My buddy's Dad just smoked a decent bull in 4B this morning.

So...is everyone that complained in the thread about the special draw going to boycott the draw? Sure would be hypocritical if you apply....🤣

Why they call it hunting and not killing. Tough break Travis. I know you put in the time and effort. But sometimes things just go awry.
-
Maybe.... We ruled out LRF, and suppressor.

12ga or 20ga? -
Awesome buck! Congrats Jacob!

Definitely qualifies as "Dream Buck" status.

Should the .257 VLDs be 115gr? Not 110gr?

You know how much AZGFD will make off apps alone??? I know I will be applying

Could have hit the "no-man's land" just under the spine and above the lungs. Nicked a lung just enough to cause the deer to bleed some and pass out. Deer got his wind back, and boogied out. I have seen that happen before.

Man, I thought this sold a while ago. Had a buddy I thought picked it up. Guess not. GLWS.

I would say he is a 165" mainframe with some extras. 175-182"ish gross. Not overly wide, average mass, weak G3 on his left hurts him. Even right G3 is average. Nice buck, and depending on unit and time of year, probably a shooter. A solid mature buck.

Interesting. Was at the range today, and a guy 2 benches down had the same issue with his new Fierce 28 Nosler and factory Nosler ammo. Barely able to lift the bolt with two hands, major case head swipes, flattened and cratered primers, soot all over the case head.

Ummmm.....the classified section here?

What does "extra bullets and primers" mean? I cannot comprehend "Extra".

A 400 yard shot, dialing approximately 4MOA, would NOT cause a 4-5' miss OVER an animal. Even if the LRF showed 400 yards and 4MOA, and the deer was actually 100 yards, you are talking 4-6" high. And if you verified zero at camp afterwards. And not with TWO different rifles having the same issue. As we discussed, I still think it is a suppressor issue. That is a common denominator in both cases. The only other one is the LRF, but if you only dialed about 4MOA, that almost eliminates the LRF possibility. I will be at Joe Foss on Saturday. Come out and we will check it. I will bring a bore scope to look for baffle strike. Highly unlikely you had two scopes go bad in the exact same way (has to be a tracking issue), but not impossible. You didn't happen to hit some sort of object out of the barrel did you? Or have the barrel/suppressor touching an object? To hit it 4-5 times doesn't sound likely, but you never know.

I wouldn't go TOO far off the main roads up there with a trailer on a late hunt. Never know with weather. Could be 60* or could dump 36" of snow.

170" mule deer.

Good price. I LOVE mine. Gamechanger for glassing.

Smith Peak is a tough area to hunt. I see more bighorn on it that deer, but I have seen some good bucks on top. I would be looking at catching some deer coming into or out of the fields around the area.

Good price!

Really? Hoping someone mitigates the loss is a "dick thing to say"? Losing a $250 rifle sure would be easier to handle than a $5k custom. To the OP, I hope it gets returned. There are good people out there. Too bad it is only about 10% of us.

Your Pops has a killer Van Dyke! Congrats on the elk!

A blind, made of steel, usually in Detroit, with a motor and 4 wheels.....

I heard of guys on the early hunt seeing 200" bucks, but they were tough to hunt. I did not see many brutes taken. I bet the big Magnum burn really changed the landscape up there. Meaning relearning the unit on the west side. In another 2-5 years, watch what happens if we get the moisture going like the late summer rains we had. Came too late for the northern units, but the desert units will probably be great this year. Not to sound harsh, but a lot of the guides are using "Detroit Blinds" almost exclusively. If the bucks are in the transition, those guides won't be seeing them. Also, with most tanks holding water, the bucks are spread out instead of congregating to the GFD trick tanks like the last few years. Thus, saying the unit sucks. I would bet the late hunt is going to be a different story if the bucks keep moving down.
