If you add moth balls, make sure it's Naphthalene and not 1,4 dichlorobenzine.

The paradichlorobenzine with create hydrochloric acid.

You might just buy some toluene at the paint store and add this instead.

I know some guys add acetone to clean CATS up.  They still a special additive to do this.

The classic insurance is a big risk because of you are in violation and have a claim they will deny it.

You are correct ... it can be risky if not used for intended use. I rarely drive mine on the weekends and one even has the motor out of it now but I keep the coverage for weather damages or theft attempts and what not.

Also this...  insurance is key. It can be insurance as classic/ collecter car insurance which will waive the emissions once the insurance provides the mvd with the information that you have that coverage. Their are alot of  "restrictions " that the insurance company tells you that you have to follow or abide by, age might be one of them. Mileage limitations, garage kept, and usually have to provide photos of the vehicle. I also had them ask for a picture of my garage once as proof from one company.

Copper historic vehicle plate will not qualify you to be emissions exempt.

Ive had mine for coming up on 3 years... no emissions.

When i finally had all the paperwork in hand and went to the dmv (with proof of classic ins) i "needled" the guy.  I said, "ok, you as my representative to all things dmv related for this truck... what are the limitations of use for driving with a historic plate and  collectors insurance?" he said, "oh we got nothing to do with any of that, that's on your insurance company."

My ins broker set it up through Hagerty, and they never asked me about existing mileage or anything of the sort.  i do not have a "garage kept" clause or anything like that.  Its a lifted dually that wont fit in my garage, so thats good news for me. ha ha

I got it towed once, and they never asked any information for any of that.

----

My brother's best friend in tucson has a square body, and pretty much the same thing. No garage on the house... and he said its "supposed to be" limited use, but they never asked him either.

I know there is a different plate/category that is something like "parade use" for classic cars... and that has heavy restrictions on mileage

Nice. Ya I didn't have the garage question from hagerty, but I did when my coverage was thru American Family. I don't know who they had write the policy for them or if it was a their own or third party, buy they were the stricter one of the two. There a few other companies that offer it as well that do it a little differently. I have experience with those two companies.
