cracked base on .270 cartridge
Red Rabbit replied to Pine Donkey's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Good that it was just a simple die adjustment to solve the problem. Starting over with new brass now? -

Guess you own a Hoochie Mama then I would get some various diaphram calls to see what works best in your mouth, and the DVD series from Elknut http://www.elknut.com/DVDS.html

Merry Christmas to you and especially Little Lark. You are lucky that English (and not French) is the predominant language in Nova Scotia.

For you night owls, there is a total eclipse of the moon this early Tuesday morning Dec 21. Here is a link with info and times. Note that times are Eastern ST, so one needs to subtract 2 hours for Mountain ST. Mid-eclipse should be about 1:17AM here. If you miss it, guess you gotta wait till 2014. http://www.mreclipse.com/MrEclipse.html

I woke up at 1:30 AM and somehow there was a break in the clouds. Still enough high clouds to make for a foggy look without detail. Eclipse was about mid and the color was an orangish brown. Looked through the binos and went back to bed.

Hoping your stockings are stuffed with tags and good cheer.

I have read where many like the Yosemites. And they come in cool colors for your daughter.

Earlier this year I left my Goulds, a pair of harlequin drakes, and a mearns with Sven Eberson of WildlifeWings in Glendale. The mounts on his wall looked good. He mounts predominantly birds. I will get to pick the mounts up in January.

With 13B having 55 permits and thus 11 tags for the 20% pass, and considering a few NR tags, it may be a few years still before you draw. Till then, a side job may get you the guide $, talk to former hunters, and spend some holiday weekends/vacation time scouting before you draw. Even without a guide, I would wait to draw and hunt DIY rather than jump the points ship. Keep able to keep a good PMA on the hunt since deer are sparce and some are apt to get frustrated with the lack of deer and bucks seen.

8 gigs of fresh ammo were put in the Nikon and I strapped on the pack to "hunt" a couple of canyons on the reservations north of Flagstaff this past weekend. The Nikon had a new 16-35 scope recently mounted, so this would be a good field test under low light conditions of dawn and dusk. Preliminary Internet scouting and looking at TPE and topo maps revealed that the sun was going to be at an optimum angle this past weekend for shooting. Hopefully the canyon critters would be out and about. Early the first evening, a couple of hoodoos stuck their necks up, but they turned out to be skinheaded does. As dusk came, I was at a point that afforded a wide view of the canyon and a good game trail below. Alas, nary even a bovine was seen stirring. Took a few practice shots at some distant rocks to check the Nikon's accuracy and called the evening's hunt over. THe new scope decent light gathereing ability and appears sharper than the cheaper "kit" scope that came with the D90. With little game spotted, I packed up and moved camp to another canyon close by. As the crow flies it is close, but required almost an hour of washboarded road. Morning broke and when I crawled from the comfort of the mummy bag, these peppermint creatures were seen standing just outside of camp. Wonder how they snuck in so quietly without even alerting my hunting dog Rica. I explored some nooks and crannies, seeing some deer tracks in the soft sand, but not the living cervids that made them. I ran into a couple of other hunters armed with Canons. They had done some hunting under the stars and were quite successful as I saw when they showed me there captures. Perhaps the horses of these Black Knights spooked the canyon critters away away. After many practice shots at rocks and half my ammo gone, I holstered the Nikon and headed home. Even though no tag was wrapped around an antler, it was a successful "hunt", as is any time spent in the outdoors. Doug~RR

Steve, remember that the 2010 elk hunts just finished, so not enough time to get the hunt success data from the hunters and processed.

I was wondering when for the online and checked earlier today. thanks. http://www.azgfd.gov/eservices/documents/2...booklet_WEB.pdf The printed version will likely be out in January/

Candid and well said thoughts about irrresponsible shooting, Gino. The same could be said for archers (seemingly more for antelope) and even those who take closer rifle shots at running game. Perhaps you read on your favorite forum, MM, about the young girl who took 450? yard shots at a running muley and hit the buck the second time in head.

Quail is still open!
Red Rabbit replied to mbiewer's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Waiting for rain to help with scenting conditions. Mearns are on hold as Thanksgiving weekend was tough. Might try for some Gambels this weekend for the first time this year as it is raining today. -
