My experience may not be helpful to all, but it worked for me.

A number of years ago, I did the Walk For Hunger in Boston.  It's a long walk of 20 miles, but not especially difficult terrain.

Anyhoo, the first couple years I did it, I had a few blisters.  The last year (I think it was) was 1999.  My wife was pregnant with our daughter so I was on my own.

I coated my feet (don't remember where I heard of this) in Vaseline, put my socks on and off I went.  IIRC, I did the walk in 4.5 hours with nary a blister in sight.
