I did. And I'm not really going to go all out using this thing, just some aerial shots. F&G Rules dictate you can't even touch a drone two days before a hunt.

Does it still tow well that high up? Any other modifications other than the kit? I have a 04' F250..

Interesting topic.. And you know, most of us have seen something we can't explain. We're out in the middle of nowhere and look up in the sky.. What the heck was that?! (Actually, that's a better topic than Bigfoot) Does Bigfoot exist? Prolly not. Someone would have found them by now I'd think. But you never know.. And if he does, he's probably not that harmful. You don't see many news stories of lost folks being found eviscerated. (Other than the random bear).

+1 on Gaia GPS. I deleted topomaps app for IOS and got the Gaia instead because it tracks where you go. I carry a spare battery/usb type to plug into in the middle of nowhere, and the Goal Zero system for solar recharging. I just got the apple watch- looking forward to seeing how it does.

My newest addition is 4 months old. Bear needs a pack- we have scouting to do and these are some fantastic suggestions. Thanks for sharing!

How does Joe Teti survive in the wild? Coddddyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!

It's a great deal. I wish I had the $$.

There's a herd in 18b. They run with a pack of Javelinas as well. Odd, I know.

Half the fun is scouting. Just one more reason to leave the city and go play!
-
Yeah- 7E in December for Cow. I'll be doing a ton of scouting this year in that unit. Never been there but from the looks of google maps pics I'll enjoy the scouting as much as the hunt. I'm thinking I'll start west side/middle and work east. Or does anyone have a good general area to start scouting? I'll be going 3 days at a time.. I'll have time to cover a lot of area, I hope. I can keep an eye out for bulls too..

Same. I've never been there before, but I'm heading out in Dec for the Cow. I'll be spending quite a few weekends between then and now in 7E!!
-
Yup. I'm doing Cow in 7E in Dec! Not the Bull I was hoping for, but I'll take it gladly!
-
Yup. My Bull Elk turned into a 7E Cow Hunt, and I still feel lucky!

If you think about it, in a normal situation, it really is. But I work with 3 other managers- and it's near Thanksgiving. There has to be coverage- so the sooner I get this OK'd the better.

I know they get to it when they get to it, but I'm taking two weeks off for this hunt.(Tons of scouting!) I need to solidify those days off for work ASAP.

Well, I think it's time to upgrade. I was lucky on the Elk Draw, and now I'm planning my first ever Elk hunt. I'm going to be using a 7400 Remington 30-06, and I need to get a scope for it. I'd like it to be at least able to hit 500 yards. Im thinking of a Viper BDC system- something under a grand that's reliable and has a great warranty. I have no experience with Vipers but I hear great things. Anyone use a Viper BDC on a '06?

First time archery elk hunting Unit 6B - Advice on materials and scouting
Jazz replied to CouesHunterAZ's topic in Elk Hunting
Great topic, this is my first elk hunt as well. So yeah, I'll have to get some calls- mine will be rifle though not archery. I think I got a 4a Late Bull, but we'll see when the results come out. I hear the Under Armour 4.0 base layers are warm.. -
Capitol One. Pending. The alert wasn't triggered yet, I had to go in and look.
-
Woohoo! I'm hoping theres still hope for the boys! looks like it might be a 4a late bull!
-
Got hit for $135! Is that the adult hunt or two juniors? I can't remember!

Got an email from fish and game this morning: Portal account holders will be among the first to get the news before the draw results officially are released. Its quick, easy and free to create a Portal account. Just click on the Sign in to Account button in the upper right-hand corner of the www.azgfd.gov home page and then select the Create an Account option, filling in the requested information. The Portal allows customers to create a secure account where they can manage and view their contact information, as well as their license and draw results information and bonus points, in their personal My AZ Oudoors section. A Portal account is mobile-friendly, which means customers can view their information on their smartphone. Its also a convenient way to gain access to the online license purchase and hunt draw application systems. Meanwhile, the random draw process remains on schedule and should be completed by mid-April. The department is aware that applicants are eager to learn whether they will be receiving a hunt-permit. The department will post an announcement on its website and Facebook page when results officially are released. All permit-tags and refunds are expected to be mailed by April 22. .. Sigh
