oz31p Report post Posted April 21, 2015 I have killed Merriam's in 22 23 27. I think generally speaking our general season is too late to really entice mature Tom's in with a decoy. By time our seasons open Tom's are hened up. There the occasional situation where near mid day hens are out laying eggs you may catch him alone. Jakes are a complete different story. I've found the best tactic is to assume any gobbling Tom is with hems and aggravate the lead hen. If you can challenge her she will come in. If she does the Tom will follow.
