Remington lists the twist at 1 in 9" in their Sendero 264WM For those 140 VLDs, one might prefer a faster 1 in 8.

Hunting boots: what's good and what isn't?
Red Rabbit replied to CouesSlayer77's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
On another forum, Crispis were mentioned as being good to minimize heel slip for those with narrow heels. -
What organizations will be qualified? SFW? Seems SFW was under the microscope in the startup of the AZ organization due to SFW operations in Utah. Judging from posts on Monster Muleys, UT SFW is rather contentious and the accounting of expo funds have not been published. What % of UT SFW funds actually hit the ground for habitat and wildlife? What % of the UT SFW tag monies have gone back to UTDWR? How is AZ SFW different from the UT SFW?

With a new year upon us, it's a time to reflect on past events. So what was your best outdoor adventure of 2011? This does not necessarily have to be hunting, as it could have been a fishing, camping, scouting or hiking trip. What was it that made it your best adventure? Feel free to throw in a photo or two.

Dryer sheets used to repel Gnats? Someone bring a box to Marshall Lake in June "Gnats No More. Fabric softener sheets not only repel static cling but pests. A joint study last year by Kansas State University and University of Illinois found out that fabric softener sheets repel gnats. Fabric softener contains chemicals that prevent gnat larva from wreaking havoc on indoor and greenhouse potted plants. (Dave Howell asked that this be posted) This is my daughter Lilli's trophy Coues from Nov. 2011 She is 19 yrs old, A Pre Med student & a very busy young lady. She has been on a few deer & pig hunts before, but this is her first blood. It was the most excited I've been in many years. We Screamed, Laughed, Danced, & Cried together. All while my son & friends watched from far below. With the passing of my wife & their mother, It's been a tuff year. This hunt was a needed healing trip, I am blessed, & so proud of the young adults my kids are becoming. Dave Howell ....aka. Couesnut

nosajpo, sounds like you had a nice hunt. I really enjoyed my WY antelope hunt in 2010. I have been looking at draw odds, winterkill areas, and Eastmans reports to figure a unit for which to apply this year with good chance of being drawn. Those pronghorn sure are beautiful and mine was tasty.

I was thinking putting one under each sock, as the gnats really bite at the sock line. But then again, OFF works well .

The flip is that the alt mgt units will have relatively fewer permits in the earlier hunts than the cash cow units like 33. One has to think that all the tags over all the seasons in the non-alt units will ultimately negatively impact the buck:doe ratios and the buck age classes.

For the 300 WSM, try Ramshot Hunter, H4350 and H4831sc. I like the Ramshot powder as the smaller kernels meter and funnel better, and it is less expensive. Federal 215M primers

I like the breasts wrapped with bacon that has been lined with green chilis, and then grilled. Sometimes it's tough sharing with Rica the fruits of her labor.

Hope everyone has a prosperous new year in 2012. The last few days of 2011 were spent enjoying pleasant days overlooking Lake Powell. Only a few boats on the lake, and only one other vehicle on the remote point overlooking Gunsight Bay. A prior trip had overcast skies, but this journey was rewarded with pink skies at sunset which cast a pleasing tone to the sandstone bluffs. Some more images of the weekend are at the end of the Vermilion Cliffs Gallery http://www.plateaulightphotography.com/Landscapes/Vermilion-Cliffs/11291650_X8hn85#1655619364_GZ4mJ9V New Year's Eve was spent at another serene point with hoodoos. Tried some star images as a learning experience. Doug

Larry, here is one informative chart showing expanded bullets at various velocities. http://stevespages.com/jpg/bestbullet.jpg This may be a good comparison of bullets, (but not at min velocity though) http://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/topics/1481504/Huge_264_Bullet_Test_with_lots Here's JB's article on the Berger VLD performance http://www.bergerbullets.com/Information/Barsness%20Article.pdf

Schmecht Gut. Peg probably will get "buggy" more often now. Glad you saved that wine bottle from near death with some mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

There are usually plenty of camps right before the Elkhorn.
