AGFD news Chronic Wasting Disease not found in Arizona deer and elk
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to AGFD News's topic in News from Arizona Game and Fish Dept.
This post and report by AZGFD is almost a slap in the face to all AZ sportsman... and I know most don't even look at it that way, but think about it.... just last year they decided that baiting had to be stopped for fear of CWD.... and the Commission agreed with them.... many sportsman figured, "Well they probably know what they are talking about..." Now this report comes out and says EXACTLY what we argued at the meeting... That there was NO DATA to support anything they were saying!!! Funny actually because I just recently heard that "If" archery harvest numbers crash like they expect they will give rifle hunters more Dec. tags in 2014.... Now we finally got to the ROOT of the issue... the true reason for this BS Agenda!!! This smoke and mirror BS is happening at ALL levels of Government right now under the guise of "It being in OUR best interest".... Well it AIN'T in My BEST Interest, Jack! They are getting paid by us to make laws that don't do anything productive.... They are Pathetic! Okay... done ranting for the moment... but out freedoms are being stripped one little shred at a time nearly every day in this country... WAKE UP!!!! -
Also would like them!

AGFD news Chronic Wasting Disease not found in Arizona deer and elk
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to AGFD News's topic in News from Arizona Game and Fish Dept.
I must have read the wrong article because the one above doesn't say there is nothing to worry about. It does say there have been no positve tests yet and I believe they hope that trend continues. Yeah well I was in the in the meeting that resulted in a rubber stamp ban on baiting and they based it on Fear mongering of CWD... Just another Big Goverment Spin to create more laws... Pathetic. -
Wackin' and Stackin' with the Golden Ticket and Chasin' A Dream Outfitters!
Coues 'n' Sheep posted a topic in Elk Hunting
Where to begin... Another Cinderella Late Season for the Chasin a Dream Team! Well we all know how difficult the late hunts have become... tons of hunters in the woods... each tag holder has at least 2 others in tow... rangers, 4wheelers, optics, LR guns.... yadda yadda... It just gets tougher each year to put up good bulls for lucky tag holders (but hey "hunter recruitment" is down...HeHe...). Over a week before season was to begin myself, Jeremy, and our team were all scattered to the 4 corners of our range looking for prospects. The game was shaping up like this: Colton with his own tag in his pocket was on his own, to avoid any conflict of interest with our clients... Jeremy had lots of bulls up his sleeve for his client... I was elbow deep in checking my fav elk holes, but needed bulls for 2 clients... and Donny & Company (Donny Randall & Son's Guide Service, our Bear & Lion Guru) hard at digging up, hard to find bulls where no one else would go, for one of our clients that was going to start his hunt a ½ a day late. Scouting is easy… Colton had 3-4 potential shooters, One that really had his eye… I had 5-6 that were on the hit list… and the rest of the gang was not willing to say how many they had, but we were all ready for opening day. Fireworks! The woods went from empty to full over night! Opening day was a BUST!! I had 3 potential shooters that were a no show for the AM hunt… and found my #4 bulls quarters hanging in a tree 200 yards from where I last videoed him that our PM hunt…. Coltons #1 & #2 bulls vanished with the influx of people in the woods… And the rest of the gang faired about the same. Day 2… A Text from Donny & Company… Bull Down! Sam, Donny, & Austin packed the Solid late season bull a mile, plus out of the woods so fast that the client was both amazed and thrilled with the teamwork and the quality of his bull. Meat delivered to Round Valley Processing and the Hunter went chasing Bears the next day with the guys!! Day 3… Today was Golden Tickets Day! Colton and Mark had relocated his big bull at dark the evening before and at first light Colton