I helped my dad and brother on their HAM hunt a week and a half ago. I didn't have a tag, I just went along to help. We first spotted the pigs at about 8:30 about a half mile or so away. They were on the move but just before they went out of sight they started to slow and feed a little. We went around and headed towards where we could head them off. We got there at about 9:15 and relocated them about ten minutes later. My dad was using his TC in .223. He has dedicated a lot of time in the last few years working up some deadly handloads for it, and it is money. Last year he dropped his pig in its tracks at 125 yards with it. My brother was using my dad's Encore in 7mm BR which he also worked up some good handloads for. We set up the tripods to shoot from. My brother took the first shot, it was a little far back but the pig was hit good and was barely moving. He took another shot and missed. My dad pulled out his TC and the scope was loose . My brother already had another round loaded so he handed him the Encore. My dad fired and nailed one. We were about 175 yds away. I stayed on the pigs with the glasses while my dad and brother moved into about 100 yds. Once they sat there I moved up with them. In the past we would have made the mistake of going after them too soon. Thanks to what I have learned from you guys/gals I knew we had to just make sure they weren't moving and give them some time to bleed. We sat and kept an eye on them and ate snacks for an hour. During that time my dad's pig tried to move, but was hurt really bad and couldn't move too well. He put one more round in the pig from where we were and he drilled him. The pig rolled and kicked for just a few more seconds and was done. After the hour had gone by and we hadn't seen my brothers pig move we decided that I would stay back as a spotter as they crossed through the bottom and up the other side. They were within about 15 yards of the pig when he tried to make a move. They didn't see him but I yelled "pig, pig, pig!!!!!" and they found him pretty quickly trying to sneak away. He was hurt bad and wouldn't have made it far. My brother finished him off and the celebrating started. Actually, that's when the work started. I can't believe how bad those things stink. We did the gutless method and took the quarters and the backstraps. This was my brothers first javi and he was super stoked and I am so happy for him. I can't think of another hunt that was better than this one even though I wasn't even hunting. I really wanted to help my brother get his first pig and I was so glad that it all came together and my dad was there with his two sons to share in the experience. I have to say thanks to all of you because I have learned a lot in the past few years from reading your detailed hunt stories and I feel like I am light years ahead of where I was even just a few years ago as far as knowledge. I hope I wasn't too long winded. Here's the best pic. My brother Jeff and my dad Scott Thanks for reading, Daryl

My bro in law filled his javelina tag Tuesday morning about 8:50. His second day of hunting in his entire life. He still hasn't come down from the clouds yet. The pics turned out pretty gruesome and we didn't get very good ones. Suffice it to say that there will be no saving the skull and the javelina never knew what hit it. He was serious when today he asked me how do I make it all the way into the fall without getting to hunt . Guess I'm gonna have to take him varmint hunting . G & F owes me big time because he's hooked and he's gonna be hunting for a lot of years now. Warning........pretty graphic "as we found it" pic: How fitting is the "Death Dealer" hat ??

Lets hear it!!!! Any hunting story is a good story. Plus, the handgun hunting section needs more love.

That is so cool!! Congrats to Angie on a bunch of firsts. Maybe she can call my wife and convince her that hunting is pretty cool and get her to go with me.

You girls are awesome!!! My daughter is only 4 and I can't wait until I can take her on her own hunting trips. For now she is enjoying her 3 foot Barbie fishing pole .

Great job Nick!!!! The hunts with family and friends are by far the best. You'll remember that hunt for the rest of your life. Way to drop that javelina.

I really would like to make it this year. I have never been but just reading about last years event and looking at the pictures it looks like a great family outing with a lot of good people. I'll have to start planning for it now and make it a priority. -
I have been fighting the trail camera urge for the longest time. You guys post these awesome pictures and videos and it just keeps getting harder and harder for me. I know if I get one I will end up putting way too much time and money into it. Anyways, keep them coming cause I really enjoy them. And Yes, Lion.

I was in the Mesa store a few days ago and one of the guys at the gun counter was pretty helpful about the whole situation. He said that the bank is the holdup right now and that the deal hasn't gone through yet. But who knows.......I'm sure they all have their own versions of the story. It's too bad too, cause I'm gonna be lookin to purchase a .40 cal here in the next few days. I would like to buy from them but I kow that they don't have what i want in stock. -
Thanks Gino. I'm glad to know the pack is getting used. Dad's stayin busy mostly helpin others. He's fishin for crappie at San Carlos with his brother who's visiting from out of town, tomorrow it's the drags at Firebird and Saturday pig huntin....it's a great time of year. My bro in law has a rifle tag that we're gonna try to fill on Saturday. It's his first hunt of any kind and he's super stoked which makes me super stoked to try and help him bag his first game of any kind. We'll post it up if we can pull it off.

Okay.....you guys are slamming diamondbackaz big time when all he has tried to imply is be careful with how you go about the situation. Hunterdude......you are putting all kinds of words and scenarios up trying to imply what kind of person he is, do you even know him??? READ what he has written.

I just can't get over how awesome that buck looks!!!!! I keep going back to look at the pictures again. It looks great as a desktop background. -

I feel like, for whatever reason, my odds are better of getting the lower draw percentage hunts if I put in alone. This past year was the first that I did and also the first year that I drew a Dec WT tag. My dad also drew a Dec WT tag and he was permit 40 out of 40. If I was on the app then, as RedRabbit pointed out, he would not have drawn that tag.

I love the setup for the picture. Good job on the yote.
