Where do you keep your bow?

Stopped keeping it in the garage after a couple nocks blew up. My buddy said it was dry rot from the heat. Now they are in the bedroom.
  8. My Dad, my wife and I took our 13 year old son and 11 year old daughter pig hunting this weekend. We picked up pigs early and left my Dad and wife to spot for us. We got in close to them and my son shot his with my Dad's crossbow at about 3 steps and it ran off. The pigs ran all around us, then my daughter rolled hers with her 243 at about 10 yards! We videoed for a few minutes and let my sons pig die and then tracked it into a pig tunnel in the brush. Then I came face to face with a pig popping his teeth at me! He ran a few yards up a bank and my son made another good shot and the old boar still ran and then dove off of a little cliff into a hole! My daughter and I laughed as we watched my son try to fish his pig out of this hole in the rocks. We had a long pack out and then enjoyed the rest of our weekend as a family staying warm by the fire and glassing pigs. This was my sons 5th pig and his first crossbow kill! It was my daughters second pig and her closest pig encounter at about 5 feet! Thanks again Game and Fish for another fun youth season!!

What was your first hunting rifle?

My grandpa gave me his husquevarna 30-06. He is in his 90's now and still doing well. Killed my first two elk and first deer with it as a kid. My dad gave me an old single shot 20g that we hunted birds with. Then for my 16th Bday he got me a new rem870 12g. Best Bday present I could have ever expected. Still have all of them in the gun cabinet.

    WTB rangefinder for son

I am pretty sure I have an older bushnell rangefinder you can give to your son. I get off work in the morning and will get it out and make sure it still works fine. It has been in a box in the garage for awhile. I will be home after a soccer game around lunch time and will shoot you a text.

    Youth pack?

When my kids did their first pig hunts at 10, we just had them carry a very small backpack that had a bottle of water and a couple snacks. I would carry the rest. That way they could walk and glass all day if needed. Make it fun and take pics along the way. At 12, a good friend gave my son a youth pack frame. He carried his own water and food. Then packed out his own pig in it. This year he used the same pack frame to haul about 30-40lbs of elk meat on two different hunts! Very proud of him!

Rifle hunt during Dec archery hunt

Had a guy shoot a buck that I was stalking a few years ago. The guy did not know I was there. The buck was only 50 yards up hill from me when he was shot. Watched the hide ripple from the bullet as I pissed myself a little! I walked up to the buck with the shooter. He was apologetic. Like a dummy I would do it again.

My son's elk and deer 2015

My 13 year old son drew a cow tag and a deer tag this year. He has had a great 2015 year. Him and his sister killed pigs in February (his 4th). He shot a big turkey in April. Killed his second elk in October. Then killed his second muley last week (his 4th buck in AZ). He is a great shot and has really grown into a great hunter. He proved his patience this month... Mom and little sister spotted for us from across the valley. We got on elk quick with their help. He laid in the rocks for about 30 minutes with a big bull screaming at his cows before he could shoot. He waited for a good broadside shot and did well. Then packed about 40 pounds of his elk meat out over a mile! Mom and sister made the hike up to us to make a one trip pack out. He had basketball on Thursday before his deer hunt opened, so we left home at 9pm and drove all night to make the opener. He passed a smaller buck first thing, then I found his buck in his bed. He did not have a good view of the vitals, so we watched him for 3 hours before he stood. Of course he stood facing us, then quartering to us, then finally broadside, I heard the safety click off... Then the buck bedded again! My boy rolled over and said,"Are you serious!" We laughed for a little while and his buck took a nice nap for another hour. Finally he stood and turned slightly quartering away and he dropped him at 313yds! His season is over, now he gets to be the spotter for some coues hunts!

    Hunting 36c this weekend!

We just stay in the open. Not in any low spots or washes that are travelled. Leave some bottled water out, they will leave everything else alone. The drug runners are usually deeper in the hills anyways. Solo in 36c won't be an issue for camping. Should be a good hunt with this weather!!

    Kaibab Ammo Question

I just got the ammo for my son today. Game and fish offices have a limited supply on hand. I just called and picked from the list they had in the office. Took them the card and they gave me his ammo. I also went to Sportsmans and they had a list behind the counter that was different than what I got in the mail. But they were out of what was "free".
