Wildlife of Yellowstone

He wasn’t pissed but he was on a mission to cross a road and a bunch of cars kept slowing down to watch him. He just wanted to get on his way! -

2022 Coues Rut Video
AzRaised08 replied to Ozzy's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Just came across this post, pretty cool seeing that small dude with a deformed antler on the right side. Wonder if that’s genetics or something else. And the last buck was a good size, funny he took a squat in front of the camera haha. Thanks for sharing!! -
Sounds like an epic adventure! Keep us posted on how it goes and share lots of photos. Hope you snag some big ones!

Wow that’s a super lucky draw and I’m glad everything came together for him! Congrats on a beautiful ram and successful hunt. Thanks for sharing your story!

Wow that’s great you were able to get into so many elk but I’m sure it stings with those misses. The important thing though is you learned a lot and already know what to do better next time. Thanks for taking us along on the hunt with the great write up!

Dang that is a tough break, but that’s great you kept looking and were at least able to recover the head. Hoping the taxidermist is able to make him look as good as he was! Thanks for sharing the story

Heavier than my heaviest dream buck
AzRaised08 replied to Mathews's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Holy smokes that is a stud! I bet your heart was racing there for a sec as he turned before the arrow got there. Congrats on a great buck! Super cool drop tine -
From what I can tell, things seem to be better than last year. And the elk bodies do seem bigger and overall healthier. Looking forward to a great season of hunting ahead!

I was out scouting this past week since we’ll be in a completely new unit than the area we’ve drawn the past few years. We were able to spot two different bachelor groups during our time out. I was able to observe one group really well and all 3 bulls were in full velvet with growth still happening. The other group I didn’t get the greatest look at because we bumped them and they went running. BUT from what we could tell, it looks like most if not all of them no longer had velvet and their growth was done? Did my eyes deceive me? We didn’t get the greatest look but they were about 60 yards ahead of us and we were able to observe them for a good 10-15 seconds before they dipped out of sight. Not sure if this is as relevant but from what we could tell, the first group in velvet looked like they will be fineeee bulls once their growth is done. The other bachelor group seemed more like forkeys and smaller 5x5s. Appreciate any insight you guys can provide!

I’ve never hunted 21 but I wish you the best of luck in tagging out! Make sure you share your story after the hunt, I’d love to read it!

Wow what an awesome write up! What a year for you and the family. Really awesome that you got to chase so many Coues. Congratulations to both of your daughters on great shooting and tagging some stud bucks! Hopefully you and the wife tag out soon. Thanks for sharing your hunting stories! Can’t wait for the upcoming season

My wife and I were looking at the Bergara for her. We ended up going a different route (Franchi) but the Bergara was her second choice. Super solid feel and we’ve had friends say some great things about em

You never know…hopefully he’ll make his way back to the site. I find myself back on here reading up as I’m doing scouting for hunts later this year. Almost to the fall and can’t wait for hunting season to roll around again!

Unit 31 December Tag - Tips for Starting Out
AzRaised08 replied to noahwarren18's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Follow the starting points here as already mentioned. Once you’re in these areas, like wish2hunt said, start glassing and get a good sense for what is around. Focus on areas with small drainages and food. Never hunted 31 but WT are called grey ghosts for a reason. Be diligent in your glassing and you absolutely need a tripod to be effective. Please post about your hunting trip, we love it when a newcomer follows up with their hunting trip—even if it doesn’t end in success! Good luck 😃- 17 replies

I thought he was dead too but it’s cool he turned up still alive! I personally think it’s pretty near a jaguar could live in a desert like ours. Amazing how animals adapt to different climates
