IA Born Report post Posted Wednesday at 02:21 AM 2 hours ago, firstcoueswas80 said: My boy and I leave tomorrow for his first elk hunt. I read this with a giant grin on my face. My absolute favorite part was "All these young kids filling their first tags is a great thing. I have a lifetime of chasing elk in front of me." There are plenty of full grown, very experienced adults that could learn a lesson from that sentence alone. I also commend you for letting him go alone. I don't know that I could do that, then again my boy is only 12, maybe when he is older.... Thanks, Casey! He's wise beyond his years and I agree. I know several adults who would never say that. As for letting him go solo, Its only been the last 3 or so years that I've allowed it and it started with archery stalks on his youth javelina hunts. The first time I let him go, I was a nervous wreck, but I had two others that I trust explicitly there to control the situation so I could be in dad-mode and worry until I knew he was ok. Definitely not when he was 12. I still give him the dad talk and I get that 17yo eye roll! 😂
