WRONG..#2 is the smallest.... I stand corrected! I was semi right, however. I figured them all 320-330ish bulls
-
Glad you at least asked for am explaination
-
#2 is biggest. For sure

I have a bull on the wall that scores a little north of 400" as well as one that went mid 370's. Outside of an early rifle tag, i would not pass a shot on a TRUE 350" on any day of the hunt. Hearing the "350" number almost makes me cringe, as most people have no idea how big a 350" bull is.

Anyone have a good wild Turkey recipe???
GreyGhost85 replied to Big Browns's topic in Cooking Wild Foods
cut it into strips or nuggets, soak it in some cold salt water for a few hours. bread it and fry it. It is delicious cooked this way and you still taste the flavor of the bird, unlike marinating and brining. -
If you are dissatisfied, have him remove the antlers and give them back. You could have a good, reputable taxidermist mount them on a good cape. You have already waited 2.5 years, what's another 6 months? There are plenty of great taxidermists that advertise on this website that i am sure would be more than happy and accomodating to right this wrong situation
-
I didn't want to go here, but if that was my elk, i would not pay for the mount. I have heard a lot of horror stories about R&R. It looks like he mounted your antlers on a spike cape, and a bad one at that. The neck is waaay too skinny for a mature bull and looks as if it just finished a chemo treatment. I know it's not what you wanted to hear. I however, am very critical on my taxidermy work. You work your butt off to take that animal, pay top dollar and wait up to a few years to get the mount back. You should expect nothing less than a piece of art that you can be proud to hang and display for a lifetime. Just my 2 cents and please take no offense to my comment

i would say something definitely happened to the cape. who's fault it was, you may never know. sometimes the hunter does not get the cape cooled off quick enough, sometimes the taxidermist lets it thaw and spoil, sometimes the tannery can over brush them. a taxidermist knows the quality of the cape though, and they should let you know if the quality is suspect before completing the mount.

did his cape slip on you? maybe it's just me, but he looks really mangy and his mane is really really thin? it is a pretty rack though. congrats on the kill. that turnaround time is unacceptable, no matter what issues the guy is having

Hunting with an order of protection - Questions/Thoughts needed

Isn't this whole thread about a woman kicking a man when he's down? I love this thread, was glad to see it's resurrection. It is always good for a few laughs -
You are a complete fool

been out of it for a couple months due to working out of state, can't wait to get back in there. Lifting is the #1 part of my fitness routine. It is very addicting. starting in the next week i'll back in the LA fitness in queen creek/gilbert 4-5 days a week.

How big do you think this buck is?
GreyGhost85 replied to double lunger14's topic in Antelope Hunting
they will still grow a little bit. they shed their horns in november/december i believe and they start growing back almost immediately. if a buck is going to end up big in august/september, he'll already look big, if that makes sense? -
no. not even close. some people believe anything, i swear. Although, there are a couple species of deer that i believe are endemic to somewhere in Asia that do grow small tusks. i think one is a japanese water deer, another is a muntjac. they don't grow much for antlers, if any, so they have small tusks for self defense
-
Up until probably 15-20 years ago, if a buck's mainbeam length was greater than his spread, or vise-versa, it was a deduction.
-
that is one of the variables. the antlers would probably have to be sawed off below the burr
-
For years people have been bringing up a "water submersion test" for scoring. You fill a certain sized container with water, submerge the rack and however much the water rises would be the score. This test would account for every bump of bone that the animal grows. Seems like it would be a good system to me, but there would probably be too many variables. Your system does have interesting results, however

Looking to build a big 33 and have some questions

But then you have to shoot a weatherby. I own a 338 lapua. Something about squeezing the trigger on a 300 grain bullet really makes me smile. If you want a big 338 caliber, go for it. Don't let anyone push you away from it. -
I reeeaaalllyyy don't need it, but...someone hurry up and buy it please

I've never owned swaros in my life. Ask all the big animals on my wall if they knew the difference in swarovski and vortex....just sayin..... Get yourself a decent pair of 15X binos and teach yourself how to glass. Once your eyes crave something with better clarity, upgrade

murfy, you need to dust that poor old mount! i see bucks every January that would break 180". i honestly think OTC archery hunts can be some of your best bets to kill a true giant. you get to hunt great units in the absolute best times of the year
