That is awesome use of resources .........great job......so which paddle is the best for ping pong anyway.......flat smooth rubber, dimpled rubber....sandpaper???

As per physics.......

Depends if you play with an offensive or defensive style.

Now that AIMS testing is over I have time for a more thorough response.

If you are able to cut the ball you would want a smooth soft rubber with a high coefficient of friction. The friction will apply a component of force tangent to the surface of the ball, creating torque which will cause an angular acceleration. The ball will now have spin.

If you are not able to cut the ball or do not know how to return a ball that has spin you would want a paddle with a low coefficient of friction, such as flat wood. With minimal friction between the paddle and the ball you will minimize the torque on the spinning ball when it contacts your paddle and it will leave in a direction closer to perpendicular to the face of the paddle (the direction you are trying to hit it).

The funny part is that you are so right. Young kids with cell phones is a scary thought.
