Maybe look for a Marlin 39A.

Bill, Back when I was in backpacking mode decades ago, I made several hikes that included Hermit, Tonto, Clear Creek, Grandview, Kaibab and Bright Angel. Each time I am on the rim taking photograph, I long to be hiking from below, as that is a great way to see the canyon. I have not rafted, but it may be one of those bucket-list trips. What a grandiose place to have in our backyard. Doug

You really should make the trip for a weekend and be there at sunset at Hopi Point. Sunrise at Lipan Point is very nice also.
-
Congrats all the way around on your successes.

I am shooting a 6.5WSM. No feeding issues with the sharp shoulder. Using WW 270WSM brass. Maybe would use a 1-8 5R instead of the 1-9 polygonal, but I originally chose the twist for using 130gr bullets, not 140gr.

Hmmmm, fires 5 times and gets 6 reindeer. Can't tell if Santa is in the sleigh. Must have happened about 11 years ago as I recall the image of the boy crying by Santa's headstone.

I agree with Lark on this one. -
Troy, congrats on a great hunt Be glad you got the permit when you are young enough to climb those mountains . I am sure that you know the treasured value of your sheep hunt as you have been hunting with desire in your years. Doug

While up at the Grand Canyon to catch the lunar eclipse Saturday morning, a group of mule deer with a young forky buck obliged for a Nikon moment. A couple other shots are posted in my wildlife photo gallery. http://www.plateaulightphotography.com/Wildlife/Wildlife/11294910_dT3gqT#1627197156_7MPKPxh Thanks for looking. Doug

While at the Grand Canyon for the lunar eclipse, the evening and morning light playing on the canyon walls was enjoyable to see. There were no clouds for sunrise or sunset, so the focus was on these inner canyon intimates. Plenty more to process, so here are a couple and a few more are in the gallery Pima Point Images Doug~RR

Yes, right click and enjoy.

How was the animal movement Saturday morning during the eclipse?
-
Just a heads up that the total lunar eclipse will be visible Saturday morning before sunrise. Could be nice with the moon near the western horizon with the light before sunrise. http://earthsky.org/astronomy-essentials/when-is-the-next-total-lunar-eclipse-for-north-america http://www.mreclipse.com/LEphoto/LEphoto.html

Amanda, no red moon that night. Guess it needed to be higher in the sky when totality occured and not down in the dirty air.
-
I was up at the Grand Canyon hoping to get the eclipse as the moon set right before sunrise. Unfortunately, the moon entered totality and was not bright enough to be seen through the haze in the low sky. Next time in 2014 Taken before sunset. Sure was cold on the rim at 6:30 AM.

The positive aspect of road hunters is that it decreases hunter density actually in the woods. But the hard part in AZ is finding a spot away from a road where critters are not disturbed. If USFS actually closes a road with a good physical barrier under their travel management plan, that part could be a good thing. (not that all of the TMP is good).

Good things happen to good people. When is surgery scheduled?

If you have the late December tag which starts Dec 9, the week after Christmas will be best. Still hunt as much as the season as you can though. The nice thing about 36C is that one can get to the base of the mountain but has to hike in from there, which eliminates a road hunter mentality. Consider a bivy camp to reduce in/out hiking time. The access points and the mile posts for the roads are given on the G&F website. http://www.azgfd.gov/h_f/hunting_units_36c.shtml Study hard for finals.
