I will say, I'm guessing all of the summer pressure has to have something to do with it.. those animals are pushed back and moved daily it seems all summer long. Back in the day, it seemed that 2nd week was always lit up (combination of less woods traffic and later in Sept). But maybe that is just nostalgia. Now it seems 100% hit or miss.

I was lucky enough to draw bull tags in the same unit in '20, '21 and '23 and my son drew in '22 and all 4 years the rut activity was quite different. '20 seemed to get better as the season went on although pockets of activity from the get go and then shut down and then kick back up and then shut down. '21 was just insane from the start and never stopped. '22 was a wet year and every storm seemed to shut them down but they would start back up after a day or two of dry weather and '23, it just got continually worse and worse with similar reports all over the unit. '22 was the latest in terms of calendar year and we kept thinking it would get better and better like '21 but it just got worse with every storm. I have tried to understand weather, temperature, moon phase, calendar etc on what kicks them in gear and every time I think I have it figured it out - they prove me wrong. I guess they are ready when they are ready.

With all due respect - I'm still confused about how this unduly effects the disabled hunting community. All the same equipment is available (besides magnified scopes right?). Just requires a MD vs anyone with a pen. Is it more difficult to get that appt, I'm sure but I see my md annually, I would guess I could get the signature each year then if I had the need for it. Maybe I'm missing something. In terms of the units turning to draw - that is as much as a populous problem as anything in my book. The woods if full from April through Sept like never before. In terms of who brought this up to the commission - I don't know but I do know I have talked to around a dozen different G&F LEOs in the last 3-4 years (most of the time at the expo when they are all there) and everyone has the same story/experience I do. Healthy looking men carrying xbows/airbows youth shooting game with xbows/airbows.. I have seen it multiple times myself and those guys are in the field 50X more than I am - it's a real issue that it was abused by many many people. It needs to be regulated and how they do it, that is on them and so far - it seems fair. It's all still available, just need to prove it vs 'sore shoulder' guy. And those of you on this site that have abused it or have seen friends/kids abuse it - feel free to chime in - lol.

Champ permit holders using bipods or sticks would not concern me. Hope they rethink that one. The rest seems like a necessity to try and keep it in hands of those that actually need it.

Be mad at the DHs that abused it. Guys that had their 10 year olds shooting xbow because the kid didn’t put in the work or the dude holding a 80lb head and rack above is head but couldn’t pull 50lbs all of a sudden. Lots and lots of examples.

All for champ hunts and xbow - just for those that need it vs anyone pos that has a “sore shoulder”. Nothing wrong with regulation to keep it fair from those that abuse the intent.
