Guest akaspecials Report post Posted October 27, 2016 I've heard conflicting stories regarding the legality of trail cameras in wilderness areas and I can't find any regulations specifying one way or the other. Are trail cameras legal in designated wilderness areas? Supporting documentation would be much appreciated. Â Thanks.
MULEPACKHUNTER Report post Posted October 27, 2016 I don't have paperwork but if you read the wilderness act and suggested leave no trace practices on fs web sites it's a no go. I was in contact with fs a while back and verbally they said no they are not allowed. I still find cameras but I talked to 2 different station leaders and got the same answer. I was also told by game and fish they would be confiscated if found.
Havasuhunter Report post Posted February 5, 2017 I basically just got death threats on another page for suggesting they are illegal in the wilderness and should be removed. It's too bad hunters can't have a civil discussion on this one. We'll be the leaders of our eviction from public land if we can't. Leave no trace seems pretty simple. I don't see why you couldn't use one close to where you are camping for a few days and pack it out when you leave though?
