My suggestion is to get a good topo program, look it over, pick out 5 or 6 spots to check out, go down there and see which looks the best. There are a lot of access issues but the G & F website tells you all about that. The best place to start is the G&F website. The issue with UDA's isn't different than any other southern border unit. I have been out scouting twice down there and haven't seen a single uda. I suggest you don't go alone or at least carry a sidearm. It's a great unit with deer all over the place. Get out, glass and you'll find deer.

A change of pace for ALL CWT members
daryl_s replied to Kilimanjaro's topic in Non-hunting trip reports
Not too long ago Outdoor Writer posted that he had an extra ticket to the Dbacks game for whoever wanted to go. I was the lucky one who ended up going and had a great time. Thanks again Tony, I hope you come back and keep posting. Also, Gamehauler did a great job fixing up our pop up trailer a few months ago and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend anybody to him. Even though I only know about 4 people on this site in person I feel like in a way I know almost all of you. There are a ton of great people here. Hopefully I can make it to the next CW.com get together. -
Great bull and even better story. Thanks for sharing it with us.

How many are hunting the Nov. 36A whitetail hunt
daryl_s replied to AzTrapper's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
We will be camping in 36B and C in December. We somehow both got lucky and drew late tags for those two units. We will hunt together and split the time between the 2 units because it's not a good idea to be down there by yourself. -
Very good to know. Thanks for the heads up. Everyone knows you can count on Swaro, but good to hear that about Remington also.

Pretty good buck

Pretty average buck I'd say . -
What a Joke.......
daryl_s replied to Coues 'n' Sheep's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
I was in the grocery store the other day and noticed it in the magazine headlines while waiting in line. One read "Obama: My life with my girls" and some captioning about sitting in the front row at dance recitals. Another magazine headline read "Sarah Palin: Lies, deceit and scandal" or something to that effect. They are trying so hard to influence our views. The worst part about it is that it is so obvious. I am a union member(apprentice wireman)........and a registered republican. It seems like so many people need to be told what to think. The interesting thing to me is that even though about 95% of all union members are democrat I am not hearing too much about the people I work with liking Obama. -

Very cool!!! I will definitely stop by. -
I went out today for my first scouting trip of the season. I mostly wanted to check out the access issues in my unit(36C). My dad came over to my house early this morning and we headed out and got down there a little before 8 am. We had the topos printed out with about 5 different access points and areas highlighted that we planned on checking out. We stopped to do a little glassing not really planning on hitting this first spot too hard. He's glassing in one direction and I'm glassing in the other. After about 10 minutes I pick up a deer but it was just a doe. Then another doe right after that. They were up and feeding so I start scanning the area for more movement and pick up another deer. Right away it seemed different because the coat was more tan as opposed to the gray color of the two does. The deer had it's head down feeding and then all of a sudden the head comes up and all that I see is antlers. My heart starts racing because I knew right away this a great buck. My dad wastes no time in getting his Swaro 15's up. He says "What are you talkin' about??? That's a dink!!!!" I hadn't even noticed a small forkie about 100 feet to the left. I got him on the right buck and we were both excited. I don't consider myself a trophy hunter but it took me over 10 years to draw my first late tag so I'm planning on using it on a good buck. I would not hesitate to use my tag on this buck opening morning. I really hope to ground check this guy sometime between Dec12-31. We ranged him at 526 yards. Under the circumstances we would have been able to close in about 200 yards had it been in season. If you save the picture and zoom in you can get a pretty good idea of his size. I am not a good field judge, all I know is that I would definitely use my tag on this one. Here's another angle I am not the master coues hunter that most of you guys/gals are but I just try to get a little smarter everytime I go out. Most of my learning has come on blown oppurtunities. We are going to keep scouting some other areas and also see if we can't relocate him another day and keep an eye on him. Hopefully he's still there for us in December.

Congrats!!! I can only dream of harvesting a deer with a bow.
-
If you get him before I do I'll be the first to give you a big high five. Just promise me you'll let me handle those antlers . I'm just still super stoked that I finally got a late tag. I am looking forward to hunting as many days as I can if that's what it takes to find a good caliber buck. I feel very optimistic about where I plan on hunting even if that guy doesn't make it to Dec. I know there are other big bucks in that area. It is sooooooo green down there I couldn't believe it. I think the bowhunters have already shown us that antler growth has been great this year. Good luck to all you 36C tag holders.

Wow. You are the man!!!! Every time a new season of a different species comes around I am counting on a story and pics of the successful hunt from you. Keep up the good work.

Congrats on a very fine buck. Looking forward to your son's story.

What's Your Projectile Launcher?
daryl_s replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I'm hoping my Ruger M77 in .270 with a Leupold VXI 4-14x40 will harvest it's first big game animal in 36C sometime between December 12-31 of this year. I will be shooting Hornady 130 grain interbond. -
You would be lookin at close to $600 out the door for a brand new XD after taxes plus all the paperwork that was already mentioned. I sold mine and wish I still had it. I think $450 for an almost new one is a fair price.
-
He absolutely hammered that ball!!! As soon as he hit it you knew it was gone.....and to the deepest part of the park.
-
Thanks again Tony for inviting me to tag along!!! The outcome wasn't quite what we hoped for but it was still a great time. Daryl

Wow!!!!! Just hearing your story makes me furious. Who is this guy to freeze YOUR money because he doesn't agree with your language???? I work very hard for the money I make and someone else messing with it would get me worked up real quick. I would immediately close out everything and check into any possible legal ramifications that could result. I hope it gets straightened out for you very soon.

I just talked to her and she understands . It looks Davis is pitching Friday and Haren Saturday but it doesn't matter to me I love any Dbacks game.

That's a smokin' deal. If I needed a pair I would be all over that.
