New Mexico Elk
I wasn’t one of the lucky ones in the draw for Az,but I did draw a tag for New Mexico.I went over 3 weeks prior to the opener, and built blinds on a couple waters.Opening morning found me chasing bugling bulls, and having a great time.I passed on a couple bulls,a 4 point, and a spike.I went to a water that I had faith in about 1 o’clock in the afternoon.I had sat there abut 6 hours when I heard a rock roll behind me.The back of the blind was open,so I didn’t move to look around. After looking for about 3-4 minutes the bull decided to come in.He passed by the blind at 3 yds on my right side and went down to the water at 25 yds.I had drawn my bow,and he was quartering away, with his left side exposed. The arrow hit halfway back angling forward, through the top of the heart, and out the base of the neck.He took off like a racehorse, and only made it 60yds,going down within sight.I love these trailing jobs when you see them go down!!!!
