I did not see anything about Gore-tex, so not having that will help with breathability.

I should be there late Friday afternoon. Rica and Lexie can do the meet and greet.

Since I had sent in my huntinig apps during the correction period, I did not make the last minute run to G&F to turn them in. Instead, the fullish moon rising between the spires of Cathedral Rock in Sedona beckoned. As the magic time neared, a couple of coyotes began to yap from the flat below me. I hoped Rica would not go down to answer their calls as the vocals had her perked. Hope you had a good evening and good luck in the draw. Doug~RR

5th ANNUAL CWT MARSHALL LAKE GET TOGETHER
Red Rabbit replied to Lance's topic in CouesWhitetail.com Get-togethers!
Lance, Was the rumor you heard from a FS employee? I think they have their meetings on a Tuesday or Wednesday, so we should hear midweek. Doug~RR -
Dodger, sad indeed. I hope your family will rebuild for your special place.

The fire was about 1.1 miles east of Reservation Lake this morning, so appears to be growing closer. The couple of fire spots west of the 273 just north of Sheeps Crossing do not bode well. The strong line of spots just southwest of Greer does not appear to follow a road.
-
Thank you PD. The pictures from around Big Lake are encouraging to see.

Suspected to be human caused? More like arson with multiple starting points.

Same thing for the Warm fire, Horseshoe fire, Hochderfer fire. Complete disdain for SWCBD, et al.

When did I hear about closing the barn door? Blake, I was referring to closing the barn door after the horses have already escaped. Doug

The google earth fire data map shows fire spots along the east fork and the ridge between east and west forks of the LCR, and also closer to River Res. oh sh*t.
-
On the Google Earth Map, looks like there are new fire spots just south and east of River Res.

From Inciweb: New evacuations are currently underway in portions of Eager and Springerville. Essentially, all areas WEST of Main St are under evacuation, including all areas north of Highway 260, South of Hwy 60 and the airport. The phones at the call center are currently down. For public information call: 702-308-3238, 702-308-3357, 702-308-8227

Better news related this morning regarding Big Lake (was postd on AZSJ): "Well, here is the latest news from the district ranger here in springerville. He was at big lake today. All buildings are standing at the store and campgrounds. The recreation area is holding up great. The OPS guys are setting up fire camp at Big Lake/Crescent lake and also putting in a Helo base camp there too. Could you guys please pass this info along. We are getting alot of mis-information out there. Even though the fire map shows were are in the red, that does not show what EXACT parts have burned. We are hearing it straight from the source."

My Boy's first harvest and taxidermy project.
Red Rabbit replied to WildHeritageTaxidermy's topic in Youth Hunters
Good luck in the competition. The rug format really shows the coloration of the Abert very well, much more than with a full body mount, imo. Doug~RR -
This was a comment made on wmicentral.com, so take it as heresay for what is may be worth in terms of accuracy: "I spoke with a firefighter who is on down time from the Wallow Fire. He told me that the fire was initially considered a "wilderness" fire and that no crews were sent in until Monday. When the crews did arrive they were told that they could not use their dozer to cut line because there were two dens of wolf pups in the area that officials did not want disturbed. He also said that the Big Lake area has been "moonscaped" and that it is unrecognizable. He told me that the ground in some spots had been fused into glass and that, with this kind of heat, even the 200 year old Ponderosa's, even if they did not suffer a crown fire, could not survive."

Adam and Bill, in watching the webcam from Molly Butler, no flames were noticed yesterday. If there were guys on the ground on the ridge above east fork, they did a heck of a job keeping it out of the valley yesterday.

Do you use 10x binos for Big Game Hunting?
Red Rabbit replied to BigWave's topic in Optics and tripods
For open country, 10x then 15x. Leica Duovids 10-15x50 I find the fov too narrow for the elk woods though, so got a pair of Zen-Ray 7x36 ED2 for the timber. -
The Google Earth fire data map is showign a few fire spots on the edge of the rim above the east fork of the LCR, even with the south end of the east fork road from Greer. And other spots right at Mexican Hay Lake. The Greer webcam looks ominous. http://weather.weatherbug.com/AZ/Greer-weather/weather-cams/local-cams.html?zcode=z6286&camera_id=GRRMB&camera_animate=60

Lark, This was posted on another forum regarding the Horseshoe fire. "but the growth of the fire is an intentional act. They told me personally that the FS did not want this much energy spent here again for many years." So in other words, burn it all so they do not have to worry about fire soon again??? What a messed up mind set of the FS admin. On the Warm Fire on the North Kaibab, I was told the decision was made to let it burn east of the highway 67 (rather than try to stop it at the highway) since there were plans to do a controlled burn on the east side. Also, they could have put it out in the early moments when it was just a few square feet. I believe that decision maker was promoted.
-
Lark, I read that also about the FS thought it would burn itself out. I do not recall where I read it though, but it certainly was not on inciweb.
