Game and Fish's website says,

Areas: By far, the majority of antelope in GMU 17B reside on the Las Vegas, Bar Triangle, and Long Meadow ranches in the northeastern part of the unit. These ranches are predominantly private property, and hunting is allowed by permission only and may involve an access fee.

A few pronghorn can also be found in the northwestern portion of the unit, west of the U. S. Forest boundary. These animals frequently move back and forth across Camp Wood Road, which is also the boundary between Units 17B and 18B.

And it's the truth. It's tough to get in there for sure.

Get a map and find the public land--it is there but there are small pockets. Make sure you get maps from the BLM and the state, and national Forest. If a landowner try's to make you leave you will have the maps to show you are on public land. The good thing about 17B is that it is posted but it could be posted where public is at so that is why you need maps.

We got the maps and have seen all the private property. We also checked out the public land, but did not see any goats. It also looks like there are no water tanks on the public land. We will both be going up there a lot this summer to learn everything we can about the unit. Thanks for the info everyone.

check your maps really close for water tanks north of the Las Vegas ranch, and don't believe all the KEEP OUT signs you see some are on state land, and look for windmills in the same areas. good luck on your hunt B)

azoutlaw,

how long ago did you have the tag? I will look up the ranch, thanks for the information. How was your hunt up there? Did you sit water or did you have any spot and stalk oppertunities? Got any pics of your buck?

I have heard that access fees for the Long Meadow and Vegas ranches are getting higher than the simple donation years ago to the volunteer fire department. The WM or regional office should have contact info for you friend.
