    Pictures through Binos

Digital cameras, as well as other electronic devices, aren't too unreasonably priced now days. You should be able to find a good 4.0 megapixel camera for under or right about $200. I love my camera, it is so easy to use and it is extremely easy to upload pictures onto my computer. Digital cameras are so much more convenient than the 35 mm cameras...you get instant feedback, if you don't like the picture you erase it from the camera instantly, there is much more capacity, etc. If you get a 4.0 megapixel camera you should also get at least a 128 MB card. A secure digital 128 MB card costs about 20 bucks. My card holds 64 pictures on the highest resolution. Also, with a lot of digital cameras you can shoot video clips. I always wondered how people were getting such awesome pictures of wildlife through their binos and scopes. I had no idea that it was so simple. I had no idea how "digiscoping works. Thanks for the info everyone, now I can't wait to try it out.

    24 wildlife cam in Africa

I've checked it out a few times. I tuned in right now just in time to catch a herd of zebras as they were leaving. Also, saw some elephants coming in one time, there was a little baby elephant in the group. Haven't seen much, still hoping to see a lion or something cool like that. Overall it's a pretty neat site. Sometimes I'll keep it open while using another page to browse so that way you still have the sound and you might hear something going on.

    Gas prices!

DesertBull could not have said it better, he is right on the money. The work that I do for the gas station is maintenance...including gas dispensers.....I can absolutely assure you that the company that I work for would NEVER gouge or fix pumps to give someone the wrong amount. However, if you think that you are not getting the right amount of gas or that the pump is not calibrated correctly you can call the Arizona department of weights and measures. They take those calls very seriously and they will be at that station doing testing in most cases by the following day. With the price of gas being so high I definitely don't want to pay for gas that I am not getting. It is not uncommon for a pulsar on a pump to go bad causing the calibration to be off and most of the time when they do go bad they give you more gas than you pay for. Anyways, it only takes a few minutes to change out the pulsar, so if a gas station is ripping people off they do get hit with big fines from the state. Here is the link to the site if anybody is interested in checking it out. http://www.azdwm.gov/ All gas stations should have stickers on the gas pumps that have the phone number for weights and measures for people that want to report something.

    Gas prices!

This gasoline situation is out of control. I can't say too much becuase of confidentiallity rules at work, but I work for a gasoline/convenience retailer here in the valley and my brother in law is a manager at one of the locations here in Mesa. I talked to him this morning and he told me that their last gasoline delivery came at a cost of $3.11 per gallon and they are selling at $2.89 a gallon. So for the time being they are losing $.22 a gallon. That's a significant hit when you sell about 100,000 gallons of gas a week, which his store does sell. Anyways, there's a lot involved in the whole gasoline retail business. My suggestion is to do what Lark mentioned......complain about the other things that they have more control over, like window squeegees. I too have changed my weekend plans....not going to Big Lake. Still goin campin , just not as far.

    Big Lake

Scoot, thanks for the info. I just reread what I wrote when I posted this topic and I realized that I made it look like just my wife was going to be at Big Lake. I will be at Big Lake WITH my wife and I want to convince her that we should stay longer, I'm not trying to get rid of her for the weekend
  7. I have a question that I'm sure somebody here can answer for me. Does Big Lake still have showers available??? I haven't been there in a few years but I remember being there before and they had a real nice facility there by the campgrounds. They charged $2 for a half hour to use it and they were actually really nice. My wife is going, that's why I want to know.....that way I can talk here into staying longer . Thanks.

    36b 12/16 - 12/31 hunt

Matt- That hunt is my first choice every year and I am yet to get it. I'll be down there in October and yes we are going to camp there. I don't know if I would camp there during the December hunt because there are going to be about 850 less hunters and it is spread out over a longer period of time. The area just north of the Tres Bellotas ranch is really good but it is right on the border. You've got a great tag, good luck. Daryl

    Gas...

I'm not too much in the know but I do maintenance work or a gas retail company here in the valley and they just had us pick up all the price signage that was $1. and in our shop they have all the $3. signs all lined up and ready to go......I guess they must have a good reason for having the new pricing numbers ready. It is just sickening to think of paying so much for gas. Anybody wanna carpool with me down to 36B in late October .

    How bad is Southern AZ?

I don't believe any polls that the media puts out. They polled 1200 people out how many millions that are in the United States????? I don't trust the accuracy of polls and I also think that the media manipulates those polls to whatever message that they are trying to get across. As far as immigration goes.....the problem is in Mexico. The Mexican government needs to fix the problems in Mexico. Why aren't people in Canada flooding the Northern border trying to get to the U.S. at all cost???? Another thing that the article mentions is that even the people in Mexico with college degrees want to come here. Once again we go back to the problem of jobs not being available....which takes us back to the government. My father-in-law has a bio-chemical engineering degree in Mexico and teaches basic computer classes at the local technical school. He has a small house and a car that most of the time doesn't run and he is better off than most of the people where he lives. He was born in Mexico, has lived there his whole life and doesn't want to leave. What does a person in The U.S. with a bio-chemical engineering degree make????? I really don't know but I am sure that they are probably pretty well off. The article mentions the "middle class" in Mexico which as anybody who has ever traveled much in Mexico knows that it pretty much doesn't exist. I understand why people from Mexico want to come here but I think that everybody should do it the right way and follow the right legal steps to do so.
  11. I'm in. I prefer the drawings over the pictures for the shirts because I think that they will come out better quality and last longer. I would be interested in hats, shirts, and I especially like the idea of a window sticker for my truck. Daryl

    How bad is Southern AZ?

