The Coconino and Kaibab Nationa Forests are lifting the fire restrictions Friday 5/20/2011 at 8AM This may be welcome news if you are heading to the high country this weekend. http://www.fs.usda.gov/wps/portal/fsinternet/!ut/p/c4/04_SB8K8xLLM9MSSzPy8xBz9CP0os3gjAwhwtDDw9_AI8zPyhQoY6BdkOyoCAGixyPg!/?ss=110307&navtype=BROWSEBYSUBJECT&cid=STELPRDB5301320&navid=180000000000000&pnavid=null&position=News&ttype=detail&pname=Kaibab National Forest- News & Events

If you want to stand, get the tallest tripod you can without having to extend the center column for the needed height. Hang a rock bag from the center column also to make it more steady. I would avoid light/thin legs for a fully extended tripod for standing. I prefer to glass while sitting on a foam pad, so a shorter, lighter tripod works for me. I too like the 700RC2 head. I like to use Adorama or B&H to search the options. http://www.adorama.com/searchsite/default.aspx?category=1385&indimsearch=1 http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?ci=2636&N=4291756623&cm_sp=Filters-_-Category-_-Tripod_Legs

HELP: Want to put turrets on my scope...
Red Rabbit replied to NewHunter's topic in Optics and tripods
Here is the Leupold custom shop webpage. You can also call them and inquire about options for turrets. I like the M1 turrets. https://customshop.leupold.com/custom_shop.php -
Here is some more information about the shoot. http://flagstaffarchers.org/assets/Flyer_11FA2.pdf

Cool. The Flagstaff paper had a set of images about a white mule deer seen recently north of town. I believe Wisconsin has protection against shooting their white deer. http://azdailysun.com/promo/homepage/collection_41ffbb20-7cb1-11e0-8425-001cc4c03286.html Doug~RR

Doing that will then have only your first choice considered in the 20% bonus pass and the 1-2 pass. It will prevent a different, easier-to-draw, second choice from being selected in the 20% pass. Remember that apps have to be in by May 27 for the correction period.

Stage One Fire Restrictions are in effect on the Coconino. Campfires are allowed only in developed recreation areas (when hosts are present). Outside of those areas, pressurized gas appliances are allowed (no wood or charcoal fires). The fire Danger is "High" http://www.fs.fed.us/r3/coconino/conditions/index.shtml#firerestrictions

Campfire Restrictions on Coronado Coconino, Kaibab NF-
Red Rabbit replied to Red Rabbit's topic in The Campfire
Coronado NF also, effective May 10. In addition to fires, smoking and welding, looks like it includes target shooting also. http://www.fs.fed.us/r3/coronado/documents/20110510CNFFireRestrictionsWEB.pdf -
Wish I could climb like that. Actually, these are ibex on the face of a dam in northern Italy.

Yep, seems the paper rags are more a source of opinions and leftist editorials and less for complete information/news. There is also a new fire in Horseshoe/Jack Wood canyons in the Chiricauhas. Report I read said BP was tracking illegals and the footprints led to the origin of the fire. Fire is heading over to Sulfur Spings and all those nice oaks and ranches. http://inciweb.org/incident/2225/

Smoking and Fire restrictions on the South Kaibab NF also. http://www.fs.usda.gov/wps/portal/fsinternet/!ut/p/c5/04_SB8K8xLLM9MSSzPy8xBz9CP0os3gDfxMDT8MwRydLA1cj72BTFxdjAwgAykeaxRtBeY4WBv4eHmF-YT4GMHn8usNB9uHXDzYBB3A00PfzyM9N1S_IjTDIMnFUBADEf0RM/dl3/d3/L2dJQSEvUUt3QS9ZQnZ3LzZfMjAwMDAwMDBBODBPSEhWTjJNMDAwMDAwMDA!/?navtype=&cid=stelprdb5297973&navid=180000000000000&pnavid=&ss=110307&position=News.Html&ttype=detail&pname=Kaibab National Forest- Alerts -
I believe the delisting only pertains to Idaho and Montana as having possible hunts in the Rocky Mountains..

After choosing the bullet you wish to use, pick a couple of powders that give top velocity with about 90% load density so you do not have to resort to compressed loads. Work up the charge range shooting over a chronograph. Try large and magnum primers to see what give you the best ES-extreme spread and groups. The reloading manuals will say what primer they used.

Winners were recently announced and prizes are being shipped now. With the contest over, it is time to reflect and suggest. This year, it seemed that the number of entries was noticeably less than in past years. Might this be due to: *Dwindling interest? *The posting of bigger bucks in the contest entries thread kept one from entering a smaller buck? Perhaps not knowing what has been entered by not posting received entries may prevent this? Categories? Enough? Additional categories to suggest or ones to eliminate? Number of winners in each category? Did you like not having any pre-registration and just having to submit after the hunt? Feel free to post your comments here or send me a PM. Doug~RR

One did not have to kill a deer to enter the photo-essay of their hunt, or have a spirit of the hunt photo. I know many help on others hunts even if they are not drawn themselves. Thus, next year I could envision more spirit-of-the-hunt photos taken while helping on others' hunts. The prizes for smallest buck have been pretty good (trail cam, gift certificates, binoculars). Surprised no one entered a spike this year.

Here is a review of the new Vortex HDs from a person whose opinion I value. http://opticstalk.com/vortex-razor-hd-review_topic28759.html Regarding the older, first generation Razors, I personally preferred the ZR ED that I had and tested against the Razor. Beardown- the Zen-Ray warranty is lifetime and fully transferable. Both ZR and Vortex should be good-to-go.

Guess it's official since the leftover application and check were returned and received in today's mail. App was marked "unsuccesful hunt filled" Looks like it is time to start researching pheasant hunting in Nebraska.

In comparing 2008 to 2010 (2009 files were lost in a crash), only the youth entries increased- from 6 to 9, which is good to see. Archery entries went down from 10 to 7 Rifle entries went down from 33 to 23. Mexico entries went down from 9 to 4. About a 35% decrease of entries in adult categories.

Near Blowout Tank west off the Willard Springs I-17 exit north of Munds Park. (Flagstaff Archers is holding a 3D shoot there on June 25-26) Ward Camp on FR700 north of Munds Park. June is the time of year when there are fire restrictions or forest closures.

Way cool. Might see a problem where the bullet exit hole is. Now to put the air compressor in the truck . Wonder if a 5 gal propane bottle filled with compressed air would work.

Is that the famed Chicken Ranch?
