    36A Pics added 10/2

AZGFD has info about access to 36A http://www.azgfd.gov/h_f/hunting_units_36a.shtml Duwane and Tony have a good book on hunting Coues. http://www.coueswhitetail.com/bookstore/books.htm More basic tactic stuff here http://www.coueswhitetail.com/hunt_strategies/hunting_strategies.htm I suspect you will find coues from the flats at the base of the mountains to the tops. Pick your likings. And welcome to CWT.com.
  3. TJ, I missed this. Looked like a good day with your dad and Lexi. My dad has not had any interest to fish or hunt.

    First coues hunt!!!

Duwane Adams and Tony Mandile wrote a book about hunting coues. It would be a good read for you. http://www.coueswhitetail.com/bookstore/books.htm DuWane also has a glassing video http://www.coueswhitetail.com/bookstore/hunting_videos.htm#glassing dvds and gives glassing lessons that I hear are a good learning experience. Most of the coues hunting DVDs are entertainment, and not much on technique and tactics, imo. Some info on the home pages http://www.coueswhitetail.com/hunt_strategies/hunting_strategies.htm Good luck on your hunt and welcome to cwt.com.

    Almost quail time

I ran into a bunch of Gambels when hunting javelina NE of the lake a few years ago, but the amount of cholla would not be dog friendly. I plan on giving it a try in the mornings this opening weekend down by Sedona.

    A Few Valleys

Thank you Bill. I have talked with a friend that has some images in a local coop gallery, but have not pursued that option yet. I have not submitted any images to Arizona Highways, but have been told that it may be best to meet with the editor rather than just submitting by mailing in a disc of images. I recently hung 7 framed prints in a local pizza place, so if anyone goes to the new NiMarcos Pizza in front of Busters Restaurant on South Milton in Flagstaff, feel free to get some good pizza and a gander. A few years ago, my photographic endeavor started for personal enjoyment, sharing, and to put together a calendar for family and friends. Doug

    A Few Valleys

Last weekend was to be the Mitten Shadow at Monument Valley with a full moon, but the rain gods had other plans for the sunsets. The trip started with Saturday evening overlooking the San Juan River at Mexican Hat. I was hoping the moon would rise above the river, but it came too far to the left. Nearby is Valley of the Gods which I drove into after dark Saturday night. I did not know what to expect when the sun rose, as I had never been there. Some nice buttes and views were liken to Monument Valley, so it seems to be a nice place to hike and explore. The full moon rising above the Mitten shadow did not happen Sunday evening due to thunderstorms. It was a repeat wet performance Monday evening. There was however a leprechaun sighting earlier in the afternoon in Monument Valley. Next weekend, the archery elk hunters will be through hunting and it will be time to chase bugles and shoot with the Nikon. Good luck to you elk hunters this last week. Doug~RR

Congrats to you Jody. It must have been fun yet nerve-racking to close the distance in the openness of the burn.

they keep making fun of me, but it works!

It does look more adjustable than the hose clamp and bailing wire that you are using on your 270's riflescope

    The Rut This Year

Peak is usually about Oct 1. Whether temps and moon allow you to observe rutting behavior while the rut is occuring is another question.

    How Long Is Too Long?

There seems to be an unfortunate trend occuring. http://forums.coueswhitetail.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=26438 I have usually figured one year for turnaround.
