Dave, Just got off the phone with Mike. He's coming out to measure tomorrow and will install the new unit Monday!! Thank you Sir!

I can't speak to it fer shure, but he might have meant "incidental" -- happening as a chance consequence, not the major reason. IOW, if a guy is out there hunting deer during a deer season and kills a lion that walks by, etc., it is incidental to his deer hunt. OTOH, if he goes out specifically to hunt a lion and kills one, it is an intentional consequence.

I had to do some editing on the earlier figures because I used the wrong column for the WOD stats. I had put the TOTAL kill there. Still, the WD is about 1/3 to 1/2 of the total. Obviously, there is no breakdown on how someone who buys a lion tag, which are sold over-the-counter, will hunt. Below are the TOTAL tags sold each year. I would guess 95% or more were sold to hunters who weren't chasing behind dogs. 2000 -- 7478 2001 -- 8109 2002 -- 8274 2003 -- 8089 2004 -- 8964 2005 -- 10117 2006 -- 10931 2007 -- 10995 2008 -- 10713 2009 -- 103525 Now rather than me do your work for you, here's a link to DL the whole booklet. The section on lions starts on pg. 139. Enjoy. http://www.azgfd.gov/pdfs/h_f/HuntAZ2010.pdf

Ask and you shall receive. The stats are readily avaiable in any of the AZ Hunt books. YR. ----WOD*---WD* 2000 -- 276 -- 193 2001-- 326 -- 214 2002 -- 264 -- 175 2003 -- 218 -- 164 2004 -- 247 -- 167 2005 -- 204 -- 120 2006 -- 221 --136 2007 -- 256 -- 163 2008 -- 265 -- 168 2009 -- 246 -- 167 *WOD-Without dogs *WD - With dogs So....it appears only about 1/3 on average of the harvest each year goes to the hound hunters.

Dead on, Amanda. It was a move to sidestep a ballot initiative that would have made AZ into CA as far as lion hunting is concerned. The "social" aspect is also the reason bear baiting during the spring season was stopped. Thus, unlike Colorado, where the entire spring season was shut down by a ballot initiative, AZ managed to retain the hunt by dumping the baiting. And of course, we already know what happened with trapping here. Biology is not always the reason for doing things; often in today's climate, social engineering must play a part.

Someone in the Obama administration might call this a teachable moment. This type of goof is easily corrected IF the app is sent in during the "correction" period and not a day or two before the deadline. Whoever was listed in the A box would have received a phone call to correct the situation. And to Brian, thanks for stopping by.

TJ, Geez, 60K is not a lot of miles for a V6 engine. I used to "mechanic" years ago. I'm not quite sure what you mean when you say it is "freezing up?" Did it get run hot or...? Also, did you have it checked by a pro? All that said, if it is indeed shot, a full overhaul of yours or replacement with a remanufatured one (probably about $2k with installation) would be a great deal cheaper than a new vehicle. Of course, that would only be something you would do if the rest of the car is in tip-top shape.

The dental configuration is definitely that of a canine of some sort.

Me too. I usually put twice the amount the recipe calls for. I also add a few shakes of Old Bay seasoning. In case you're not familiar with it, it's the reddish stuff they use in Maryland to coat the steamed crabs. One caution: BARELY cook the shrimp! The marinate also "cooks" them, so the shrimp will get tough if you overdo the initial boiling. -
Thanks Jim Reynolds

Ernesto, My mom had a minor heart attack due to a blocked artery. They did an angioplasty and inserted a stent to keep it open. She came home yesterday and is now doing fine. Thanks for asking. Chef, The pickled shrimp is delicous. I used to make it as an appetizer when I had all the guys here at the house for the annual "Steenkin' Peeg Hunt." Here's the recipe in case you want to try it. Pickled Shrimp 3 pounds of cooked, deveined med. shrimp 1 large, thinly sliced onion 1 1/4 cups salad oil 3/4 cup white vinegar 1 1/2 tsp salt 2 1/2 tsp celery seeds 3 Tbsp capers & juice 2 dashes tabasco 1 crushed clove garlic Combine all ingredients in a bowl. Allow to marinate several hours, preferrably overnight. Remove garlic before serving. Serves 12-16. -
Thanks Jim Reynolds

Looks like a good time had by all! Sorry I had to back out at the last minute. I would have enjoyed seeing Jim's collection. -
You MUST mail it. They won't accept drop-off or walk-ins for leftovers until Aug. 9. "There are two methods to obtain a leftover tag. Applications will be accepted by mail only beginning at 8 a.m. (MST) on Aug. 2. After Aug. 9 at 8 a.m. (MST), hunters can obtain a leftover tag in person by filling out an application at any of the seven Arizona Game and Fish Department offices. A list of office locations is available at www.azgfd.gov/offices."

All of the laws passed during the last legislative section go into effect July 29th -- 90 days after the legislature adjourned.

Allen, Yeah, congrats to you, too. We had 8 bps each. Haven't really decided what we're doing yet. My son is in Durango, right now. So he doesn't even know we drew the permits yet.

Allen, My son and I also drew that hunt.

Not quite sure yet. She was having problems breathing and had chest pains. So my daughter, who was at my mom's when it happened, took her to the ER. They're keeping her in the hospital overnight and still running tests. I called a bit ago, and they said she's doing better now. Will be heading over again later to visit. -

I'm gonna have to cancel out on the get-together because of a health issue with my 86-yr.old mom. Until it's worked out, I will need to stay close to home. -
If that is the case, it seems like it will be easy to work it out. G&F will have a copy of the app and whoever wrote the check should have copies of it - both front and back -- to match to the app. If the money was misapplied by G&F and, they must issue the permits for first choice.

E-scouting again, huh?
-
Did any of them apply for a license on the app and perhaps not enclose the payment for that?

My son and I drew the Kaibab westside late hunt (1015). I struck out again on sheep, though. -
Good additions, Lance. That controversity didn't exist when I wrote that article in 1988.
