Congratulations, that's an awesome buck.

This year in the October hunt in 36B I watched a doe and her fawn bed down about 75 yards from a very heavily traveled dirt road. A truck parked right between her and the road and even when 5 hunters jumped out of the truck she never moved. Almost all the deer I saw on opening day(all does) kicked up within 50 yards of me when I was walking. Also in the 36B hunt about 7 years ago my dad jumped a 100"+ buck less a 1/4 mile from our camp. The buck didn't kick up until my dad was just a few steps away from him. He was able to make a succesfull shot in time. I think that the deer don't really move farther out in most cases. I think that they mostly just hold tighter. Even so I still like to get away from the other hunters. I get pretty frustrated when I see hunters all over the place even when I know that there are deer in the area.

Hey Casey, I think that's cool that you got a deer even if it was a small one. Just think of all the people that didn't tag out that given the chance would take you r deer over no deer. Heck, I would've shot a spike opening morning. Congrats

I know the topic is getting old and is political but either way it affects us southern hunters and hopefully talking about it will help someone avoid a possible bad situation. Why shouldn't we talk about it if it is directly related to our hunting??? When my brother and I got our deer Saturday morning my dad carried 3 rifles back to the quads while my brother and I carried my deer. We left the first deer at the quads with my dad and headed back for the other deer. My dad stayed to skin the deer in the meantime. When my brother and I were coming over a hill with the deer we could see about 100 illegals walking single file right to where my dad was with the quads!! I told my brother that I hoped my dad had his rifle handy just in case. Right before they got to where he was the trail that they were on split to the East a little. They literally walked within less than a hundred feet of him without ever seeing him. We told him about it when we got back and he said that he put the rifles away before skinning the deer and while he was skinning he got this feeling that maybe he should get his rifle back out. Well he had it out and ready. He actually heard them walking by but never saw them. What if he had the rifles put away and they walked up to him???? He would have been completely at their mercy. It's a real bad situation down there and it's a political one, but to completely avoid the topic is unreasonable. This was an experience we had while HUNTING, so I am going to mention it when talking about HUNTING and I hope that maybe it will be of a benefit to someone else when they think twice before going out all alone. I know that based on the experiences from my last HUNTING trip I definitely will not go out there alone and I hope that nobody else does either.

My brother and I got our deer Saturday morning in 36B. It was my brother's first deer and my second. They're not huge but we were both very happy to get them. The deer were plenty fat and it took us 2 trips to get them back to the quads. The deer were together and we got them both at the same time. Mine is the 3x3 and my brothers is a 3x2. I hope I did the link correctly, there are 5 pictures posted. http://photobucket.com/albums/c277/daryl_s...unting05010.jpg

I have never in my life put a bumper sticker on my car but I would proudly put a cwt.com sticker on my back window. How can I get one????? I've gotta get one before my oct 28 hunt. -
save the tag, use the socks for wiping. just cut em into pieces. been there, done that.

I spend all day at work daydreaming about my october 36b hunt. I dream about it most nights too. I cant wait. I'll be in a red suburban not far north of the tres bellotas with my dad and brother. If your around there stop in and say hi. I'm not as picky as the rest of you guys so any whitetail with antlers better watch out.

wow, that is an awesome buck!!! I would guess 107. The rack is really cool lookin' and I think it would look even better up on your wall. hope you tag him.

bobcat Concise Encyclopedia Article Page 1 of 1 Bobcat (Felis rufa) Joe Van Wormer/Photo Researchers "Bobtailed, long-legged North American cat (Lynx rufus) found in forests and deserts from southern Canada to southern Mexico. It is a close relative of the lynx and caracal. Bobcats have large paws and tufted ears; are 24?40 in. (60?100 cm) long, excluding the 4?8-in. (10?20-cm) tail; stand 20?24 in. (50?60 cm) at the shoulder; and weigh 15?33 lb (7?15 kg). The fur is pale brown to reddish with black spots. Bobcats are nocturnal and generally solitary. They feed on small mammals and some birds and are important for controlling rodent and rabbit populations. They are sometimes found in suburban areas." I don't know what to think anymore......Does that seem too big to anyone else to be a bobcat????? It sure looks quite a bit larger to me. It has all the right markings to be a bobcat but it just looks too big to me. Either way I think that that is an awesome picture. -

I too thought that was a jaguar at first. That sure is one big bobcat. Also, in the picture of the small buck it looks like a smaller animal in the background running by. Maybe my buck fever is kicking in and making me dilusional. I can't wait till October 28. Awesome pictures. -

remind me to never go swimming in that lake . -
AzGuide... how did you get lucky enough to get off with a warning??? I was up at Jone's Crossing a few weeks ago and at the Long Valley Cafe there was one of those big traffic signs that they put the messages on saying that all off-road vehicles had to be licensed. I'm sure with that big of a sign they weren't planning on giving out any warnings. The best idea in my opinion is to go ahead and license your quad no matter where you plan on using it. Also, I have heard of people being ticketed for riding double and I've heard it's like 500 bucks or something like that. I wouldn't worry too much about that in more remote areas but you never know.

