anyone interested in Adele tickets for tonight?
rossislider replied to levers's topic in Classified Ads
If I had any say you would be banned from this site. First, for buying Adele tickets (at any price). Second, for admitting it. Third, trying to sell them on a hunting web site. -
Use your average. Do not use the manufacturer's numbers! Those numbers are averages from different rifles with many factors coming into play that are going to be very different from what you are shooting. They offers those numbers to give you an idea, but will never be true to every, or even most, rifles.

I apologize that I keep throwing out the Jay Scott podcast, but they have fantastic information. In an episode from last week with Kuiu founder Jason Hairston, Jay asked about this. When Jason does his long multiple day hunts he only takes two pairs and rotates them each day so the other pair has time to dry/air out. Seems logical to me if trying to minimize gear and weight.

Is AZGFD giving out our personal information?
rossislider replied to AZhuntingfamily's topic in The Campfire
i cant imagine that selling our info and tag prices are correlated in the slightest. I can't imagine why not. There are operating cost to any organization. A big chunk of that money for AZGFD comes through licenses, tags, application fees, etc., but it all goes to the bottom line. If they don't get the required money from one place, they will get it from another. Every dollar gained or spent in one place has a direct impact on another. The money from selling tag information may not be big money, but it all adds up. Now if you want to debate the main problem of many posters on this site relating to AZGFD, which is a blind hatred for anything AZGFD related, than that is a different discussion entirely. -
Is AZGFD giving out our personal information?
rossislider replied to AZhuntingfamily's topic in The Campfire
I guess I see this differently than some of you. Yes, absolutely AZGFD sells this information and yes outfitters, taxidermists, etc buy it. We may not like it, and It may not be how many of us would prefer these organizations do business, but I don't see it being unethical in any way as they disclose the fact that they sell the information and make no attempt to hide it. But bottom line for me personally is, if getting an extra couple of pieces of junk mail can help keep my app fee and tag prices down, I'm all for it. -

I've heard a few top guides on the Jay Scott podcast mention the sock layering system mentioned above about using a thin pair of dress socks. I've also heard that Fox River makes some really good socks, but I have not tried them yet. Check out the podcast episode 158 about footwear.

I use the ProChrono and have been very happy with it. It has be very accurate and consistent. When I bought it several years ago I looked at several good ones, but opted for this as it seemed to have very high reviews across multiple websites. I've seen several of the other one mentioned in use, and they also seem to be pretty good options. https://www.amazon.com/Competition-Electronics-ProChrono-Digital-Chronograph/dp/B0028MTBJ4 http://www.midwayusa.com/product/852429/competition-electronics-prochrono-digital-chronograph http://www.chuckhawks.com/pro-chrono.htm Regardless of which one you get, follow Lance's advice and be sure to shot at long distances to validate your velocity and the data you get from your ballistic program.

They got a list of everyone who drew tags and are putting them on jury duty. A new tactic of the PETA crowd. Two words, CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE! Under normal circumstances I'd say go. It's an interesting experience and a civic responsibility. But in your case, no chance in heck I'd show up for this. People no show all the time. Just don't ever contact them and give them proof you received the summons and you have nothing to worry about.

Awesome ram! I love that he doesn't let the antis scare him every time a hunting picture of him gets out and they call for a boycott. I genuinely believe that 99.99% of them lack the moral backbone to follow through, and call for boycotts as they stuff their faces with delicious subs. It is the Kanye/Kardashian principle, all attention is good attention, even if it appears bad on the surface.

I'm pretty certain they are the same thing. I think they recently changed they was they do their model numbers.

I tried a Caldwell's and returned it. The quality difference was substantial between Harris and Caldwell. When you headed to WY? If the dates work and don't coincide with my son's hunts, you can take them and try them, or just borrow for a weekend to try. I have a 9-13 HBLMS and a 13-27 HB25CS.

I've got a couple of different sizes. For WY antelope I would go with 13-1/2 to 27". My wife used it last year in WY and it was perfect with all the grass up there.

