Well Done Jason! I know you put forth an endless amount of effort into this hunt and you earned your trophy. A once in a life time tag like this kind of consumes a guy from the time you get the successfull letter until you get home from the hunt.... tag filled or not. I knew you would get nice one. Great job on taking pictures and documenting your hunt. Congrats on your deer. Have you put a tape to him yet?

Very nice. One of my goals is to take two trophies on one hunt. Congrats!

Sounds like lots of hunters are in full swing of workouts and eating right. Im stuck out of town working so Im hitting the hills every chance I get. I look for the steapest highest mountain I think I can handle each particular day and dont quit until i conquer it, found a mule deer shed today. The combo of hiking and eating food with no sugar or carbs I have lost weight and feel great! Vegasjeep, I feel for you on having a bumb ankle. About three years ago I shatterd my ankle, I now have a pin a plate and seven screws holding my bones together. For the most part it never bothers me unless its really cold out. It took about a year and a half before I felt comfortable hiking in steep Coues type country. My best advice it to get an eleptical and dont try to rush your recovery. They are alot easier on your joints than running on a tredmill. They are also good for people who have bad backs. I have one at home and I love it. Nice Bucks you found today, hopfully you get one down this year!

I was at Sportsmans the other day looking at scopes for my 30-06. I really like Vortex products and have narrowed it down to either the 3-9x40 Diamondback or the 4-12x40 Diamondback. I like the reticle in the 3-9x40 that has the tick marks for hold over shots. I like the power that the 4-12x40 will provide just has fixed dead hold reticle. What is more important having the extra power or a reticle with the tick marks? Also has anyone used either of these scopes?

I dont really know much about scopes. If you can please educate me what BDC and MOA stand for?

If your as quick with a bow as you are with a camera you will tag out for sure. Good Luck! -
7550 KW TROY BILT WITH A BRIGGS AND STRATTON MOTOR. 1 120/240 VOLT 30 AMP PLUG AND 4 120 VOLT 20 AMP PLUGS. ELECTRIC START. ONLY HAS BEEN RAN A COUPLE OF HOURS. THIS IS A BIGGER GENERATOR WOULD BE IDEAL FOR A CONTRACTOR OR A BACKUP FOR A SOLAR SYSTEM OR FOR SOMEONE WHO NEEDS A LITTLE EXTRA POWER IN THE FIELD. $700 WOULD BE WILLING TO TRADE FOR HUNTING EQUIPTMENT, OPTICS, GUNS, TOOLS, ECT...

Three shots to get dialed in at 1000 yards thats impressive! A 7mm or a 300 win mag topped with a nice scope and turret will be my next big investment for sure.

I'm sure that this topic has been beat to death but tis the season so I figured I would stir it up. I know it takes good glass on a tripod to find more deer (got that one coverd). The past couple of years I have hunted with a buddie who has a nack for finding deer. I dont know if he will be going this year so I need to step it up. I just have a few questions for the pro's out there. I will be hunting higher in evevation in steep canyon country in late October. When glassing in the morning/evening what slopes do you concentrate on (north, south, east, west)? If your not seeing deer how long do you usually spend glassing one particular area before moving to a different vantage point? Who has had luck with staying out and waiting for the deer to go to water and move into different shade in the middle of the day? Any other tips that might help in finding more deer? Thanks

+1 and maybe even extra water, small sleeping bag to wait a big buck till the next morning Thats hard core It would have to be a big buck for me to wait him out away from camp. Who has stayed at thier glassing spot and waited until morning to take a big buck?

Well looks like everyone has thier own strategy, but in the end they are where they are........hopfully on the choping block at the end of the hunt! Lost of good advice and good luck to all! P.S I have a hunting buddie who is 49 and manages to kill 100"+ deer 100% of the time! So who says that our elderly folk cant still get it done? Good job Begay! A good piece of advice for you... Perhaps, you can leave the hunting to your 49 year old buddy. while he is out you can pick up his house and do his laundry. I know that I always enjoy a warm meal after I get home from a day of hunting...so maybe that will work, as well. I hope this was helpful advice. It would very hard to beat Begay's wife at the homemaking skills so I think I would rather hunt. Hey congrats on your 22 archery deer tag!

PM SENT. TELL YOUR SON "GOOD LUCK" THAT SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD TAG!

I use Nikon Monarch 10X42 they are dourable and have not let me down. But if I were to get another pair to wear around my neck in the $200-$300 price range I would get the Weaver 12x50's I looked through some of my buddies last winter, they are not too touchey to free hand and on the tripod thier performance is not too shabby.

That is one of my favorate lakes a bit off of the beaten path but well worth the drive! I'll be taking my 3 year old up there this summer for his first real fishing trip.

Sounds like Bob Vila style is a better way to go red flanel and blue jeans!
