    How Long?

Only quick if it eventually gets OK in a day or two. Otherwise if the delay continues, the 3-day rule applies.

    Remember the 80s in Phoenix

I remember the Hayloft, but although Robbins appeared there on occasion, I don't believe he owned it. I rubbed elbows with him sort of at the old Manzanita dirt track on south 35 th Ave. I worked with an extinguisher company as a fireman in the pits there in the early 60s when Robbins began racing stock cars. At the time, I still owned my '56 T-Bird and would use it doing laps to pack the track after it got watered down. It would take me two days to get it clean again. They did stock cars on Weds. and super modified/sprinters on Sat. So one Sat. night in May 1962, my wife, who was 71/2-months pregnant, and I are headed home in the T-bird to my parent's house on W. Mariposa, a few doors away from Alhambra HS. Somewhere along 35th ave., some dude decided to pass us in traffic and had to dart in front of me to miss a head-on. I had to hit the brakes. With no seat belts in the 'Bird, my wife pitched forward and banged the dash. She wasn't seriously hurt, but we get home and her water breaks. We get back in the T-bird, but it won't start. My parents were visiting friends with their car, and my '56 Ford Vic was undergoing an engine rebuild. So the only vehicle available was my dad's workhorse '47 Chevy PU from the gas station. We loaded into it, with wife in labor sitting with her feet on tow chains and other rescue type items, and off to Phx Baptist Hospital we went. My oldest son was born a few hours after midnight on Mother's Day, May 13, 1962. Later in the 1960s. my dad's gas station housed & sponsored a stocker that was driven by Paul Marciano, who later went on to drive sprint cars and was blamed for the death of Hank Arnold, who drove the infamous "Twister." I can still hear the voice of this guy..... McDonald, William "Windy" "William "Windy" McDonald, 82, of Phoenix AZ, passed peacefully on Tuesday, October 11, 2016. He was preceded in death by son Ricky ........wife Beverly Jo. He was known as "the voice of racing" in Arizona, as he announced the races at Manzanita Speedway for over 50 years....where thousands of times, his famous line "Its show time" echoed off the mountains. In 2014 he was inducted into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame."

10-4 on the indoor aspects. I thought you were implying they were gone. The school deal is behind the mall, like right behind Walmart.

Federal law is three days but a dealer can set his own time because you can't force him to sell you something.

Something else I should have mentioned in my first reply. Both Canadians and Brits use "colour" rather than "color," so the guy could be a transplanted one of either. And the other obvious thing trying to set up a FtF would be outing him on location, i.e. in Nigeria, etc., if he puts down that idea. Still, if $900 is a going rate, that $500 seems way out of line and should be suspect for further "investigation" before any money changes hands.

Good ole days on ammo prices

It's kind of funny that you brought up the knights because I always sort of wondered what the connection was between knights and Neptune, the Roman god of the sea. 😂 Even though he was sometimes called "King Neptune" it wasn't in the sense of a knights and castles type.

Yes, at dinner time if I recall but not at lunch when we went to eat there.

Did you know a Joe Gambino? He was earlier than the 80s, but I'm not sure how much earlier.

We bought our snow skis and boots at the one on Northern, near 35th Ave. in 1975. Prior to that, we also rented skis there.

    My Mentor

I should have mentioned that perhaps only a couple members here were old enough to know about either dad or son during their hayday years in the 60s.

I guess I have a lot more trust in people and in sidearms than you do. And as noted by my selling/buying record, I have about a 99.99% effective rate of spotting would be scammers. If I was that concerned about being robbed, I'd never go out of the house .

True, unless one is smart enough to set the FTF where robbery is not a good option for either party. 😎

Some good tips. I've done online selling and buying, mostly on Ebay, since 2002. I've even bought quite a few tools from China at smoking prices. But it wasn't until a few months ago that I got burned for the 1st time after a couple hundred transactions. It was only for $24, tho, and yes it was one of those smoking deals. It was supposedly shipped & delivered while I was in the hospital/rehab for a month. When I got home, I didn't remember the deal until a month later. Package never arrived, but the UPS tracking showed it delivered to some dude at a "front desk" somewhere even though my address was on it. When I tried to contact the seller, who had only a few sales, he was gone off eBay, and it was too late to file a gripe with either PP or ebay. Otherwise, even this deal would have been protected. But I'm curious;.why miss buying the gun if it's still available? Since he claims to be in Phx, why not just contact him and tell him you'll pay cash FTF? The worst thing that could happen is he won't show. Or have you already tried this approach?

Oh, geez, how could I forget that one. My dad moved his gas station business to a brandy new Wilshire (owned by Gulf) at 27th Ave. & ISR, and I was his mechanic thru the 1960s. The drive-in was right behind the station back then. Ferguson's Cafeteria and Wide World of Maps to the east and across the street, one of our favorite restaurants -- Stag & Hound. It was also in the early 1980s where our deer herds erupted because of the rains. Close to 100K permits were available for a couple years running. .

Also, the Big Sky on Indian School between 35th and 43rd. Ave. There was another on Van Buren, but I can't rmember the name. We still have one a mile away from me on 55th Ave here in Glendale. Think it's now called the Glendale Nine. It has nine screens now, but gone are the days where admission was per car load. Now they charge per person, including kids over a certain age. probably been 30 years or more since I've been to one. Last movie was "The Hunt For Red October."

The head dude was a good friend, Ray Lerma. We worked out together at a small gym in the shopping ctr, between Indian School & Grand Ave at 33rd. The gym was at the ISR end, north of Graham Central.

Rode there one night when I first visited Phx in 1958 with my parents and a high school buddy. It was my first time of many on a horse. We played golf at Enchanto and thought it was kind of weird that all the holes were flooded 8" deep on the sides of the fairways. We eventually took off our shoes & socks because we spent a lot of time wading after wayward golf balls.

Tell me me about it. When we moved here from NJ in Jan. 1962, I had a tricked out '56 Ford Victoria and towed a '56 T-Bird. No AC in either. A few months later, the Bird sold for a downpayment on a house, and the Vic' became a 1962 Mercury station wagon WITH AC. My wife was a very happy camper with both deals. 😂

Before it was buiIt, a customer at my dad's Flying A gas station at 33rd. ave and Indian school was selling stock for LC. I owned 100 shares at $1 per that later became worthless. 🤬
