I would have classified that as a non-typical spike coues and put him on my wall, just give the game warden this look--->

Well if you guys would quit posting pictures of all those monster deer you find no one would want to e-scout off of you. Pretty soon unit 42 is going to have worse draw odds than the strip!

Wish I was going to be out there, but sounds like I am the only sucker going to be stuck in town this weekend. Good luck on your hunt and let us know how you do!

Very good topic Casey, thanks for starting it I have been in that situation a few times where after the shot the animal has just disappeared. There is probably no cure all answer, but there is definitely some good advice on this thread. Sometimes I will use landmarks a few hundred yards away from where the animal is. Such as picking something on the skyline and approximating the animal to be about x degrees from that. Never be in a hurry to leave the spot you shot from, the blood trail or the animal will be there when you get there

if anyone hunts this area
missedagain replied to azryan's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
For some reason they sure like unit 22 Maybe this could be a good thing for hunters, deer with cotton mouth and the munchies = more active deer -
We don't need any more regulation on hunting

Sounds like you got yourself a pretty custom set-up. Do you use this bow more for target or hunting? It seems that the stability of the longer ax to ax you are getting would be offset by that short of a brace height for a target bow. If you use this bow more for hunting, how do you like the shoot through riser? Never shot one like that but have seen a couple around and man do they look "special". I am a little suprised that someone that puts that much time into their bow is willing to put up with peep tubing. p.s. I was really impressed with that training regimen you had posted a while back, are you sticking with it?

Wyoming antelope hunt(all 22 minutes of it)

Congrats to you and your buddy! Awesome strategy, if you get your son addicted to antelope hunting you will have an excuse to go to WY every year. Thanks for sharing you hunt with us. -
How early should hunt camp be setup?
missedagain replied to scoutm's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
As early as possible -
DesertBull- Sorry to hear about that on your sons hunt. Someone that would intentionaly interfere like that is not any kind of a sportsman and is a real a__hole Road hunters in general don't really bother me that much, I am more appreciative to have access to so much public land compared to just about every other state. Most of the time if you are having that many problems with road hunters you are probably spending to much time on the roads yourself.

How do we find the group?

May we never doubt you again What a monster deer!

I have to disagree that the bucks follow the same routine in Dec. Every circumstance in hunting is different of course but I have found bedded deer in Dec at first light and watched them stay bedded until the sun is all the way up and it starts to warm up, then the deer get up and become active.

North to Alaska

Have fun! Good luck! Can't wait to hear the stories and see the pics! -
I think a bigger concern might be this "copper sticker program" http://www.azgfd.gov/artman/publish/article_634.shtml You already have to have your atv or ohv or whatever licensed (taxed) to ride it on FS roads, this seems like a cheap shot to earn some more money and create more unenforcable laws.

I have been shooting a cavalier laucher style rest that I converted into a drop away, I just wish I could blame my poor shooting on my cheap rest.

My best tactic is... well I could tell you but then I'd have to kill you

Birthday Girl

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! -
Glad to hear that he will be alright! I once shot a 3 1/2 inch shell out of an 870 that was suppose to only hold up to a 3 inch shell, the gun pretty much fell apart and I had to do surgery to get the shell out of the action but luckily I wasn't hurt. Congratulations on the bear! Lets see some pictures

Yea, haven't heard a whole lot from people hunting the middle units this year, I am curious to see how those hunts in 21 and 22 turn out since this is the first year of the early hunts there. Might be kinda tough since these units don't generaly have the densities as the units down south. I saw that the 6a early hunt last year had something like 6% kill odds so the g$f decided to raise the number of tags, what happened to managing for a 20% success rate.

I also got skunked this afternoon hunting SW of Sedona. Must have walked 4 miles before finally jumping a covey, they busted at about 50 yards. Never caught up with them or found any stragglers. I really wanted to shoot some birds to break in my dads new pup. Oh well, try again tommorrow.

Rifle Tag Help, UNIT 6A, AZ, Please?
missedagain replied to medmo's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
elkhunter- I don't have the regs in front of me but I think Stehr lake is actually in unit 22 with that childs road being the boundry. Saw a pretty nice buck this summer in W. Clear creek about a mile north of bull pen. -
I was at wally world in Flag today and saw 6 people in line to by licenses for next year, this was at 6:22pm. I don't think all of them made the deadline if the g$f really stopped accepting apps at 7:00pm. Now the wait begins...

I have those older dcf wp 10X42 and I think that they are a great glass, I would think that these new ones would be just as good
