Crazy Pets
daryl_s replied to Coues 'n' Sheep's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
That is way cool, a squirrel for a pet. I have a friend who grew up in Duncan and claims he had a pet Bobcat from the time it was a little Kitty. He said it would catch birds and bring them in the house and eat them in front of the TV. Cool stories. -
Actually, it's only a swear word depending on which spanish speaking country you are in . But I guess since we are closest to Mexico we can say it's a swear word.

The house looks beautiful, not to mention the satisfaction of having done it yourself. I hope to do the same someday.

That's way cool, congratulations.

WT with IQ of a Carp Deer...
daryl_s replied to scoutm's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
They mention "these Mexico bucks........." so it's probably on the infamous "Coues Sanctuary" high fenced hunting properties. -
My dad filled his 2007 HAM tag in unit 23 this morning at 11:45 AM. He spotted the pigs and set up as they were bedding down. One shot with his Thompson Contender in .223 from 132 yards did the trick. He spent a ton of time getting the best handload and fine tuning it. The TC has a fixed 2x scope and he built a rest to set up on his tripod. He spent a lot of time at the range and out scouting and it paid off.

Amazing. Best of all you got to share the experience with your dad. Congrats to both of you. -
What else could I say that hasn't already been said????? Truly amazing, congratulations.

Put me in the boring/no imagination group

That's about one of the coolest collection of trail cam pics I've seen. Definitely a lot of diversity . It looks like you got 2 pics of the first buck but the second time around he had a broken branch stuck in his antlers, definitely a shooter.

It snowed a little in Florence tonight.

Will you be getting any of the Pentax PF63 Zoom Spotting Scopes? From what you had to say about them it sounds like something I would be interested in. Thanks, Daryl

border story in the news
daryl_s replied to russd's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
The link that someone posted a while back to the government report on the border problem said that these drug cartels recruited members of the Mexican and Guatemalan military that were elite, special forces type military. It also stated that they have just as much technology as the BP. Heads up if you are down there, I sleep with my XD-40 handy when I go down there. -
I'll put my .243 up against any bow any day of the week You guys crack me up .

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow
daryl_s replied to creed_az_88's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Mike, my dad has the HAM hunt in 23 so MT Ord is out of bounds. I think the hunt is in February. I don't have a tag so I might just tag along and be an extra set of eyes for him. This trip we took on Saturday was my first time in the Tonta Basin area. We saw 8 WT in just a few hours but that was just 1 trip so I don't really know about overall population. Good luck on your January tag, let us know how it goes. -
Congratulations Wayne!!!!! That is an awesome buck and great accomplishment, I can only dream of having a shot at a buck of that caliber someday.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow
daryl_s replied to creed_az_88's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
No, those pictures were not taken up on Mt Ord. We were in unit 23 East of Mt Ord. I don't know the name of the mountain we were on, but in the last picture you can't see Mount Ord, it is just out of the picture, but the view is looking down towards where Tonto Basin is. We went up the 87 to where it meets the 188 and back down into Tonto Basin. Once in Tonto Basin we headed East. I'm a real rookie still when it comes to names of places, mountains, etc but just trying to learn little by little. I didn't even know it was Mount Ord until my dad told me. I love to get out and see new areas(new to me anyways) as much as I can. That's why I love this site so much, I learn a ton from you guys/gals.