Differences in Swarovski "Generations"
rossislider replied to PelaPapas's topic in Optics and tripods
This is probably an over simplification, but in addition to minor cosmetic and functionality changes, with each generation the glass tends to get progressively clearer, brighter, etc. But this isn't always the case. Take for example the new 2016 EL line up. The glass didn't change. The only major change was the harness attachment point. Are there two particular generation you are looking at? You might check with the guys at Outdoorsmans or Dave (azelkhunter2). They have all been super helpful in educating me. -
They're looking for RUM ammo. It is RUM ammo. Look at the top of the chart. Remington is using the chart to show what it would be compared to. It is their old marketing strategy for the power level ammo.
-
I have 7 rounds of the "Power Level 2" Scirocco 300 RUM ammo highlighted in red below. I'd be happy to trade it for some brass. Located in Queen Creek or Tempe.

"How did I live without it?" Hunting Gear

Does anyone know if outdoorsman makes one that fits Vortex 15s? Didn't see one on their website... I'm pretty sure it is the same one that fits the Swaro SLCs. I'm sure there is one. Give the Outdoorsman's a call. -

Been meaning to look into some trekking poles for extra support with a bad knee and ankle. Any particular type you recommend? -

Here is another one. No bait is better when fishing with kids than power bait. It is simple, effective, stays on the hook, and has a longer shelf life than worms. But I hate scooping it our with my finger because it is a pain to wipe/wash off at the lake. A friend tipped me off to cutting the top off of one of my kid's medicine syringes. Stick it in the powerbait, give it a couple twists, and pull it out. Smash your treble hook in, squirt it all out, and you are good to go. I unfortunately discovered you could already buy them this way before I could patent it. http://www.sportsmanswarehouse.com/sportsmans/Danielson-Dough-Bait-Mait/productDetail/Dough-Bait/prod9999005433/cat101115?ref=google?utm_source=google&utm_medium=shoppingfeeds&utm_term=417283&utm_campaign=GDF&gdffi=956ae87823e94c98adceb63322121bc0&gdfms=D88E360BCF7E4DFF9F574F2843C4E2CD&gclid=Cj0KEQjwuJu9BRDP_-HN9eXs1_UBEiQAlfW39oUu9JuAvEfD7WUq3VlOmifgqTEdoGwx58VqwvrHkwYaAs058P8HAQ -

Even though 90% of the people in here are already familiar with it, I'm going to also throw the Outdoorsman's bino stud and bino/tripod mounting system. It was a total game changer for me when I discovered it several years ago. https://outdoorsmans.com/collections/tripod-accessories -
The process of doing it yourself is pretty intimidating at first, but once you dive into it you will learn it really isn't that bad. You can find a plethora of great videos on youtube that will teach you everything you need to know step by step. You can probably also find the archived episode of Meat Eater where Steve taught step by step how to process a deer. You can get a really good grinder (I have a 3/4 hp LEM) and most of the supplies you will need for $400-500. You will get that money back in one season if you have to process more than one animal. Your quality and meat yield will go up and you won't have to wait on your meat. I started out just doing steaks, roasts, and burger. I've been doing it a few years now and have added jerky, various sausages, brats, etc to the mix. Planning to experiment and learn to do summer sausages this fall if my son if fortunate to get his cow elk and deer. Give it a try, worse case scenario is you miss cut some meat and end up with a little bit more burger than steaks and roasts. Also, I highly recommend a pair of cut resistant gloves, both for in the field and kitchen. I personally tend to get slicing pretty quick and with disposable knife blades being as sharp as they are, it doesn't take much to gash yourself pretty good. I'm terrible about slicing my hands up. These lightweight $10 gloves are fantastic and have definitely saved me from a few stitches. https://www.amazon.com/NoCry-Cut-Resistant-Gloves-Performance/dp/B00MXUHHGK/ref=sr_1_1?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1470601599&sr=1-1 Here are a couple of links to some past threads with tips, recipes, etc: http://www.coueswhitetail.com/forums/topic/56953-sausage-fest-and-meat-grinder-review/?hl=sausage http://www.coueswhitetail.com/forums/topic/41672-sweet-mesquite-coues-jerky-time/?hl=%2Bsweet+%2Bmesquite
