    2011 Draw Results

At the present, they are releasing as soon as feasible. If they establish a set date, it would be likely after when we are currently getting results. Then everyone would complain that we used to get the results by the end of March.

    2011 Draw Results

I was thinking the exact same thing Buff Hunter. I would apply to NM anyway before their computer crashes. In AZ last year, there were 19,470 applicants for 945 antelope permits, and 79,041 applicants for 25,895 elk permits. Only 1in20 will be hunting antelope and 1in3 hunting elk.
  5. The hunting turrets are finger adjustable, but do not have any numbers, just hash marks. Both are 1/4 moa clicks.

    Pan Seared Coues Backstrap

Hector, you mean that there is a way to cook backstrap besides seasoning, wrapping it in bacon and putting it over mesquite? Looks good!
  7. A few weeks ago, the Canada geese were feeding daily in the meadow of Kachina Village since the melting snow made it marshy and there were green shoots. I was able to get within 25 yards. I am not a waterfowl hunter, but did shoot them with a camera. Nikon D90, 300mm, w/ 1.4x TC. Another image here: Balanced Goose

    Great job Senator Munoz!!!!

If I read it correctly, cow elk would be resident only and % were changed http://www.wildlife.state.nm.us/documents/documents/BillTracking_3-18-11.pdf 2/25/11 – Committee Substitute reduced Non-resident Game Hunting License cost; Antlerless elk hunts are resident only; WMA hunts are resident only; sets draw to 84% Resident, 10% contracted with outfitter, regardless of residency, 6% Non-resident; adds language to define a NM Outfitter. Do pass (8-1) sent to Senate Floor

    2011 Draw Results

I posted this in the Chino Grande thread also: After discussion of options, the commission voted 3-2 to reduce the number of antelope permits in 19B to ZERO for both the archery and general hunts. There should be a press release later today. The first option was to run the draw "as is" with successful 19B applicants having the option to not receive a permit and receive a refund and BP. The second option was to run the draw with a reduced number of permits reflective of the possibility to not hunt Chino Grande. The third option was to have 0 permits. All options were said to have have negative impacts. In the draw, a person's next hunt choice would move up with the removal of 19B hunt choices. I understood the possible closure of Chino Grande to be due to development of solar energy.

    Chino Grande Ranch 19B

http://azgfd.net/artman/publish/NewsMedia/Game-and-Fish-Commission-to-discuss-Chino-Grande-Ranch-at-March-23-meeting.shtml At the 2009? hunt set meeting when the problem arose before, commissioner Freeman made a call during the commission meeting and was able to secure hunter access. I believe that outfitter dollars (as Mike/Rembrandt mentions) were the driving force behind the pending closure then. Checkerboard lands do a lot to help diminish public access.

    Draw Results

iirc, last year G&F wanted to post results before the Expo, but there was a snafu and hence the 29th. With luck, maybe results will be out next week before the Expo, but I have not spoken to any little birds recently.

    Turkey Vulture Rock-

On some of my previous ventures, I had seen this small arch a mile off the road. Took the time this last weekend to check it out. Turns out it is guarded by this stone vulture . Proof positive that the condors inhabited the area many, many years ago and died out as they had nothing but sandstone to eat . Vulture Rock Ugly Head Buzzard Arch, that which it was guarding. Didn't see any fossilized eggs though . While driving on the road that evening, a group of muley bucks crossed in the headlights, some with small racks, some had dropped, nothing huge. Doug

    Rica Hikes the Wave

Since getting rained out two weeks ago by impassible clay roads, Rica and I were able to secure another permit to hike and photograph the Wave in North Coyote Buttes along the Utah border. It is about a 90 minute hike into this sandstone area. Unfortunately, the sun was filtered by some high clouds preceding another storm, so we did not get the best of light. Still it was a good venture. We started the day in an area called the Bone Yard with some sandstone rocks that have a lattice structure. They have fallen from the mountain above onto some striped sandstone slopes. #1 #2 Near the entrance to the Bone Yard #3 From the Bone Yard, we hiked down the draw to Sand Cove. #4 #5 From Sand Cove, we scrambles up the sandstone slop to an area called Second Wave. It was there in the early afternoon that the sun started shining through the thinning clouds. The weather front also ushered in some 50 mph wind gusts that made standing a bracing situation while being sandblasted. #6 #7 A few hundred yards away is the Wave, the area that brings tourists from around the world. From above the wave: #8 #9 #10 From within the Wave: #11 #12 #13 Rica donning her pack: #14 A thicker bank of clouds loomed on the western horizon in the late afternoon, so without a pending sunset, Rica and I hiked back out to the truck to end our weekend journey. 2011 Draw Results

Most likely before the Expo. Having the earlier draw and online results sure beats finding out in late July by waiting by the mailbox as in years past. Whether the results are out tomorrow or next month, don't fret. It is when it is.
