    Elk Trophy Pickup Fail

Between my buddy and I we have 13 mounts completed by Chris Krueger and none of them took longer than a year to get back.Congrats on your bull. Its always a long wait, but end the end, you have the best type of artwork money can buy. Chris Krueger has done my last 4 pieces (plus one currently there). It was about 13 months for my last deer. The longest any of them took. His work is amazing. But 2.5 years is crazy talk. I am sorry for his health issues, but no way.I do agree it is a great bull. Congrats. And your wife would HATE my house..... he had a turkey done for me in about 13 months , bear 2 years and badger 2years. Two of my friends had turkey in his shop a year ahead of mine and they got theirs 5 to 6 months after mine. I cant complain about his work, but dont tell people 12 months and take 24. I could not agree more with this statement. "but don't tell people 12 months and take 24." I have never had this happen to me though. I do know rugs take quite a bit longer though. His wife does the rug work, and from what I have seen, they are top notch.

    .25-35 Ammo?

I think most neck down and then trim & fire form from .30-30 brass. You will probably need a intermediate die, as .30 to .25 is a big jump. RCBS makes sizing dies I believe. Kowa Highlanders

I just asked my wife if I could buy a pair of used binos and she said, and I quote, "Ye......wait. How much are they?" When I showed her the price, she almost smacked me off my bar stool just now. Then said, and I quote, "You're an idiot." and walked away. Does that mean yes? She didn't say no....

Mule Deer Foundation Benefit - Saturday 5/16/15

Since I don't drink, and I am not all highfalutin', what is "cocktail attire", seriously? I have seen some boozers on Van Buren drinking from a paper bag, but I am sure that is not what you mean.....

    New way to score antlers

be right back, people are disappointed with a 350" bull now thanks to the internet Awesome!!! They can pass a 350" bull all day long, and I would come right behind those hunters and take the bull. I am not too proud for their "hand-me-downs".

    spotting scope dilemma!

15x56 over 20x binos for sure. But a great pair of 10x42s will find more game than a decent pair of 15s. I use my 10x42s for 90% of my glassing. I break out the 15s when I find something that needs to be looked at better, or when glassing at 1 mile+.

How long is powder good for?

I had some powder from my Dad that I remember sitting in his gun cabinet when I was a kid (25-30 years?). Loaded some up with it and it all went "bang".

    Child adoption

My hat is off to you sir. In all honesty, it is one of the highest callings you can answer. I do not know if you are a praying man or a Christian, but God will smile upon you in these trying times. While I am not a preacher, adoption always pulls at my heart strings. Read Job chapter 29, verse 12. I hope you are not offended by this post. 1 Job continued his discourse: 2 "How I long for the months gone by, for the days when God watched over me, 3 when his lamp shone upon my head and by his light I walked through darkness. 4 Oh, for the days when I was in my prime, when God's intimate friendship blessed my house, 5 when the Almighty was still with me and my children were around me, 6 when my path was drenched with cream and the rock poured out for me streams of olive oil. 7 "When I went to the gate of the city and took my seat in the public square, 8 the young men saw me and stepped aside and the old men rose to their feet; 9 the chief men refrained from speaking and covered their mouths with their hands; 10 the voices of the nobles were hushed, and their tongues stuck to the roof of their mouths. 11 Whoever heard me spoke well of me, and those who saw me commended me, 12 because I rescued the poor who cried for help, and the fatherless who had none to assist him. 13 The man who was dying blessed me; I made the widow's heart sing. 14 I put on righteousness as my clothing; justice was my robe and my turban. 15 I was eyes to the blind and feet to the lame. 16 I was a father to the needy; I took up the case of the stranger. 17 I broke the fangs of the wicked and snatched the victims from their teeth. 18 "I thought, 'I will die in my own house, my days as numerous as the grains of sand. 19 My roots will reach to the water, and the dew will lie all night on my branches. 20 My glory will remain fresh in me, the bow ever new in my hand.' 21 "Men listened to me expectantly, waiting in silence for my counsel. 22 After I had spoken, they spoke no more; my words fell gently on their ears. 23 They waited for me as for showers and drank in my words as the spring rain. 24 When I smiled at them, they scarcely believed it; the light of my face was precious to them. 25 I chose the way for them and sat as their chief; I dwelt as a king among his troops; I was like one who comforts mourners.

    New way to score antlers

It is all about the memories for me. And how hard I worked for them to earn my game. Would I like to get a 400" bull? Heck yes. But my daughter's 5x5 last year was the best bull I have ever had the pleasure of being a part of. I honestly doubt I will ever beat those memories. I know none of my personal game stories can beat that trip.

    new use for sheds

Dammit. My wife was looking over my shoulder when I was checking out this thread again. Now she wants me to build one.
  25. I agree with willhunt4coues on standard SAAMI chamberings. Sage advice on each post. For the wildcat stuff like Ackley Imp. rounds, or a lot of the new proprietary or match stuff, you HAVE to use once fired brass that has been fire formed to your chamber and then resized to spec. No getting around it. But those rounds are fun to load for. But, you still need to work up a load for your fire forming rounds too. I did the exact same routine while working up a load with new brass for my .25-06 Ackley. I did a ladder test, and then 3 round group test after I found a node, then a seating depth test for the HVLDs. It took a few rounds, but then I loaded up the rest of the 200 of the virgin .25-06 brass to fire form into the Ackley chambering. No harm in having super accurate fire forming loads. I have shot numerous prairie dogs with those rounds at 350-600 yards, plus some long range steel shooting to 1371 with them too. Only 42 more to go until I have 300 .25-06 Ackley Imp. brass. But I already have a load for the Ackley version as well. I just had to start all over with that brass.
