&family=001C and a custom JOC edition with better wood and steel buttplate http://www.winchesterguns.com/products/catalog/detail.asp?mid=535146&family=001C Better get your orders in before Lark buys up the rest of the run

I noticed that also about the fit and chip. I imagine that there will be a few of these ordered though.

    Action and barrel

You could buy a complete rifle (new or used) and sell off the stock. Howa sells barelled actions, but i do not see 300WSM listed. http://www.legacysports.com/products/howa_baractions.html

    >300wsm or .300win mag?

Either one as they are pretty equal. Both have a good assortment of available factory ammo to choose from. If you reload, the WM may have an advantage of 100fps, but that means nothing in reality out to 500 yards. I have not noticed the shorter action of the WSM to be a major advantage, unless you want a light mountain rifle and ounces count. You can reduce felt recoil without a brake by choosing a heavier gun with a good straight stock design, wide butt, put on good recoil pad, and shoot lighter weight premium bullets rather than 180-200 grain cup and core bullets. Seems that I would choose what rifle I wanted, and then see what chamberings (WSM and/or WM) it comes in. If recoil is the major factor, the 30-06 will work fine to your 500 yards and may be a better choice than the mags.

    Where's the success rate numbers??

Since the 2011 elk seasons just ended in December, there was likely not enough time to assimilate the data and publish. One can look in the Hunt Arizona book and see past success rates. http://www.azgfd.gov/pdfs/h_f/HuntAZ_2011.pdf

Kent, you must be from Utah and looking for a good start. Look at this raffle/auction tag list. Unbelievable. http://www.monstermuleys.info/dcforum/DCForumID5/18901.html

Happy Birthday Red Rabbit, Vowell and Minguscoues!

Thanks. Spent the weekend in the valley with the folks and sisters, eating and watching the games. Went to the Art Show in Carefree where I heard my name yelled out. Traditional archer friends from Prescott&NM who do stained glass artwork had a booth there, so talked with Kim and Craig for a few hours as I had not seen them in a few years. Doug~RR