was slinging lead! A giant down on the mountain!! I had Pics on my phone by 7:40 AM!! It took them all day to make the 2 round trips required to pack all of the whopper bull out! So Proud of my Boy and how hard he worked for this bull before and during the hunt! A Huge shout out to Mark for being there!! Day 5… I was in the need… the need to get Bloody! We had a bull in mind that was going to require a very early start… left Camp at 4 AM…. We were on point glassing just at grey light…. No bull…. I turned to Colton and mentioned that we should run around an check from another favorite glassing point where other bulls sometimes hang… and he nodded a big Yes. We hauled tail around the mountain and before I had my Swaros up Colton whispered, Got a Bull…. I went for the Scope and my first words were, Oh Yeah, Look Colton! He jumped in the scope and all he could say was, ITS H-I-M!!! The stalk plan was made, and my hunters and I started our move. An hour later, with cloud cover as our friend, we were at 400yds… Rifle in the Claw… bull broadside… lead in the air… bull on the ground…. And one very happy group! Having this bull on the ground meant more to Colton than anyone for he had been picking sheds off this bull for years... And the once amazing 400+ inch frame had shortened on top but the bottom was still as good as ever with 24 G2s and 20 G1s & G3s to compliment! My hunter was so very happy with this old Monarch of the Mountain whos Teeth and Ivories were nearly gone. We had been hoping to find this bull hard horned for years and he finally showed!! Day 6… Jeremy had been working his tail off in one of the hardest hunts of all… the filming of a LR hunting TV show is not nearly as easy as one might think… Guide, hunter, and entourage trudging up & down the mountains looking for the perfect bull, standing perfectly broadside, at the perfect distance, perfect wind and light… Well lets just say…. Better him than me! HaHaHa… The giants that Jeremy had in mind had moved on by now… A great opportunity was lost on a 320-330ish bull on the 6th morning, but the wind and light were perfect and the Hunters Videographer begged for a harvest Now!… And as if on cue another 6pt turned broadside on the hill… it was…Lights out, and the show was over! Day 7… Last day and I have one hunter left! Crunch time and I pulled out the stops… a 2 mile hike in the dark put us in a pocket you cant see from anywhere but where I was sitting…. Colton was my insurance policy High on a mountain top a mile and a ½ away looking big. I couldnt see much but he could not see what I was looking at… and I was looking at a bull feeding away at 350 yds!!! We got that rifle in the Claw and waited… so thick! First horns, then head, then a shoulder… My Guy says he is ready… say Okay, if you are sure… BOOMWhack! Where did he go??… I was sure it was over but I walk across the Canyon first and located the down bull before waving my hunter across… I had one ½ of the bull processed before Colton even got to me, and it took the rest of the day to make the first trip out as the weather set in… but we were in no hurry we were DONE!! 100% DONE… and my friends… that is a feeling that is hard to beat. Our team worked hard… SO Hard… and it paid yet again!! I am proud of our Hunters… and I am proud of the Team that makes up Chasin a Dream Outfitters! Thanks Everyone for another great late Elk season! I am most Proud of my Son… My Golden Ticket was in on 3 bulls and over 1000 inches of elk bone again this year with 385+ inches of that belonging to him!! Yes… Proud Poppa… Colton made 2 Poppas very proud on that hill! For each of us… hunters, guides, and outdoor enthusiasts, the definition of the perfect hunt or perfect trophy is very different… What is good enough for one is lacking for another… We all want a 400 incher with our tag hung on it in the bed of the Ranger on opening morning but this year was great because all our hunters met their expectations, had by their own explanation to me an excellent hunt and for me as a simple bystander… there is just nothing but fun in stacking up bone and sending everyone home with some of it! Good Hunting! -

