The American Exploration Period 1824-1865
By Goode P Davis JR G&F used to sell this book.
This book is in the words of the people that explored Arizona, There were no elk in Arizona at that time except the Merrians elk in the white mountains where there was year round live water.. The party that crossed the Coconino plateau first almost starved no water no wildlife, finally they did find a Grizzly on Mt Hope and killed him for food.
the development of stock tanks by ranchers in the late 1800's until present times expanded the wildlife range immensely, many of the ranchers i know leave there waters on for wildlife even if they do not have cattle in those pastures at different times of the year.
You should read that book.

That make zero sense. Where do you get your information?

20 minutes ago, Explorer said:How about 20 years ago when the ranchers wanted all the elk gone in the multi unit areas of 17, 18 and 19. " Get these elk out of our ranches they are ruining cattle grazing" fast forward a few years and maybe one ranch still gives you access to hunt these " invading creatures". Guides moved in and now you gotta pay? I say break down the units. Only issue 15 tags in 18b to give a big middle finger to the Bacca. And let the elk herd grow into a stable ,huntable population for us to enjoy.
Ran into this when my wife had that tag. I was told which ranches would give permission due to winter wheat crop damage. Turns out a guide had swooped in and they all told us to talk to him. He wanted a $500 fee just for us to gain access and hunt on our own. Landowner tags will ruin hunting even more.

Axis stocks are different from a 110 stocks. The axis doesn't have a lug cutout.

Had a great hunt this year. On the drive down Thursday I was telling the wife how much I really wanted to kill a buck. The last several years I have been helping more than hunting. When I glassed up this buck she refused to shoot first. One shot and he was down. A few minutes later I got on the 15s to make sure he was still down and a bigger buck was standing 10ft away. She missed but it was still a great time with family and friends.

Its worth the drive for a once in a lifetime trophy. Chris Favour in Flagstaff does great work. My brother in law dropped his off in December and picked it up in September.

He clearly has a vested interest in landowner tags. He also states "facts" that are not real.
