Late Archery Hunt

Recommended Posts

Yea same thing here, Hitting the water at night pretty crazy how much that little rain storm changed everything. Seen some really nice bulls and one toad just couldn't seem to catch up with any of them. I may try and head back out the last few days if work will let me. Good luck to everyone I know how hard its been.

It was pretty tough. They were watering in the pitch black dark. But some were at last light. I killed one at last light. My buddy got busted at last light and another buddy had several bull water at last light and either never presented a good shot or passed because they were smaller bulls.

yea it was a rough hunt, Weird had elk on camera every day prior to the hunt the day before I didn't and never seen a elk in 8 days. Went out Tuesday night and was going to hunt Wednesday and Thursday. Ended up getting another flat and decided to leave about 4:30 Wednesday night Luckily I made it home with 3 plugs in my sidewall. Guess its time to get ready for January deer.

Same thing here, Elk all watered late. Snow would have made things a whole lot easier. it was so hot and dry sounded like walking on bubble wrap. My best chance came early the last day but I was cursed by fog rolling in. Was my first late hunt and came home empty but will do it again, any day hunting is better than sitting on a couch.

I took a broken raghorn and was thankful to do it. Had a lot of elk coming in but battled swirling winds, and got busted quite a few times. I'll post up some pics later.

I had a tag in 8 and was my first attempt at a bull and archery. I had a muzzleloader cow tag last year and we were in them every day, but that wasn't the case this year. It was so hot they watered at night and I never caught up with them. I heard a group move through a couple hundred yards away with about 5 minutes of shooting light left and heard a group in the distance as I arrived at a water hole 45 minutes before light. I followed track for hours but the ground was so dry that it took forever to gain ground while being half way quiet. In the mornings we found fresh track over our four wheeler tracks from the night before. I did bump a group of Javelina off a hill by a water hole and had one show up at last light. I had a lot of fun though and found some cool new areas. I have a buddy with a rifle cow tag and hope he has better luck.