Digital cameras, as well as other electronic devices, aren't too unreasonably priced now days. You should be able to find a good 4.0 megapixel camera for under or right about $200. I love my camera, it is so easy to use and it is extremely easy to upload pictures onto my computer. Digital cameras are so much more convenient than the 35 mm cameras...you get instant feedback, if you don't like the picture you erase it from the camera instantly, there is much more capacity, etc. If you get a 4.0 megapixel camera you should also get at least a 128 MB card. A secure digital 128 MB card costs about 20 bucks. My card holds 64 pictures on the highest resolution. Also, with a lot of digital cameras you can shoot video clips. I always wondered how people were getting such awesome pictures of wildlife through their binos and scopes. I had no idea that it was so simple. I had no idea how "digiscoping works. Thanks for the info everyone, now I can't wait to try it out.

I've checked it out a few times. I tuned in right now just in time to catch a herd of zebras as they were leaving. Also, saw some elephants coming in one time, there was a little baby elephant in the group. Haven't seen much, still hoping to see a lion or something cool like that. Overall it's a pretty neat site. Sometimes I'll keep it open while using another page to browse so that way you still have the sound and you might hear something going on. -
DesertBull could not have said it better, he is right on the money. The work that I do for the gas station is maintenance...including gas dispensers.....I can absolutely assure you that the company that I work for would NEVER gouge or fix pumps to give someone the wrong amount. However, if you think that you are not getting the right amount of gas or that the pump is not calibrated correctly you can call the Arizona department of weights and measures. They take those calls very seriously and they will be at that station doing testing in most cases by the following day. With the price of gas being so high I definitely don't want to pay for gas that I am not getting. It is not uncommon for a pulsar on a pump to go bad causing the calibration to be off and most of the time when they do go bad they give you more gas than you pay for. Anyways, it only takes a few minutes to change out the pulsar, so if a gas station is ripping people off they do get hit with big fines from the state. Here is the link to the site if anybody is interested in checking it out. http://www.azdwm.gov/ All gas stations should have stickers on the gas pumps that have the phone number for weights and measures for people that want to report something.

This gasoline situation is out of control. I can't say too much becuase of confidentiallity rules at work, but I work for a gasoline/convenience retailer here in the valley and my brother in law is a manager at one of the locations here in Mesa. I talked to him this morning and he told me that their last gasoline delivery came at a cost of $3.11 per gallon and they are selling at $2.89 a gallon. So for the time being they are losing $.22 a gallon. That's a significant hit when you sell about 100,000 gallons of gas a week, which his store does sell. Anyways, there's a lot involved in the whole gasoline retail business. My suggestion is to do what Lark mentioned......complain about the other things that they have more control over, like window squeegees. I too have changed my weekend plans....not going to Big Lake. Still goin campin , just not as far.

Scoot, thanks for the info. I just reread what I wrote when I posted this topic and I realized that I made it look like just my wife was going to be at Big Lake. I will be at Big Lake WITH my wife and I want to convince her that we should stay longer, I'm not trying to get rid of her for the weekend
-
I have a question that I'm sure somebody here can answer for me. Does Big Lake still have showers available??? I haven't been there in a few years but I remember being there before and they had a real nice facility there by the campgrounds. They charged $2 for a half hour to use it and they were actually really nice. My wife is going, that's why I want to know.....that way I can talk here into staying longer . Thanks.

Matt- That hunt is my first choice every year and I am yet to get it. I'll be down there in October and yes we are going to camp there. I don't know if I would camp there during the December hunt because there are going to be about 850 less hunters and it is spread out over a longer period of time. The area just north of the Tres Bellotas ranch is really good but it is right on the border. You've got a great tag, good luck. Daryl

I'm not too much in the know but I do maintenance work or a gas retail company here in the valley and they just had us pick up all the price signage that was $1. and in our shop they have all the $3. signs all lined up and ready to go......I guess they must have a good reason for having the new pricing numbers ready. It is just sickening to think of paying so much for gas. Anybody wanna carpool with me down to 36B in late October .

I don't believe any polls that the media puts out. They polled 1200 people out how many millions that are in the United States????? I don't trust the accuracy of polls and I also think that the media manipulates those polls to whatever message that they are trying to get across. As far as immigration goes.....the problem is in Mexico. The Mexican government needs to fix the problems in Mexico. Why aren't people in Canada flooding the Northern border trying to get to the U.S. at all cost???? Another thing that the article mentions is that even the people in Mexico with college degrees want to come here. Once again we go back to the problem of jobs not being available....which takes us back to the government. My father-in-law has a bio-chemical engineering degree in Mexico and teaches basic computer classes at the local technical school. He has a small house and a car that most of the time doesn't run and he is better off than most of the people where he lives. He was born in Mexico, has lived there his whole life and doesn't want to leave. What does a person in The U.S. with a bio-chemical engineering degree make????? I really don't know but I am sure that they are probably pretty well off. The article mentions the "middle class" in Mexico which as anybody who has ever traveled much in Mexico knows that it pretty much doesn't exist. I understand why people from Mexico want to come here but I think that everybody should do it the right way and follow the right legal steps to do so.

Does anyone think Amanda will go for this?
daryl_s replied to BASS's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
I'm in. I prefer the drawings over the pictures for the shirts because I think that they will come out better quality and last longer. I would be interested in hats, shirts, and I especially like the idea of a window sticker for my truck. Daryl
