Desert muleys, never tire of them. Very nice bucks. Welcome to the site.

Actually, it makes perfect sense if G&F is trying to increase hunter opportunity. ERB hunts run about 90% success as opposed to LRB being 20-30%. Every tag taken from ERB can put 3-4 tags in the LRB hunt without affecting the annual take. Hunt quality for the late crowd definitely would suffer.

These *&%$# are always looking for something to ban. Are they bored or power hungry or just egomaniacs? Just manage the herds and the birds and quit trying to define fair chase. My guess is G&F is "fishing". Probably looking to increase hunter opportunity at the expense of a quality experience.

Interesting. Have not heard of any group advocating change with regard to archery/muzzleloader equipment here in AZ.
-
Just a WAG but maybe they (USFS, BLM) are propagating a threatened/endangered plant?
-
Muzzle loader and archery tackle was considerably less capable when experimental seasons were granted many years ago. Unsure where AZGF is going with this discussion. Could be they are discussing muzzleloaders w/o scopes, no inlines, no sabot's. Unsure how they'd handle the archery side. Definitely not a fan of separating the archery crowd by wheel/ non wheel. Archers are one group.

Did the commissioners define primitive muzzleloader/primitive archery equipment?

Going from 15x58 to 12x50. Will I regret it?
Swivelhead replied to kennyazman's topic in Optics and tripods
If possible, hang on to your 15's and acquire the 12's. No such thing as too many optics. -
If you get the chance to hunt Namibia... you won't regret it

Very nice, thx for posting. -

Catalina Mountain sheep relocation: Good Video!
Swivelhead replied to Lv2hnt's topic in Bighorn Sheep Hunting
Thx for posting that link. Definitely a good feeling watching the sheep bolt from the trailers into the hills. -
I think the ABA's approach, i.e. polling the early rifle/muzzy crowd on what they'd like to see is the correct course of action. Don't see them giving up the late Sept, early Oct. dates. Especially with all the scouters they'll get to meet should their hunt dates change to the week prior to the archery opener.

100% natural. Not sure why it triggers anger within me but it does. I never tire of smokin' yotes.

Cool taking a trip down memory lane. Thx. for posting, good luck on the sheep tag.
-
Jeez, so much for my ability to judge sheep. It'd be cool to hear the story if the hunter would allow it .............

Agree but it is fun to guess scores. Very nice ram

Beautiful ram. I'll guess 172 +/- , I'd go higher but looks like he's got a tight curl. Looks old to me.

The fact that there are relatively few early rifle/muzzle loader tags leads me to believe that this change will not have too much effect on the archery hunt. I believe the early rifle/muzzle loader tag holders will be very unappreciative of all the early archery tag holders out pre-scouting during their hunt dates. Wonder what the early rifle/muzzy crowd think of this proposal. Doubt they want to give up their premium dates (late Sept-early Oct) either. Not sure whats going on. Again, I say leave it alone but as an archer, I don't think it's a big deal as proposed. Sent my .02 to the AZGF

Wonder what's really driving this proposed change. I say leave it alone.

Got one myself. Apparently they sent out a bunch. Filled it out & sent it back. Interested to see what becomes of it.

Thought it would be appropriate to discuss the fundamentals of long range archery prior to discussing it's relevance to bow hunting. Bear with me as I have preconceived notions as to how it's done and obviously don't think it is good for the future of bowhunting. I'd ask that we all keep it civil while discussing the physics & techniques involved. Should you feel the need to vent ...... that's OK too. Hope those of you who do practice & hunt long range will chime in to educate those of us who are unfamiliar with the process. Without input from LR guys this thread will be a real yawner. At this point, it would be best to talk strictly about equipment required and practice techniques involved. Equipment: 1) You shoot a well tuned, smokin' fast bow. Likely a Hoyt. 2) High quality arrows, not necessarily light but have a lot of weight FOC, 20% or more. 3) Minimal fletching with an expandable, primarily for a high ballistic coefficient. 2) Peep on the string, bow sight is a single pin on a distance marked adjustable cam, marked for your set up. Likely, you keep it at 30-40 yards until a longer opportunity presents itself. 4) Top quality rangefinder with angle compensation. Shooting/Practice: 1) You practice a lot, target, field, 3-D, roving, etc. 2) You don't have target panic. (yet) 3) ? Likely, I missed a number of things. How do you guys do it?

Actually, not all hunt #'s made it out of the bonus round. #6051, the early hunt in 6A/22 went to max point holders in the bonus round (2 tags). The 2nd hunt #6052 in 6A/22 (2 tags) 1 went in the bonus round and the other was drawn with 7 points.
-
All of them have sheep and all RMBS hunt #'s had tags make it out of the bonus round last draw. Likely all the 6A/22 tags will go in the bonus round being that it's all one hunt # this year. Study the BP reports and roll the dice! Good luck in the draw.

I was hoping this thread would be about equipment, technique, etc. that long range archers use. I did expect to transition into other areas. Not many long range archers participated making this thread the old same, same.
