  1. Great boots, just a hair too big for me. I need them to be perfectly sized for the hunting I'm planning to use them for. I can return to Cabela's but figured I'd offer for a good deal here first. SIZE 12 EE (wide) Regular price is over $350, I'll let them go for $200. Purchased early January from Cabela's. Have worn a total of 5 days so they are just about broken in. No significant wear- I can text photos if you are seriously interested. http://www.cabelas.com/product/cabela-s-124-meindl-men-s-200-gram-alaskan-hunter-trade-boots/1995551.uts I'm in the Laveen/Avondale/Glendale area regularly.
  2. 12 in Meindl's or another brand? You may be surprised with the room in these.

    withdraw my elk application

I was drawn for an elk hunt in another state at nearly the same time as the hunts I put in for. So, if drawn, I won't be able to hunt. As you can imagine, I'd rather this scenario not come to life and would like to maintain my bonus points. As such, my question is: Am I able to withdraw my Arizona application somehow? Or, is there another loophole that you can suggest? If drawn and my credit card number is bad, what happens then? Thanks for the help.

    withdraw my elk application

Thanks, guys. Edit: Sorry if this is a question I could've found through forum searches but I figured I'd be helped much quicker starting a thread than searching or trying to piece an answer together wading thorugh the draw regulations.

    I DREW A TAG!!

Alaska results came out today. I drew a tag for the first rifle season Oct 1-15 for those big 'ol Roosevelt elk!! I've been eyeing the hunt for a few years and finally got a crew together that was as excited to do it as I was. Applied as two 2-man parties. The other party didn't draw the elk tag, but they'll each get a bear tag that they can use to harvest a bear or a blacktail. Only 1 other non-resident was drawn out of the 50 tags, he is from Oregon. The other 47 tag holders are local so they'll definitely have the upper-hand. Anyone ever hunt elk in Alaska before or have any run-ins with them when hunting other species?

I've heard about the corked boots... what is the advantage there? Stiffness, or shock-absorption? I contemplated this pair of meindl's because they were corked. http://www.cabelas.com/product/cabela-s-124-meindl-men-s-perfekt-8482-10-34-hunter-boots/748348.uts But, I ended up going with these instead based on the compatibility with crampons, the full rubber rand, and the super stiff soles. I've worn them in the AZ mountains a couple of times this winter "breaking them in" and plan to do more hiking with them this spring to continue making sure I am completely comfortable with them before entrusting them to a 7-10 day hunt in this terrain. http://www.cabelas.com/product/cabela-s-124-meindl-men-s-200-gram-alaskan-hunter-trade-boots/1995551.uts

    Carp reports

I've got a dedicated fishing rig. A lot of guys will convert an old bow, but a lot of bow manufacturers make bowfishing specific models.

Gentlemen, I'm new to the valley and haven't actively looked for a bowfishing spot yet. Have bowfishing gear, will travel. Any tips or open boat seats appreciated!

Dang, no opportunities, or what? How many days were you after it with the rifle? That was the second rifle hunt, correct? How was the weather? Thanks for the information and I really appreciate you offering it up. I'm sure I'll message you once I really get into the planning!! Was out for 7 days. No opportunities. I had the Governor's permit and was able to hunt all of sep with archery and all of October with a rifle. I was there early sep and the first week of October. Weather was horrific both times. dang... that rally gives me some confidence haha!
  17. WHAT??? Lol, literally not one of those exercises strengthen muscles used to draw a bow. Having strength in your triceps/chest on your brace arm side might be helpful, but the majority of the draw (horizontal abduction) is done with middle and posterior deltoid, infraspinatus, teres minor, latissimus dorsi, and a sprinkling of trapezius and rhomboids. If you go to a gym: Pullups/cable pulldowns, horizontal rows (single arm dumbell, AND two-arm cable/barbell) will give you the most bang for your buck. some REVERSE pec-fly ^^ or lateral dumbell raises as secondary exercises do not hurt. No gym: Pullups, horizontal rows (single arm bent over with something heavy in your hand), band work as stated above will be a good mobility tool, but will only help with strengthening up to a point.

    Hunt Namibia, Africa!

Definitely should've gotten a deal on those with broken horns-still trophies for sure, but most Outfitters would discount them. I've known them to cut trophy fees in half for animals that have a bit of a crooked horn or even a tip that is broken off. I'll be in Namibia in late July-August with Aru Game Lodge hosting a couple of hunting groups- really looking forward to hunting it and comparing it to what I saw in South Africa this past June. I shot a couple trophies there and am just getting them home this week. Price tag on getting those suckers home, OUCH!!! I will more than likely not be shooting any animals in Namibia unless its to cull some jackals or baboons.

    I DREW A TAG!!

DIY. I'll be with a friend who I party drew with and potentially two others. Plane ticket to ketchikan is 500 ish, tag is 300, air taxi will be another 800ish per person after multiple flights. Otherwise just food and gear on top of that... Oh and shipping back meat/trophy if successful

    I DREW A TAG!!

http://www.longrangehunting.com/forums/f17/long-range-elk-hunt-coming-up-fast-soon-24328/ There it is. I remember reading your thread long before I ever thought about applying. Never saw any posts about how you ended up doing after you went back the second time with your rifle. How'd it turn out?

    I DREW A TAG!!

308Nut, I've read your post verbatim on another forum did you just copy and paste that over? I specifically remember reading about stepping into a hole up to your nuts and the he'll on earth line. My research told me the challenge that this hunt would be. I'm looking forward to it very much.
