maybe Kalifornia should boycott....
Outdoor Writer replied to DesertBull's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
The devil is in the details. See the text in red, which differs from AZ's "For any lawful stop, detention or arrest ...." -
One of my favorites that still holds VERY true today: "There's no trick to being a humorist when you have the whole government working for you." Here's a bunch more: Will Rogers
-
Will Rogers, who died in a 1935 plane crash with his best friend, Wylie Post, was probably the greatest political sage this country ever has known. He is also smart, considering many of his comments and quips are filled with truths. Enjoy the following: 1. Never slap a man who's chewing tobacco. 2. Never kick a cow chip on a hot day. 3.. There are two theories to arguing with a woman . . Neither works. 4. Never miss a good chance to shut up. 5. Always drink upstream from the herd. 6. If you find yourself in a hole, stop digging. 7. The quickest way to double your money is to fold it and put it back into your pocket. 8. There are three kinds of men: The ones that learn by reading. The few who learn by observation. The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves. 9. Good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment. 10. If you're riding' ahead of the herd, take a look back every now and then to make sure it's still there. 11. Lettin' the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier'n puttin' it back. 12. After eating an entire bull, a mountain lion felt so good he started roaring. He kept it up until a hunter came along and shot him. The moral: When you're full of bull, keep your mouth shut. ABOUT GROWING OLDER... First ~ Eventually you will reach a point when you stop lying about your age and start bragging about it. Second ~ The older we get, the fewer things seem worth waiting in line for. Third ~ Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me; I want people to know 'why' I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved. Fourth ~ When you are dissatisfied and would like to go back to youth, think of Algebra. Fifth ~ You know you are getting old when everything either dries up or leaks. Sixth ~ I don't know how I got over the hill without getting to the top. Seventh ~ One of the many things no one tells you about aging is that it is such a nice change from being young. Eighth ~ One must wait until evening to see how splendid the day has been. Ninth ~ Being young is beautiful, but being old is comfortable. Tenth ~ Long ago, when men cursed and beat the ground with sticks, it was called witchcraft. Today it's called golf. And, finally ~ If you don't learn to laugh at trouble, you won't have anything to laugh at when you are old

Okay, that sorta makes sense. I was just trying to get the times a little more definite so we could plan visiting our friends. Besides a side dish and rolls, do we need to bring drinks, etc.? -

El and I will be there. We have good friends in Sahuarita not too far from the casino, so we might do double duty and visit with them, as well. What time does the party start and what time will the eating actually take place? -
Here's the best explanation. http://www.fws.gov/asheville/pdfs/TNspringsandseeps.pdf

Bill, I think there was plenty of mention of the Merriam's long before Househouder and Avery mentioned them. It's been more than 20 years since Iwrote that article, but I do recall doing a bit of research that indicated the Merriam's existed here and in NM and even in the Guadaloupe Mts. in Texas. A couple early explorers/trappers mentioned seeing and killing elk in their journals, some of which I saw quoted in Man and Wildlfe in Arizona. Anyway, I see Jim jumped in, and he has indeed done some DNA work on the Merriam's, as explained in his very informative article.

Dale, I just signed up to play and also made a pledge to MY game!

TJ, I don't recall who brought it up Sat., but someone mentioned having an acquaintence who supposedly had killed a Merriams elk in 1930. As a result, I mentioned that it was highly unlikely because that subspecies had disappeared many years before then. So....recalling I had written this article and the ones I posted in the elk and buffalo sections, I decided to revive them for a historical perspective on some of AZ's critters.

Looks good. With the head down, it shows the eyes and mouth better than if the head is pointed up.

Good photos, TJ! That photo with Sasha and Lexie is cool. I think Sasha's motherly instinct must have kicked in to make her lie down right next to Lexie like she did. We enjoyed the few hours we spent with everyone, and it was good to finally meet you face-to-face. El will be using Peggy's salsa recipe this week! -
Well, let's see if I remember back that many years. If I recall, the NM G&F was wringing its hands at the time because the proliferation of the non-native aoudads in some key mountain ranges that were historic habitat for the native desert sheep precluded any efforts to restore or boost the populations of the sheep in those areas. I'll see if I can locate some factual info about it.

Yesterday was fun. It was good to get out of town. I had seen that article but long after I had written this one or the one in the thread below. You should had that article to it, as well. It has some great detail. http://forums.coueswhitetail.com/forums/in...hp?showforum=51

It ain't a lion, but I have this bear and bobcat rug with the heads slightly down. My zebra is with the unmounted head up, however. For hanging, I use 3/4" round-headed upholstery tacks through the felt. If you have two felt layers, put the tacks under the top layer to hide them.

Ellen and I enjoyed visiting with everyone. Sasha also had fun. In fact, she was wore out and crashed when we got home. And thanks for the hospitality, Lance and family. -

Amanda, Okie dokie. Ellen isn't fond of 5 a.m. departures, so we'll probably get out of here about 6 or so. That should put us there about 8:30, I'd guess. We'll probably pack a lunch and take a leisurely route back home in the afternoon. Anything we need to bring?? -

My wife and I, along with Sasha, are going to drive up in the morning. Anyone know what time will breakfast be served? -
this might affect your 36b hunt

Good to see Fox News is finally catching up. The closed off area stretches 80 miles along the border and includes part of the Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge. It was closed in October 2006 "due to human safety concerns," the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service said Wednesday in response to news reports on the closure. -
I was there about 2 p.m. and the place was about deserted. I only hung around about 15 mins. because that's about all it took to see everything. This was the first time I attended one of the shows. Don't know why, but I expected to see a lot more mounts on display. That said, congrats on your awards. I liked both the bear and the lion. Many of the others had only the ribbons but no indication who did the work. So if you had more, congrats on them too.

I'm heading to the AZ Taxidermy show this afternoon about 2 p.m. Anyone else going??
