That’s true but also how they keep the meat fresher looking longer.

Exactly right. Thank the government they poisoned from my baldy to the west fork camp ground in 1990. Due to over application of poison. Just so they could reintroduce native trout.

Yes Arizona ran a shop here locally for ten years. New owner had shops in Phoenix that I ordered and sent products too before I left. It was the same way up there. Go in a pawn shop and look at the ticket there filling out. That’s sent to local l e o. We’ve lost our butt on some deals. To the tune of thousands of dollars. -
Don’t get your point. Just pointing out not all the good old brands stay that way.

Got that information from the meat lab at the u of a here in Tucson. There f d a program trains a lot of the local butchers. Latest thing is nitrogen being pumped into the meat before being wrapped at the packing plant

Everyone is mentioning spots my dad and I have fished since the sixties. With all this social media mentioning the white mountains in particular spots not normally talked about there’s more pressure. When they re paved 273 they screwed up the big beaver dam at sheep’s crossing. Then poisoned it to reintroduce Apache trout. Which I found out this year the just started restocking since 2015. Due to disease in the brood stock. I had more people in places I go then I have in the last fifteen years. That’s including places that are a tow to three mile hike. Best thing is to go up during the middle of the week and hike in. But due to COVID-19 that didn’t even work this year. It was a zoo middle of April and still is up there. As a result I’ve moved my operations elsewhere.

When a gun shop such as the one I ran buys a used firearm you have to fill out a police report form kind of like a pawn ticket. This then gets sent to the local police department to see if it’s stolen. Along with this the gun has to be held for seven days I believe before it’s sold. We actually had a few come back stolen. We then had to return them to the owner and eat the money we paid for the firearms. -
Agree with outdoor writer on the order of quality meat. Costco has gone down in quality in Tucson and Safeway and Albertsons are just as high as Bashas here for meat and they don’t differentiate between a t bone or porterhouse steak. But boy when they put t bones on sell I stock up. Have them cut them 1.5 inches thick off a fresh uncut short loin that way I get four porterhouses out of the deal. Don’t shop at frys anymore there meat quality has gone down and there in the process of getting rid of union butchers.Plus there prices are high. In fact last Friday bought three porterhouses from Bashas for 5.97 a lb on sale t bones were 4.97 per lb. Could cut it with a fork. It was my treat to myself after four weeks of busting my butt in physical therapy to get my knee working again after knee replacement surgery. Best 24.00 bucks I spent.

If you live in Phoenix there’s a store that sells used and recycled restaurant equipment. My buddy was a salesman for them till he retired. My meat butcher here in Tucson also turned me on to them. I was looking for a meat grinder at the time. Mentioned holbart and first words out of his and the other three butchers was stay away. Wasn’t the same quality as before. There’s were thirty plus years old and going strong. Tried to buy them when they closed shop after fifty years but were sold to the above company already. He did mention another brand that was good but can’t remember the name but that store carries it also.

Slick trick standards or wasp boss bullet. Both shot great to eighty yards at 285 fps. Now use Zwick y Eskimo 110’s at 260 fps. Arrow weight is 465 g r s. Have to tune them but a excellent cut on contact traditional broadhead.

I’ve owned a ram truck since 2005. Traded first one a 05 1500 for a new 06 1500. Because I wanted a quad cab. It was the bighorn package. With that you get a gps 20 inch wheels better radio and overall trim package. If it’s a 4x4 it will also come with a engine, transmission, and transfer case skid plate. If you buy a 1500 it also comes with a better tow package, but order it with 3.92 gears it will tow much better. That’s what I had in my 06 with the 4.7l engine and it towed and off-road great. I traded it last year on a 05 Cummins with 262,000 on it and it was still running great. If you can get 18 inch wheels it will better off-road then 20 inch wheels.

Was up last weekend. It was a zoo. Reminded me of been up there on memorial weekend. Fished the streams water was still high and fast. Fishing was fair didn’t see a lot of people at big lake.

I follow the point blank method in regards to holdover. Tested by the same guy that wrote up the 270 for all those years. I zero to maximize the trajectory of the particular rifle I’m working on. I don’t shoot past 600 and it works for me quite well. After 400 I use the hash marks to adjust holdover, but I verify the hash marks at the range first thou.

Look at Ramshot magnum it’s all I use anymore. Only powder more stable is h1000, in my tests. By the way all I run are Barnes bullets shoot great and have harvested many animals with them.

I’ve worked on two proof barrels, wasn’t happy with either one. Load work didn’t go as well as I hoped it would. I’ll take a good steel barrel over a carbon barrel any day. Just my thoughts on it.

Favorite Elk Bullet? Average shot distance in AZ?
Jlreff replied to excaliber's topic in Elk Hunting
Had his leg tucked up at the shot covering his chest cavity. If I had been running my normal Barnes load it would have blown thru. It looked like pepper coating the chest cavity. The second bullet exploded a inch into the chest cavity with no exit. Lost over half the animal to bloodshot damage. -

That’s why I run Barnes bullets and will be trying out the hammers this year. Got tired of throwing out lots of good meat due to massive bloodshoting. Have ran Barnes for twenty years with great results. -

I run 15x56 s a waro h d’s also. All I run . Have not found a need for a spotter. Don’t need the extra weight in the pack. I just need to make sure it’s a legal animal. -
What about Nightforce.there supposed to be a decent scope. Plus they have the new n x-8 2.5-20x50 f f p.

WMR8 Winchester magnum rifle powder Lance?
Jlreff replied to Delw's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Have used this powder to fire from 308 Norma mag cases. Hot powder and very temp sensitive. Approach max loads with caution can get pressure spikes real quick. Especially as the ambient temperatures start to climb. But can get good velocities out of it in 300 mag. -
Had this same tag. Beat the storm in Thursday only to be snowed in. Almost lost the tent easy up was destroyed and had to leave my gear and home with my niece in tow. Forest service closed every access point in unit off. Then a dot shut down every highway in the area. Then to top it off my truck broke down with trailer in tow at red rock on the way to Tucson. Then on Sunday my buddy took me back up to get my gear and almost got stuck. Glad I was camped close to the 260. At this time the 300 rd and others were still closed. Just got my truck back yesterday from the diesel repair shop. Threw the number one injector. Luckily I have a warranty. But it still cost me almost 200 dollars. That’s the jest of my unit 4a elk hunt. Hopefully you and your son had better luck.
