    The Draw

Too bad. I thought the Strip was where AGFD had planted them. I also heard they were actually hybrids, i.e. part Merriams. I've killed a few Rios in Texas over the years.

    The Draw

Did you tag a Rio? They are on the Strip, right?
  3. GAME AND FISH NEWS Oct. 7, 2020 2021 spring hunt applications due by 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13 AZGFD available to provide application assistance PHOENIX — The deadline to submit 2021 spring hunt applications is fast approaching. Applications for spring turkey, javelina, bison and bear hunts, and raptor capture, must be received by the Arizona Game and Fish Department (AZGFD) no later than 11:59 p.m. (Arizona time) Tuesday, Oct. 13. To apply, visit www.azgfd.gov/hunting/draw. AZGFD is available to assist all applicants. A customer service representative can be reached by calling (602) 942-3000 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday (except Columbus Day, Oct. 12). AZGFD also will be staffed to provide after-hours assistance — by telephone only — from 5 to 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13 (deadline day). To expedite the process, applicants are encouraged to be prepared with the following before calling AZGFD: An applicant’s hunting or combination hunt and fish license must be valid on Oct. 13. All applicants, including youth (ages 10-17), who are applying for a hunt permit-tag must possess a license that is valid on the last day of the application period. Licenses can be purchased online at https://www.azgfd.com/license/. Know your Department ID. This is a must to submit an application. There are three ways to locate a Department ID: Log into your AZGFD portal account and click on “View Details” under “My AZGFD Dashboard,” check your hunting or combination hunt and fish license if it was purchased online, or call AZGFD at (602) 942-3000 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday (except Columbus Day, Oct. 12). For more information, see Page 8 of the “2021 Spring Turkey, Javelina, Bison, Bear and Raptor Capture Hunt Draw Information” booklet. Meanwhile, all applicants are encouraged to purchase PointGuard. This benefit ensures that if a successful applicant is unable to participate in a hunt for any reason, the accumulated bonus points that were expended to draw that hunt permit-tag will be reinstated. The cost is $5 for each species. New beginning with this draw: A free AZGFD portal account is no longer required to purchase PointGuard, either at the time of application or through the application deadline (Oct. 13). A portal account is still needed for those hunters wishing to view their draw results, however. Visit accounts.azgfd.com/Account/Register and complete the required fields.

    Biltong

Just air dried. I found it a lot more chewable than jerky., and the coriander gives it a unique flavor.

    Biltong

I pigged out on biltong when I went to SA. The one concession had a large building about 20x20 or so that was dedicated to drying the game meat. Everyday before we left, we would grab a couple pounds for the ride, so to speak.

    Name that gun!

And this: The initial production of the single-shot 1-22 Colteer bolt action 22 were made by Jefferson Arms (renamed Kodiak) Company and subsequently by Colt (produced 1957-1966). They made the model for Mongomery Wards with a slightly different configuration.

    Name that gun!

The push off side safety and plain Jane stock screams either Marlin, Savage or Mossberg but perhaps with a private label, ala J.C Higgins, Western Field, Western Auto, etc.

Have you omitted the clip or is it a single shot?

    Name that gun!

Geez, no wonder I didn't have a clue. I never heard of IMI making sporting guns since it was way beyond my time of having a keen interest in all things guns. That was a good poser! 👍
  15. It appears Field & Stream and Outdoor Life has been sold by Bonnier to an equity group that specializes in digital publications. Thus, the writing on the wall in the industry says F&S and OL will no longer have PRINTED versions at the least or they could possibly disappear altogether at the worst. https://www.wsj.com/articles/bonnier-corp-to-sell-its-biggest-u-s-magazines-to-venture-equity-group-11601992861?fbclid=IwAR3gNhckalA3zmC5vXdlRXaAzvgsuLcOI9Krnf9--_cNTzZuoSBti8bPVoc https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/north-equity-announces-acquisition-of-iconic-brands-including-popular-science-saveur-outdoor-life-and-field--stream-301146772.html?fbclid=IwAR1fcZXztt1herTdnq19aSicg0FaFO6J4Ikwr9VhW6gN42_q12KOuTWgfaU

And something I learned when I found this. I would have never guessed the .22 LR bit. Introduced in 1887!

    Name that gun!

"Stevens Arms was an American firearms manufacturer founded by Joshua Stevens in 1864 in Chicopee, Massachusetts. The company introduced the .22 Long Rifle round and made a number of rifle, shotgun, and target pistol designs. By 1902, they were advertising themselves as "the largest producers of sporting arms in the world".[1] They were purchased by New England Westinghouse on May 28, 1915, and again by Savage Arms on April 1, 1920.[2] As a division of Savage, Stevens continued to produce firearms at their Chicopee Falls facility until 1960 when the plant was torn down and Stevens production was moved into other Savage facilities. Savage dropped the Stevens name in 1991, but revived it in 1999 and still uses it today for a number of its low cost rifles and shotguns."

I don't recall seeing one of them with a checkered stock either. Hmmm, I thought Savage made them.

    Name that gun!

Well I'll go with the Springfield 951, but I don't recall seeing one with a checkered stock. And if I remember, Stevens made the Springfield line.