Wow, what an eye-opening article!!! I hunt normally just North of the tres bellotas ranch. Have only been down there once since 2000 but I will be down there for the October hunt this year. In the previous years down there I never even saw an illegal but I know that times are changing and even on my rifle hunt I will more than likely have a pistol with me. Also, I would always be sure to not go alone. I will not stop going down there either, I love it down there and there is excellent deer and javelina hunting also, I'm not going to let them take that away from me.

    How bad is Southern AZ?

Ditto to what the others said and I would say that another good idea is to not go by yourself or to camp alone. Those units down there are great units for hunting deer, javelina and predators. Don't miss out on it. Daryl

    Family Strengths

I do general maintenance work for the gas station/ convenience store QuikTrip. Don't know if that's any help to anybody, but I would like to become a high school spanish teacher and track coach. I already know spanish , just gotta get the schooling done. Comes in handy hunting in 36B. If you ever need a spanish translator send me a pm. Daryl

    Deer and piggies in January

unit 22 is good right on the other side of bartlett lake. We took a small boat with a trolling motor and just stashed it on the other side of the lake and hunted from there. we got on the pigs pretty quick and saw some deer too. also had some friends that have seen some lions back there too.

    archery hunter murdered in 34A

Very sad. People, please don't go hunting by yourself in southern Arizona, it's just too dangerous. I'll be in 36B in October and if you are going to be down there and need a place or someone to camp with PM me. I'll be down there with my brother and dad. It's not worth the risk.
  17. Ernesto- You definitely have no reason to apologize or worry that someone was offended by you. I am new to this site and I very quickly realized that you are a great poster and someone that has has contributed greatly to this site. It's very obvious that about 99% of the people on here are people of high character. I really enjoy this website for a lot of reasons. Ernesto...keep those great posts comin and don't worry about your faith offending others. Thank you for your great contributions to this site. I hope to meet you in the field some day. You're welcome in my camp anytime. I'm normally in unit 36B or C. God Bless you Ernesto. Daryl

    Rocky Point Problems?

I go to Mexico at least once a year. If you are going to go to Mexico and you don't speak spanish then Rocky Point is probably about the best place to go. Something bad happens in one place and then everybody thinks that it is like that in every part of Mexico. Nuevo Laredo is a long way from Rocky Point. Just don't do anything illegal and you shouldn't have any problems with anybody. I've never heard of anybody having any problems in Rocky Point. The state of Sonora is pushing tourism from the U.S. side real hard and Rocky Point is probably you're safest bet in Mexico. Just use common sense and don't be careless. I would love to go down there more often.
  19. I thought I was either kicked out or had some kind of virus cause my sister-in-law downloaded some garbage onto my computer that I couldn't get off. Either way I'm glad to be back on. I was gettin real bored.
  20. That was awesome BASS, I about fell outta my chair.

    Who is incharge

I agree. This site is great. Some of it is a little off topic but I think that that just makes it that much better. I just discovered this site not that long ago and the discussion forum is by far my favorite part. As a new member to this site I don't know as much as others about CHD, but I think it's pretty obvious that he loves the attention he gets from his posts and does it mostly just to be funny. After all, he does mention that sarcasm is one of the fine services that he offers. I hope that if anything changes are made that they be minimal. I really enjoy hearing from other hunters that are way more experienced and knowledgeable than I am and if I can get a good laugh along with it, than that's even better.

    Unit 36B

The October hunt should be when you have to worry the least because there are so many more hunters. The later hunts are when you really need to be a lot more aware. It's just like everybody has been sayin' to just use common sense and good judgement.
  23. daryl_s

so what did everyone draw ?

    October 36B coues. That's all.

    Unit 36B

My dad and I have been hunting in 36B for about 10 years and we go almost all the way to the border. We haven't had any problems but we always stay close to other camps and we keep in touch with them. We've always gotten drawn for the October hunts when there are a lot of hunters down there, which obviously is going to be a little safer when there are more hunters around. We had some friends of ours that got the late hunt one year and when they got up to go out in the morning there was a group of about 15 illegals sitting outside their camp just sitting there waiting for them to leave camp. They decided to just pack it up and come home. Also, the smugglers are very aware of hunting season and use it to their advantage. They know that there is more traffic and try to blend in while driving. The best thing you can do if you're going to camp is have a big camp and put it close to another camp. That's what we always do and we haven't run into any problems yet. We'll be down there in the October hunt and if you want to camp close to us let me know. Also, now that quads have made traveling easier we are going to camp along the main road where there are more hunters camping.

    lion kill

My dad found this set of antlers in 36B while javelina hunting a few years ago. Probably from a lion kill. Too bad a hunter didn't get it first. My guess is that it scores about 90 or maybe a little bit more. What do you guys think??
