Good luck! I would want to be out there a little earlier, but that's just me. 2am will be here before you know it.

It was an awesome morning. We had lots of birds talking even after they hit the ground.

one morning while leaving for work about 4am, I picked up my tipped over trash can and found one trapped inside. I not sure who was more startled. I didn't need coffee that morning, I was wide awake.

How many times have they been fired?

Luna use to have nice holdovers. I use to go the first week of May and troll flatfish or flies. Its been about 5 years since I have gone, but I bet its still pretty good. Nelson might be another good one to try.

Is the 44road open? It was pretty bad last time I was down there -
How much you gotta spend?

Watch the bargain cave and eBay. I've owned several and foxpro seems to be the best. -
I had 2006 with the 5.3. We towed a 24ft camp trailer about 8-10 times a year with no complaints at all. We traded it in at 196k miles and never did anything other than maintenance.

Lots of good advice on this thread. I have seen a lot of elk shot the last several years, and they all react different. Personally I wouldn't shoot for the shoulder with a 30-06. I have seen bullets stop on the shoulder joint twice, and not penetrate the chest. One was a 30-06 with 150gr soft point, and one was a 150gr barns from a .270. Both shots were inside 75yds. Luckily fast follow up shots killed both bulls and we were able to see what happened. I know both of those could have broke through the shoulder blade, but they hit the joint and stopped. I think with your setup behind the shoulder is a safer bet.

I have helped a few people with the same issues. I like to start them off just shooting primers and then move up to shooting 25gr of powder with an empty sabot. Eventually I will have them shoot 50gr and a real bullet. I dial in the gun for the hunt and never have them shoot a full charge until the hunt.

https://www.hornady.com/bullets/a-max#!/ I may be wrong, but I think they still make them. They are pretty easy to find. -

I would look at the Amax and SST. We have had great luck with both from 100yds out to 629yds. I saw an elk shot with a .30-378 using the ELDX this past season. The bullet blew up on the shoulder at about 125yds. I wouldn't use it on elk, but it might be great for smaller game. -

Great scope for the money!

A couple more.

We got well over 20in here east of Williams. It's still coming down hard.

I agree... go with the 7mag. Not really much gain with the .300

I am looking for Dies, Brass, and maybe partial boxes of bullets. Please let me know what you have. I have lots of other components I can trade, or pay cash for the right stuff.

Lots of snow around Williams. They had permits left last Friday.

Anybody have any luck on the first hunt? Has anyone heard of a radio collared buck getting killed?
-
Wasn't the biggest we saw, but he decide he liked this buck. Took a lot of crawling and a 200yd shot. It was a great hunt.