What makes the 400 gram model better? I am deciding between those or the uninsulated Honestly it might just be me, but.... I think the 400's were even more comphortable out of the box... I don't sweat in either pair any different... the 400's are 2+ seasons older, but fir just a bit better for me and I just prefer them... could be a total personal preferance thing but I think there is more cushion in the 400's...

I love mine... but love the 400 gam modle even better!

It is hard to recommend an outfitter if we don't know where you drew... We only guide elk and deer in the units that are right next to us or that we live in because we spend literally 100's of days a year in the woods hunting, scouting, horn hunting, and recreating in the units we hunt. I believe the best way to show your hunter a great hunt is to have a better and more personal understanding of the unit, the access, and the game in it. Example: I have hunted, trapped, horn hunted, fished, and camped in units 5a, 5b, 6a for the last 30+ years and can still today help locate a 340 type late bull without even setting foot in a unit just by giving GPS cords to one of my fav spots... and I spend 100+ days a year in the woods of unit 23 (hunting, scouting, and learning for the last 1/2 dozen years) and live in unit 22. While my hunting partner and my other best Pal spent literally Hundreds of days a year in the woods of 22 and adjoining units.... so as far as central AZ we are hard to beat... but I would never ask you to hire me in unit 10 or unit 1... even though I know I can go and kill you a bull there. Cost is another thing... you want a guy to hunt as hard on the last day as he did on the first day and that means he and his gear is going to need to be still making the same wage (EX: when you hunt with me I have nearly $30K of equipment in the woods abusing the crap out of it for days before your hunt and all during your hunt). Also depending on the unit most of my hunters come home to cabin accommodations, hot showers, porcelain stool, home cookin' and a clean laundry. A great example of getting what you pay for in a hunt is this story: I had a 2 on 1 late hunt booked in 2011 with 2 great guys, one of which (the 1st shooter) was having some mobility issues with a foot and ankle (it was kicking our butt). On day 3, I drove him to town to find some better foot wear (which helped). On the 5th day I loaded them up and drove 2+ hrs in the dark and killed the old Giant 5pt that Wild Heritage Taxidermy just posted the mount of. On day 7, (last day) I walked the last hunter 2 miles in the dark to a canyon that I knew would still have bulls and he killed a 310ish bull in snow flurries an hour after daybreak… It was so cold and miserable we had to build a fire to process the bull and got out of the woods with the cape and all the meat we could muster by late afternoon. We got the bull checked in at the Taxi and at the meat shop that day. However, my packer (I always have a packer on a 2 on 1) and I had to wait out a nasty winter storm and could not return for the remaining meat till 3 days after we killed the bull. We then hiked the 4 mile round trip in 6-12 inches of snow,(slipped, tripped, and fell) I mean packed the nearly frozen, remaining meat out and got it to the butcher shop so that the entire elk could be processed at the same time. All told I had over 2 full weeks (17days) invested in this success story… I now have two more friends/clients for life… and another great story for around the fire… sure I had way better bulls on video than what we took that hunt, but that is why they call it hunting and not killing…and yes I hunted as hard (harder) the last days of the hunt. But that fully outfitted 2 on 1 hunt was $9K ($4500 per man)… and I was just told by those gents that if the tag comes again this year they have their deposit money ready. I hunt for people because I love being out there and it is a thing of Pride to me… however I have to make money while doing it, (same as any job)....and any really good guide does, too. I am not trying to “make a name for myself"… I am as far in the hunting world as I ever wanna be… I want my hunters to become friends not numbers… and I wanna hunt with them again (well most of them, HaHaHa). I only want to hunt a few guys a year because I want to give them 110% and love it at the end still. So chose a guy based on his knowledge of the unit, and his motives…. Not his price. Good luck and Congrats on the Tag!

15yrs + Bull Elk "Old Monarch of the Mountian"
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to WildHeritageTaxidermy's topic in Wild Heritage Taxidermy
This bull has a long history with my Son, Colton, (AKA the Golden Ticket) he had been picking up sheds off of this bull since back when he was a 400+ inch bull... We looked for him every year and could never find him, the last couple of years we had watched the size of his beams and tops shrink..His 2010 sheds were about 350"ish. Finally with in the closing days of the late rifle hunt in 2011 we spotted him up feeding in the wide open in the late morning sunshine! We ran up there and my hunter was able to put this old Mammoth bull down... I wish we would have taken photos of how much larger this bull's head was than any other bull brought into Dale's shop that hunt. Simply the biggest head on a bull elk I have ever seen!! his last teeth were literally falling out of his head and this mount looks EXACTLY like the bull did on the hoof!! Nice work Dale thatnks for doing this old giant justice!! As this old bull sits mounted he scores about 320'ish with only 40" main beams.... he is all fronts!! -

Thanks all! Yes we have celebrated the the pups, (and Momma) being healthy and arriving well! We are excited for the weeks ahead! It is fun to put out a litter of pups that is in demand and has homes before it is even born! We breed this pair because we feel that the disposition and physical apearance is what we have always looked for in a dog... so for us this is a very fun time getting to share all this with family and new friends! Here is our 3rd born pup and he will be going home with CW.com member, AzHuntAtty, and he is already the pistol of our 2 male pups! His name is now Bullet!- 49 replies

Same as the raw "eatable" bones the chicken pictured is "bone in", eggshells are a great source of calcium and she is putting out a ton of milk so you can imagine how that depletes her own levels... We don't feed dog food or supliments... we feed our dogs just like a wolf eats in nature.- 49 replies
