    trophy mule deer tag

Most will say the 13A/13B units, and I cannot disagree with them. I also think there are some great deer in 12AE/W too, but the late hunts are the way to go for those units. There are some dandies taken off the Bab every year. Of course, the biggest deer I have seen pictures of from last year (besides the pending P&Y world record typical from the Strip and pending SCI world record typical from the Strip) came from a desert unit. It crushes the P&Y deer in score, but it is a MONSTER non-typical. I mean MONSTER. And there were quite a few monsters taken out of the desert last year.
  2. Not to dissuade you from a .338, but a .300RUM or .30-378 Weatherby, shooting 210/215/230/240 grain bulles has enough energy for elk size game (1500ft/lbs) out to 1100+. More with the heavies. The big .338s and 300gr. Bergers/SMKs can carry those numbers out to 1600+. But if your criteria is "only" 800 yards, you have a ton of options in .308 to 338" bores. Anything you choose from .300WSM and up will do more than you could want.

    300 WSM brass

I don't see new .300WSM brass going for less than $1/case. I have seen it as low as $1.10/case when you can find it in a 100 pack for the cheap stuff. 50 packs go up in price per piece. 25 packs go for $130+ each. You can buy loaded rounds from $1.75-$4.00/round and shoot that and use the brass afterwards, but you are still going to have once fired brass to start reloading with.

    New 6.5 SLR Build

I swung in a grabbed a pound today. Thanks Harley. And anyone who claims Bruno's gouges on price needs to shop around. Randall's is charging the same amount, which I gladly paid to get some powder in my hot little hands. And I have been busy loading tonight too!

    300 WSM brass

As hard as this stuff is to find, that is a smoking deal! Kind of wish I had a .300WSM now.

    Not your average May morning

I was on Humboldt yesterday, and it was 42° at 8:00am.

Elk palmation racks, lets see them!

Those sheds look very much like a bull we saw a few times we called "Webhead" about 15 years ago that a lot of locals knew. Then saw another bull about 5 years ago in the same area that was similar. Father son or gramps son is what we were thinking. And the hill in the background looks very much like where we saw them both near.

Shooting with camo netting on the face?

There are face covers that are tight fitting with a large opening for nose/eyes. I use these while predator hunting. I have shot my bow with them quite a bit while archery hunting as well. I can feel the string on my nose, and my nock at my jawline. Plus, they do not grab the string when you release.

    WTB H1000

Did you call them to check on it? I am sure they would LOVE to ship it out and charge your card. Stuff sitting in the store does not make them money. But getting it out to customers pays the bills. It is very possible something fell through the cracks, but if you don't check on it, it will stay lost. It happens with every dealer out there, so I don't think they are doing it intentionally.

    Macho B in the news

You guys are all too negative. Look at the positive side of this....one less deer killer around. The cup is half full...... In all seriousness, the loss of the Jag is sad news. To see one in the wild would be amazing, and now this chance is gone. Things were screwed up big time. Proper individuals were not reprimanded for their actions. SNAFU. But the cat was 16 years old. Average life span in the wild is 12-15 years. Not saying the snare did not speed up the process, but this cat had to be on his last tour if he was, in fact, 16 years old. Of course, that could be a fabrication to help the spin as well. It states the cat was drawn in using feces from a female Jag. How many of us have NOT been snared by the smell of female pu...ahem...part of the cycle of life and death. You chase the tail and get snared, game over.

    unit 10 Bulls

With a good guide service, a 380"+ bull is very possible. With the rains early this spring, maybe even better. With a DIY hunt with limited scouting time, I would be thrilled with a 360"+ bull. That is my opinion. And I would be really hard pressed to pass a 360" bull opening morning. Even after a 16-17 year wait between elk hunts.

    NYFD Woman Fails Test

I am all for hiring anyone who passes the tests. Black, white, red, yellow, green, purple, male, female, straight, gay, etc. But would YOU want her to be the one person who has to save your life by pulling you from a burning building? heck no. A 17:50 time limit on the test, and she completes it one out of 5 times with a time of 22:00??? WTF NY? Equality does not equal special treatment.

I have reported game violations (or suspected violations) many times. From downright witnessing poaching to finding game with just the head removed (wanton waste of game), to finding fresh kills out of season. I have had both immediate responses from G&F and the brushoff. I am sure G&F are busier than heck, so I just do my part and can't do any more. Just because you report it does not mean you will get a response. I have had the same happen with other branches of LEOs as well. They all have to pick their battles by level of importance as they see fit.

    unit 10 Bulls

I have some photos of a 10 bull that makes the last one look like a raghorn, but I can't find them! Kind of blurry as it was right before sunup and the bull was trotting along, but definitely discernible how big he is.....I'll keep looking.

    State Champions

Congrats!!! Soccer is most popular sport around the world. Just saying. I played for 13 years, and 7 of those years were all year long, both multiple indoor & outdoor leagues. There is no other team sport that requires the stamina of the players in my opinion.

I doubt any elk shot during the 2013 or 2014 would have any semblance of "fresh" flesh. It should be totally legal to take home, and then attempt to find the unsuccessful hunter if so desired. I applaud the efforts of the person asking if anyone lost one. I would remove it from the field myself with no qualms. Read below: R12-4-322. Pickup and Possession of Wildlife Carcasses or Parts A. For the purposes of this Section, the following definitions apply: 1. “Fresh” means the majority of the wildlife carcass or part is not exposed dry bone and is comprised mainly of hair, hide, or flesh. 2. “Not fresh” means the majority of the wildlife carcass or part is exposed dry bone due to natural processes such as scavenging, decomposition, or weathering. B. If not contrary to federal law or regulation, an individual may pick up and possess naturally shed antlers or horns or other wildlife parts that are not fresh without a permit or inspection by a Department officer. C. If not contrary to federal law or regulation, an individual may only pick up and possess a fresh wildlife carcass or its parts under this Section if the individual notifies the Department prior to pick up and possession and: 1. The Department’s first report or knowledge of the carcass or its parts is voluntarily provided by the individual wanting to possess the carcass or its parts; 2. A Department law enforcement officer is able to observe the carcass or its parts at the site where the animal was found in the same condition and location as when the animal was originally found by the individual wanting to possess the carcass or its parts; and 3. A Department law enforcement officer, using the officer’s education, training, and experience, determines the animal died from natural causes. The Department may require the individual to take the officer to the site where the animal carcass or parts were found when an adequate description or location cannot be provided to the officer. D. If a Department law enforcement officer determines that the individual wanting to possess the carcass or its parts is authorized to do so under subsection ©, the officer may authorize possession of the carcass or its parts. E. Wildlife parts picked up and possessed from areas under control of jurisdictions that prohibit such activity, such as other states, reservations, or national parks, are illegal to possess in this state. F. This Section does not authorize the pickup and possession of a threatened or endangered species carcass or its parts.

    Azg&f why 400 youth tags in 12a

Like Trphyhntr said, I have been in a LOT more dangerous situations on the Bab by other idiot adult hunters. Other areas as well. Been shot at numerous times by morons shooting at "something moving". Just glad they were as bad of shots as they were at target identification.
