Just made 65lbs of summer sausage and 5lbs of jerky out of last years 4 pigs and haven't had anyone yet say anything but good and can I have more. 5 in the cooler right now and thinking another batch of chorizo or breakfast sausage for 1/2 and then keep the rest of summer sausage toward the end of the year.

What requirements to be considered a HAM pistol?
jdown replied to WhtMtnHunter's topic in Handgun Hunting for Coues Deer
I'm hoping the G@F depts across the country are revisiting both muzzleloader regulations (1000 yard mls now) and handgun hunts. I'm assuming success rates have increased dramatically in both the last 5 years or so for all species. Not exactly as primitive as they once were. -
That's me. I've been meaning to call Wes. I used to talk to him pretty regularly up until about a year and lost touch. I was at the savage plant last month and talked to a few guys about him He was spending a lot of time in ca but after he lost a few lines moved back here.

I was there from 92-03 (The Sportsman in the Pete Shepley days) and then Az Sportsmans when Glen and Shirley bought the then 3 stores in 93 from Pete (mesa, phx, and Glendale) then closed the West store and eventually opened the North store and bought the 2 Jensens stores in Tucson and eventually Shooters World. I managed the Camelback store for a year or two and then the Mesa store for 3 before I got out as the big boys were coming in and there was no way Glen was going to be able to last. I did a lot of the buying and ordering so Lots of shot shows and other buying shows along with rep and warehouse interactions and always enjoyed the products and customers. I still keep in touch with a few reps as well and started prostaffing for Vista outdoors the last 4-5 years and now with Savage since Vista sold them. I can't get industry out of my blood.

Thanks all. Back at work and found the picture of the first time we did it 3 years ago so added. 2 years ago my sons were skinning theirs as I was getting on mine so no picture of the 3 together. Last year was rough with that snow on opening day and my one son and I played hooky on the first nice day and killed 2 and the other one made it a longer season but got it done the last weekend I think it was. Anyway, all good times and good luck to all!

I was going to say how brave of you to hunt pigs with only 2 arrows. Lol. Nicely done!

Just checking on the idea of chambering a round and then releasing the firing mechanism with the bolt... I get that it will not go off when releasing, but most bolt actions won't allow you to go to safety when not cocked therefore nothing blocking the firing pin from a potential slam fire. I get the idea of not relying on a safety to do this (hence don't carry with a round in either) but man that just seems like an accident waiting to happen. On some bolt actions, I've even seen the firing pin protrude a bit in a relaxed position, now you have the pin up against the primer... Would scare me more than relying on the safety actually. I might be way off on this one, but not something I have even considered doing.

Anyone know a .243 Pelt Friendly Load?
jdown replied to broadhead's topic in Predator Hunting and Trapping
+1 on paritions as long as you don't hit the shoulder. -
I chamber when I'm closing in on animal or when ready to shoot. Not during typical carry to glassing location or back to vehicle etc
